I first heard of Starlooks when I received their Gem Eye Pencil in Ultra Orchid, a gorgeous shimmery purple, in one of my Ipsy (referral link) Glam Bags. I liked that product, so I was reasonably happy to see one of the brand’s lipglosses in my April Ipsy bag.
Starlooks promotes their products as being professional quality. The following is taken from their website:
“comparable to Makeup Forever [sic], Sephora, M.A.C, Chanel, Dior, and other department store brands”
I don’t think their packaging and branding is quite up to snuff, but I suppose we should mostly care about the actual products and how they perform, right?
They describe their Lip Gloss as:
A truly moisturizing, non-sticky formula available in 47 different shades. Tint ranges from sheer to opaque and finish ranges from shimmer to satin. This creamy, glassy, long-lasting gloss adds a glistening effect to any lip look.
The lip gloss I received is a mini 0.3 oz with a doe-foot applicator; the size of the full-sized version is not currently available on either the official site or Ipsy.
Cuddle is a super pretty coppery rose gold shimmer. I love it…in the tube. Even in my swatch, I love it. However, on my lips, I don’t like to layer on quite as much gloss to get that color. Plus, my lips are a darker color than my skin, so the very sheer color doesn’t show up well. This made me very sad.
The texture of the gloss is, despite the product copy, a little sticky. Nothing horrible, but it’s not a barely-there kind of gloss. It did spread thinly and neatly. The lip gloss has a scent but no flavor; I have had slightly congested sinuses for weeks now, so I can only say that I found the scent to be pleasantly pastry-ish.
The staying power of the lip gloss was fine, about what you’d expect for a slightly sticky gloss. It lasted for about three hours for me, until I had a drink and a snack.
I don’t think I’d bother to seek out more of these glosses. At the US$13 price tag for the full-sized product, I think I’d rather shell out a little more for MAC Lipglass, which I love.
Starlooks Satin Finish Lip Gloss is US$13.00. Starlooks state that their products are made in both Canada and China; the lip gloss sample I received was made in China.
The ingredients are: Bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, polybutene, mineral oil, propylaparaben, BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), silica, tridecyl trimelitate, may contain [mica, titanium dioxide (CI77891), iron oxide (CI77491, CI77499), red No. 6 Ba Lake (CI158502)]
Starlooks is based in Irvine CA, USA.
Good to know it’s nothing special and MAC is still the winner!

It is! But I don’t mind sticky. I just took issue with Starlooks saying their gloss wasn’t, when it was a bit 😀
I have an ooooold Smashbox lipgloss that is not sticky at all and it’s awesome. I have to check out their new ones to see if they compare as well!

I also take issue with drugstore / cheaper brands costing almost as much as MAC stuff. This lipgloss is made in China whereas MAC is either made in US or Canada. wtf.
