Questions from the Original Starlight Blogger Award

1. If you could meet anyone from throughout history. Who and why?
Someone influential in the future. President of the US in 200 yrs or so, perhaps. If that position even exists anymore!

2. What is your favourite book and why?
I don’t have a single favorite, but A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving, remains one of many.

3. Who is your favourite fiction character from any medium and why?
Calvin. Oh to careen through life (well, perpetual youth) with imagination, wit, unflagging enthusiasm and zero filter.Calvin & Hobbes, ignorance is bliss, monarchistsCalvin & Hobbes, snowman, define well-adjusted

Questions from Styled With Joy

1. What are your weekend plans?
I need to catch up on work! Plus, housecleaning, as we have guests coming the week after. I do want to make use of one of our last remaining “nice weather” weekends this season, however, so hopefully we’ll get outside and attend some street festivals, too.

2. What’s your favorite blog post to read?
I always like to read reviews! Doesn’t matter if they’re for makeup, movies, or microwaves (well, if I’m in the market for a microwave).

3. Where do you pull inspo from when writing your blog posts?
I mostly do reviews, so not much inspiration is required! I do like to throw in little side references, though, usually from movies, TV, or books.

Dragon's Loyalty Award

7 Interesting Things About Me

Since we’re talking dragons, one of my guilty pleasure movies is Reign of Fire. It’s a post-apocalyptic movie about dragons which stars Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey, Izabella Scorupco, Gerard Butler, and Alexander Siddig. The director, Rob Bowman, is best known for directing many episodes of The X-Files and Castle. The effects look great and it’s generally well-acted for a B-movie (I mean, that’s a pretty stunning cast). Plus, totally fun.

I only know one card trick, but it is a bit involved and requires a bit of table space. I know it slightly differently from the way it’s described here—and I use the variant at the bottom, which always amazes! LOL. It’s kind of a dumb trick once you know how it works. Ah well, I have no sleight of hand ability, so I gotta resort to this.

My favorite cereal as a kid was Grape Nuts. My favorite cereal as an adult is Froot Loops, and I rarely allow myself to eat it. Depressing, no?

My favorite children’s book is Many Moons by James Thurber.

I like watching horror movies, even though I shouldn’t, because I’m a humongous wuss. The most recent was Oculus, which kept me up several hours past my bedtime. (Enjoyed the psychological stuff in the first third, and the well-handled flashback sequences in the middle. Ending was annoying.) I know better than to watch Asian horror flicks, though. If I did watch them, I’d never sleep again! For someone who doesn’t believe in ghosts, they really do scare the bejeezus out of me!

I make pouches of assorted Halloween candy for the trick-or-treaters, and I still have some of the extras from last Halloween in my desk. There is one mini cola flavored Chupa Chup, one roll of Rockets (Smarties in the US…Non-US Smarties are wonderful!), and two packs of AirHeads in Blue Raspberry and Watermelon. Obviously, I already ate all the really good stuff (Junior Mints, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Tootsie Rolls in regular and fruit flavors, and Cadbury “Screme” Eggs).

My first ever album was Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl on cassette. I bought Spellbound later, too. That was disappointing.

  1. I think I want to check out your favourite children’s book! When asked this question, we usually always get the answer The Little Prince.:)

My very first album was Gloria Estefan’s Locomotion which I shared with my sister. We were kids who loved dancing to 1234! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for the nomination, lovely! I already did this award but I’ll check out the other bloggers you nominated ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Congrats on the double awards!
I get so freaked out by any movies involving demons or the devil. I just can’t watch them! My imagination runs wild… ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Um you still have Halloween candy? What kind of slacker candy eater are you?
Those Calvin and Hobbes comics are awesome – as a kid, I didn’t always understand them but I appreciate them much more as an adult.

    • Oh, I am the same way. I’m not religious but damn if exorcism movies don’t scare the pants off me. Didn’t stop me from watching The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Deliver Us From Evil, of course. shudders

I’m not a big candy eater, to be honest. Not much of a sweet tooth. Chips, on the other hand, I inhale if they’re in the vicinity.

I don’t think I started reading Calvin & Hobbes until I was in high school, so I didn’t have much trouble with it. I think as a child, I probably read more Peanuts & Garfield! ๐Ÿ˜€ I remember not understanding Outland / Bloom County until I was much older, though. I still don’t get Sally Forth and Prince Valiant. What were those all about?

  3. And I saw a cassette tape! ๐Ÿ˜œ
Like Lainey, I’m more of a Gloria E. and who would forget the Miami Sound Machine! Oh yeah, I still remember. ๐Ÿ˜
I’m not that kind who easily gets scared, my mind has this system that automatically feeds my brain, “This ain’t real” but the thing is it picks the image and stays there. Worst is I got to randomly remember it at wee hours of the night.
    Try watching Thai horror.
