Collection: MAC Winter 2004 (?)
I’ve had this polish since 2007 or so, but mine is in the newer Nail Lacquer formulation, which is when MAC started using the tall, sloped cylinder bottle design that they still use in the revamped Studio Nail Lacquer line.
The shade, Lady Minx, was actually (probably, unless it was a repromote) introduced back around Winter 2004:
From Advice Sisters:
M·A·C Cosmetics is known for their cutting-edge colors that are the darlings of fashionistas. If you want to try something a bit out of the box without going way out, Nail Lacquer $9.00 in Cream formula “Molasses” will coat your fingers and toes with super-glossy brown polish that looks nearly black. “Lady Minx” is a deep, perfect party red. For the less avant-garde, “Fluid” is a deep, coppery frost” and “Air De Pink” a barely-there peachy-pink sheer.
Their description—possibly MAC’s own—of Lady Minx is a bit off, however! I wouldn’t describe it as a red at all! (Unless the original Lady Minx was a different color from the later edition.)
Lady Minx is an intense plum-toned fuchsia cream. It is a cool-toned shade, but I feel that there’s just enough purple in there to look flattering even on my yellow-toned skin.

I wish I could say the formula was as awesome as the shade, but MAC’s nail polish isn’t fantastic now, and it was worse before! At least it has gotten progressively better, but still…
Lady Minx applies quite smoothly, but despite appearing quite pigmented, it is not entirely opaque with two coats. You can definitely get away with it, but I did three for the swatch and still wished there was a teeny bit more coverage. It depends on your preference, but I like rich cream shades like this to look plush and perfectly opaque. At least it dries to a glossy shine!
MAC Nail Lacquer was 10 mL / 0.34 US fl oz. It was made in the USA.
MAC was founded in Toronto, ON, Canada in 1984 by Frank Toskan, Frank Angelo, and chemist Vic Casale. The company’s products were initially aimed at professional makeup artists; the company now sells products to consumers worldwide. From 1996–98, it was acquired by the Estée Lauder Companies, headquartered in New York, NY, USA. MAC was initially a cruelty-free company; it now states that it is cruelty-free except when required by law.
Lovely shade.

I guess plum is a mix of red and purple? That’s whey they described it as red? Who knows! Yeah I like dark cream shades to be opaque…. unless it’s a jelly. I want to try more MAC polishes but that fat handle really bothers me.

Sure, but who calls a plum “red”?! Weirdos. Oh the handle is actually pretty nice – it’s rubberized, too. It does annoy me a little how top-heavy it is, I guess. Easy to topple.

I like the thin handles a la Essie. 😛

Even though MAC polishes aren’t the best, this is still a beautiful shade! I love wearing plummy berry colors.

It is a real shame the formula isn’t a bit better!

MAC is good for some more unique, pretty shades! Too bad the formula isn’t a bit better.

That does put me off, the shade can be unique but if it chips it will just irritate me.

I love this color! I bought it back in 04 when I was working at Macy’s and I actually JUST threw the bottle out the other day. I had put some thinner in it but the color didn’t last like other polishes. I was searching the web to find a swatch bc I think i may have found a similar color (at least it’s pretty close to how I remember it haha.) Loved the polish so much and love this post 😊
