Collection: OPI 2012 Spring/Summer, Holland
Every time I buy a newer OPI, I am slightly disappointed. Honestly, it has been a while since I’ve been wowed by the brand that I used to love so much, pre-reformulation and pre-Pro-Wide brush. To be fair, I have gotten more used to the Pro-Wide brush, and even though I still don’t like it (it’s just too wide and I have small nails), it doesn’t aggravate me like it did in the early years.
My most recently acquired OPI is the inappropriately named Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI (well, I only just said I didn’t!) from the Holland collection. Now, I usually do like OPI’s ridiculous, punny names, but why is there an apostrophe before the “Ya”? WHY?! Also, while I’m being nitpicky, Holland is not technically the term for the country known as the Netherlands. Unless, of course, OPI intended to have the collection refer to specifically the western part of the Netherlands.
But, I know you’re only here for the nail polish, not grammar and geography, so I’ll get on with it! Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI (NL H55) is a medium-to-medium-deep plummy purple with fine, golden bronze shimmer. Better, right?
Unfortunately, the shimmer is so subtle that while you’re indoors, it’s not terribly obvious at all. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a cream finish. Outdoors, in the bright sun, the color is a bit lighter and you do see some shimmer, but it’s still all a bit subdued.
The shimmer in sunlight looks somewhere in between the shimmer you see here in the bottle (loads at the right angle) and the shimmer on the nail (hardly any!).
Overall, this is a nice, muted sort of plum, but it’s not really doing much for me. I really wish that the shimmer was amped up by 100%.
The formula was OK. It applied evenly, but I did need three coats for full opacity.
OPI Nail Lacquer retails for about US$9.50 / higher in CA$ (I purchased mine discounted at Winners for CA$7.99) and is 0.5 US fl oz / 15 mL. OPI nail polishes are free of toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and camphor, and are made in the USA.
OPI has been owned by global beauty company Coty Inc. since 2010.
I guess they did the apostrophe before the “Y” because it’s like Don’t Cha so they wanted to connect the 2 words somehow? I don’t know why I’m trying to explain / defend a nail polish name… lol. 😛
Man! This was a major disappointment swatched on the nails! In the bottle it looked like it could have been a neat subtle duochromey purple / gold… but if I wanted a purple creme, I would have bought a PURPLE CREME.

Haha! Doncha is a word, now, apparently! 😉
The shimmer is definitely a more noticeable in sun, but it’s not duochrome-y, at all! OPI missed a trick here, I think. Could ‘A been so cool. 😛

The colour isn’t bold and catchy at all, I’m afraid.. I love OPI too especially the first few batches. I love their Nein Nein Ok Fine Grey. I think I’ve collected their many shades of grey before because of the infamous book which I never read. Lol ✽_✽ ❤︎ <a href=”http://www.laineyloveslife.wordpress.com” target=”_blank”>laineyloveslife

Nein Nein sounds good! I’ll have to check it out, thanks! I have My Silk Tie from that Grey collection, but the book isn’t my bag! 😀

I feel so torn whether or not I like this one…but I think I’d opt out for a proper creme finish berry-plummy polish
