Julie G Nail Color in Damsel

JulieG — Damsel (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

JulieG isn’t a brand I’ve had the opportunity to try, since I don’t think they’re available in Canada. It was nice to receive it in my April Ipsy (referral link) Glam Bag, though I have discovered that it’s a pretty nice polish for the price point, and now I’m just disappointed that I can’t try more!

JulieG is an American drugstore brand that makes nail polish retailing for US$3.99, and if all their colors apply as well as Damsel did, I’d say they’re pretty top notch for that price.

Damsel, part of the core collection, is a bright, midtone fuchsia cream that has a warm enough tone that it is not unpleasant on me. This is about as Barbie as I’ll get!

The formula is nice and creamy and it applied quite evenly. I did three coats for the swatch, but really you could get away with two. The polish dries to a nice shine, too. I’m really pleased with it, and if I ever came across a JulieG display, I’d be filling my shopping basket with these cute cheapies.

JulieG Nail Color in Damsel, ingredients

JulieG Nail Color is US$3.99 and 0.35 US fl oz / 10 mL. It is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). The polish is made in the USA and the company is cruelty-free.

JulieG is made by Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics, an Oxford NC, USA-based company founded in 2005. Their website does ship internationally, though the cost may not be worth it for such inexpensive products.

  1. I’ve been wanting to try JulieG nail polishes for ages! JulieG is a YouTube guru that I’ve watched for ages and she’s a great down to earth person – I’m glad her nail polish line has taken off.
This shade is a bit bright for me but I’m glad to hear the formula is good. I’ve also heard the top coat in this range is good too. I might have to get someone to get these for me one day if they’re going to the US.

    • Haha, thanks for the heads up. I knew the name sounded familiar, but it kinda went with the “Jesse’s Girl” theme with a name + the G initial. I dunno, it didn’t click! Plus, I’m not a big YT watcher, so stuff like this passes me by 🙂 Hope the polish comes to Canada soon! We could use more quality drugstore brands over here.

      • Here is there ingredients and I cannot use any form of formaldehyde 😦
All of our polishes (both Jesse’s Girl and JulieG) are Big 3 Free. Our nail polishes are free of DBP, Toluene, and Formaldehyde – commonly referred to as the “Big 3”. Our polishes do contain formaldehyde resin, which is not the same as formaldehyde and is not considered one of the “Big 3”. It’s a common misconception that Formaldehyde Resin (actually listed as “Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin”) is the same thing as Formaldehyde, but it is not. While formaldehyde is an ingredient you may see used in some nail hardeners and nail treatments (which are products that we do not produce), tosylamide/formaldehyde resin is an ingredient that makes the polish tough and resilient (to help it keep from chipping easily). While the resin is manufactured from formaldehyde, once it becomes a resin the formaldehyde is chemically changed and is essentially no longer present. This ingredient shouldn’t be an issue unless you are someone who has a reaction to formaldehyde resin.
