Throwback Thursday! Inglot — 853 (Nail Enamel) Swatch & Review

Brand: Inglot

Today’s Throwback Thursday polish comes from Inglot, a Polish brand that opened its first international store in Montréal, Canada back in 2006. A few others followed in Ottawa and Toronto. Those stores were short-lived, but last year, Inglot re-launched both freestanding stores and an online store in Canada.

Back in ’06 or ’07, DH worked near the first Toronto location of Inglot, so he picked up a nail polish for me! It remains the only Inglot polish I own (I’ve since visited the current freestanding store at Dundas Square in Toronto, but only picked up a lipstick).

853 is a deep, vampy purple with very subtle purple and fuchsia shimmer in a glossy, slightly jelly finish.

The shimmer is so subtle that it takes sunlight to catch a glimpse of the fine purple and pink sparkle. It really mostly just looks like a glossy cream with a bare hint of pearly shimmer.

The formula is a little on the thin side, so I liked three coats best for full opacity. The slightly jelly finish means that it can be a bit hard to get it completely even, but overall it looks pretty good.

I’m not sure I’m in love with the formula, so it may be a while before I decide to try another Inglot polish. Judging from their Canadian website, this shade is discontinued, but the polishes still look like they’re in the same bottles. My bottle’s brush is very Essie-like: slim and slightly flattened, but I can’t say whether the current bottles have the same style brush.

Inglot Nail Enamel is 0.51 fl oz / 15 mL and currently retails for US$11 / CA$13. (I feel like it was slightly cheaper when DH bought it.) My bottle is made in Poland. The current formulation is free of toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and camphor.

Inglot Cosmetics was founded over 30 years ago in Przemyśl, Poland, where its headquarters remain today. The brand is currently sold in over 60 countries worldwide.

  1. Inglot had a store in Toronto in ’06? Seriously? Where was it located? I only knew of the Montreal location which is now closed…
I like the bottle style. I’m not sure if I’m in any hurry to try more Inglot polishes… but maybe if they had a sale. I am interested in one of the blue / green flakies.
