I only splurge on fancy lipsticks now and then, but when I found out that Chanel had recently reformulated their Rouge Coco Lip Colour (the full name is now Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour) and introduced some new shades, including one named Arthur, I got it immediately. Marketing, eh?
I can’t believe I still haven’t found a lipstick named for me (I have a NARS that comes close, but no cigar), but lo and behold, there is one for my little peanut. Chanel, however, named it after Cpt. Arthur “Boy” Capel, a muse of the legendary Coco Chanel. I imagine the Chanel Boy Bag was named for him, as well. He has been portrayed a few times in film, once by Timothy Dalton (I often get slaughtered for this, but he’s the best Bond after Craig, imo!).
Anyway, I would have picked up Arthur (440) even if it was a glittery neon purple, but thankfully for me, it’s a coral-toned red.
It’s a semi-sheer formula, which is easily built up to a stronger, more opaque red. It’s very vibrant and a wonderful option for summer. The lipstick feels fairly weightless, kind of like a lip balm, and I found it to be just slightly moisturizing. Staying power is very decent for a moisturizing formula, though not fantastic, but the color wears off evenly, making it very easy to reapply.
As for the color, it’s not the world’s most unique lipstick shade. My one complaint is that it leans more coral/orange on me and makes my teeth look a little yellower, which, as a coffee drinker, I don’t need any more help with! But, I love my corals, anyway. I suspect that on a cooler-toned person, Arthur would lean more pinkish. Either way, if you’re looking for a versatile, very clean coral red, I don’t think you would go wrong with choosing Arthur.
Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour retails for US$36 / CA$42 and is 0.12 oz / 3.5 g. It is made in France.
Chanel is a private company based in Paris, France.
Such a pretty coral red shade!

Fanshy! I’ve never owned a Chanel lippy – does it have any scent / taste?
Daniel Craig’s James Bond dwarfs all others for me. Casino Royale ftw!

Hey, this was in my spam box. No idea why 😦 Answered your later comment. God I love Daniel Craig as Bond! I don’t understand the legions of people who love Roger Moore. I mean, he seems nice and all, but he’s not Bond to me.

Ok I thought I was going mental because I swear I left a reply to this post already, at least I was somewhat consistent in my comments! lol

I feel you on the coffee-drinking yellow teeth front. but I can’t stop, it’s too good! XD Arthur is a very pretty color. so far I’ve been able to withstand the new Rouge Cocos, though.

So fanshy! Does it have any scent or taste? I always imagine Chanel lippies to smell like perfume…

I don’t think it has much of a taste, but it does have a faint “lipstick” smell. I always forget to mention this stuff because it typically doesn’t bother me. But no, I wouldn’t call it perfume-y!

The scent / taste used to bothers me a lot but I’m getting more tolerant, I suppose. I prefer MAC’s vanilla scent or Estee Lauder fig scent, but I have a HG lipstick from Elizabeth Arden (shocker, huh!) that’s straight up lipstick smell that you speak of… and I am learning to not dwell on it because the colour and formula are just amazing! The lipstick is Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick #17 Breathless and I honestly want to toss out all my other lipsticks and wear that for the rest of my life.

Hahaha! I feel like I have tested Breathless, or maybe I had it in a GWP or something? Eons ago. Time for a retest! I haven’t tried EA makeup in forever. 🙂 I like MAC’s vanilla, too, and I don’t mind the Lancôme/L’Oréal perfume-y rose scent.
