Collection: Essie Summer 2012, Bikini So Teeny
I was inspired to get this springy/summery polish after The Beautified Blogger posted her swatch recently!
Essie calls Bikini So Teeny (800) “a sparkling, cornflower blue”. It’s certainly a very pretty, soft shade of pastel cornflower, but the “sparkling” part is overstating it! There is some fine silver sparkle in this polish, but it’s really subtle, a bit sparse, and can be difficult to see.
I have a preference for thinner coats of polish, and it took me four coats (!) to get fully even and coverage. My thinner coats were giving me bald spots, which are really aggravating. I’m sure that if you did thicker coats, three would be just fine.
Once the polish is on, though, it’s super pretty! I’d like a little more obvious sparkle, but it’s fine if I pretend it’s basically a cream finish.
Essie Nail Polish retails for US$8.50 / CA$9.99–$10.99 and is 0.46 US fl oz / 13.5 mL. The polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). It is made in the USA.
Essie Cosmetics, founded in 1981, is based in Westfield NJ, USA. In 2010, Essie was acquired by the L’Oréal Group.
What, four coats?! That’s a little excessive, Essie, no thank you! It’s a really gorgeous colour though, and most light blues aren’t that flattering, but this one looks great with your skin tone.

Oh man, 4 coater is a no-go for me. I opted out of Mint Candy Apple due to your warning of the formula. I love the look but can’t bring myself to going through the pain (and potentially tears). I wonder if nail technicians curse these types of polish colours when their clients choose them for their mani / pedi (“dammit not Bikini So Teeny AGAIN” and then some swearing in Vietnamese).

Oh I know! Ah well. I am pretty used to many coats for pastels, so I’m OK with it. LOL.
