Collection: Hard Candy, Summer 2015, 20th Anniversary
This week, I’m reviewing the five Hard Candy 20th Anniversary Nail Colors I recently bought. The packaging for this collection is a throwback to the old school Hard Candy polish bottles, and it was the main reason I was keen to pick them up! The five I got are Claws Up!, Coconut, Mint, Scam (all re-releases from the original polishes), and Zombie (one of three new shades).
Today’s review is for Claws Up!, one of the five re-released shades in the collection. It’s a soft, neutral beige with subtle shimmer.
I’m not going to cover details about the bottle and brush here, since I’ve already talked about them in my first review for Coconut.
Claws Up! is a pretty standard beige. It has a taupe undertone and subtle, silvery shimmer that gives the final finish a pearly look. It’s nice, but not a polish I’m wowed by.
Application was reasonably smooth. It runs a little on the thin side, so two coats is just nearly opaque.
Hard Candy Nail Color retails for US$4.00 / CA$3.98 (I don’t understand, but I’m not complaining!). However, the regular cylindrical bottles contain 0.26 fl oz / 7.8 mL, while the 20th Anniversary square bottles contain 0.46 fl oz / 13.5 mL. It is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Hard Candy is cruelty-free and made in the USA.
Hard Candy LLC is currently owned by Falic Fashion Group, a subsidiary of Duty Free Americas, Inc. (FFG purchased the company from LVMH, who had bought the company in 1999.) Hard Candy is sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.
I thought I’d love this one but it’s quite a yawner. Something about the pearly shimmer doesn’t jive well with the beige colour. I do like that the ring on this bottle matches the polish exactly, unlike the other polishes from the anniversary collection – I wish it was a little bit more interesting shape like a star or I’ll even tolerate a heart – but a circle? Just as yawn-worthy as this shade itself! 😛

I love your treatise on the Hard Candy rings. 😀 A boring shape for a boring shade, I guess.
