Collection: Hard Candy, Summer 2015, 20th Anniversary
This week, I’m reviewing the five Hard Candy 20th Anniversary Nail Colors I recently bought. The packaging for this collection is a throwback to the old school Hard Candy polish bottles, and it was the main reason I was keen to pick them up! The five I got are Claws Up!, Coconut, Mint, Scam (all re-releases from the original polishes), and Zombie (one of three new shades).
Today’s final Hard Candy 20th Anniversary review is for Zombie, one of the three new shades in the collection. It’s a vampy, plummy, browned-burgundy shimmer.
I’m not going to cover details about the bottle and brush here, since I’ve already talked about them in my first review for Coconut.
I’m really happy that they put a vampy shade in this collection that is mostly full of pastels and brights. (The other two new shades are Girlie and Tangerini, both brights.) Zombie is a deep reddish plum shimmer with bronze undertones. I do wish it was a little heavier on the shimmer, but it’s pretty nonetheless.
The best thing about Zombie is that it is just about a One-Coat Wonder! I have a tendency to use thinner coats, so I ended up doing two coats for the swatch. With a single thicker coat, you can definitely be done with just one coat. This easily had the best formula of the five I tried this week. For $4, you can’t really go wrong with Zombie!
Hard Candy Nail Color retails for US$4.00 / CA$3.98 (I don’t understand, but I’m not complaining!). However, the regular cylindrical bottles contain 0.26 fl oz / 7.8 mL, while the 20th Anniversary square bottles contain 0.46 fl oz / 13.5 mL. It is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Hard Candy is cruelty-free and made in the USA.
Hard Candy LLC is currently owned by Falic Fashion Group, a subsidiary of Duty Free Americas, Inc. (FFG purchased the company from LVMH, who had bought the company in 1999.) Hard Candy is sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.
