Collection: China Glaze 2015 Summer, Road Trip
Today’s polish is not the sort of thing I usually go for, but it was somehow on my radar over the last couple of months—it was released in China Glaze’s most recent summer collection—and as soon as I saw it in store, I grabbed it without hesitation.
Pack Lightly (82385) is a peachy-pink yogurt that is mostly a cream finish, but with superfine, subtle golden coral shimmer that gives it a soft-focus pearly look. It sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?
It actually reminded me a lot of an old OPI, 2006’s My Daddy’s the King!, which I loved to pieces, except the formula was kind of awful. I haven’t actually pulled out MDtK! in a very long time, so I’m probably misremembering the exact shade, but it had a similar yogurt pearl finish.
Well, it turns out that Pack Lightly is also very disappointing. I kid you not: it needs four coats. It’s not even that sheer. It’s just streaky.
And even at four coats, I’m still not 100% happy with its ever-so-slightly uneven coverage! I actually removed and re-applied a few times, just to see if I was doing something wrong, but nope: each time required four coats. See that bubble on my middle finger? I didn’t even care by the end. Something about pearly pastels, I guess?
It also took a very long time to dry, though this may partially have been down to the number of coats I used.
Pack Lightly’s one saving grace is its golden shimmer. In most light, the shimmer is not that noticeable, and you just see a pretty, soft gold hazy glow. Under bright halogen light, you can actually see the shimmer a lot more strongly, and it’s so pretty. I don’t have any sunlight today (thanks, Canada) so I’m not sure if bright sunlight would give a similar appearance.
You can’t see the shimmer too clearly in my swatch, but you can probably sense that glowiness.
So, while I love the color and the appearance under very specific lighting, I can’t recommend this product at all. It’s such a huge disappointment!
