Vampy burgundy creme comparisons

I had a little spare time yesterday and did a quick swatching session.

The first batch compares Essie Sole Mate, Chanel Vamp/Rouge Noir (my bottle has both names printed on its label), Revlon Vixen, CND Limited Edition, and China Glaze Pretty in Patent.

Sole Mate and Vamp are very close, except that SM is more purple and Vamp is more brown. Vixen and Pretty in Patent are very close, almost twins; both are redder than Vamp and SM and a shade or so lighter. Limited Edition is about the same tone as Vixen and PiP, but it’s a shade or so darker, a tiny bit plummier, and has very subtle “invisible” shimmer.

The second batch swatches compares IsaDora Midnight Red, Chanel Vamp/Rouge Noir (again, for better comparison across the two sets of photos), Essie Wicked, Orly Naughty, and L’Oréal Stroke of Midnight.

IsaDora Midnight Red and L’Oréal Stroke of Midnight are twinny, and if I recall correctly, Urban Decay Brick House is also very close to these. They’re deep, not-quite-blackened burgundy-reds. Wicked and Naughty are very close and I’d consider them twins. They’re more burgundy-toned and blackened. Vamp is a hair darker than Wicked and Naughty, and is clearly more of a browned red than a burgundy red. Next to the others, it looks positively brown.

So there you have it: my collection of nail polishes that are probably too close to justify owning all of them. Most of these differences are not noticeable unless you are in bright light. I’d have to say my favourites of the nine are Essie Sole Mate, Chanel Vamp/Rouge Noir, Essie Wicked/Orly Naughty, and CND Limited Edition.
