Collection: Chanel Summer 2015, Mediterranée
Chanel’s Méditerranée collection for Summer 2015 consists of four luscious colors, but Lavanda was the one I’d been lusting after. When Canadian drugstore Shoppers Drug Mart recently ran a Spend Your Points Event, I was glad to hand over some of my accrued SDM Optimum Points and receive some Chanel polishes in return.
Lavanda is an deep, slightly muted violet cream that’s perhaps one or two shades short of vampy. It’s probably one of the classiest purple creams you’ll ever find in nail polish form! I’m going to freely admit that Chanel’s Le Vernis is not my favorite nail polish formula (I like Essie, Zoya, and Illamasqua best) but they really do nail—pun intended!—their seasonal colors. There isn’t a thing I’d change about this shade of royal purple.
Application was a bit uneven, so you will need three thick coats or four thin ones gets the polish looking excellent. I suspect part of the reason I don’t like Chanel’s application as much is the design of the brush. While I like its slim, rounded shape (like Essie’s), Chanel’s brush is too long and doesn’t give me as much control. I think if you swapped out Chanel’s brush for Essie’s (or to go a completely opposite direction, Dior’s paddle brush), I’d start liking the formula better. The pigmentation is incredible, though: no complaints there.
Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour retails for US$27 / CA$31 and is 0.4 US fl oz / 13 mL. The polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and is made in France.
Chanel is a private company based in Paris, France.
