Luxe Box (Canada) — Spring 2016

So, I forgot to cancel my Luxe Box (referral link) subscription late last year, and this arrived in the mail yesterday.

Luxe Box is a seasonal box that costs $26 per quarter, though you can get a slight discount for signing up for more boxes at a time. I signed up with the semi-annual option: two boxes for $25 each. The annual option gives you four boxes for $24 each. Shipping is included, at least for the Canadian options.

You receive 7–8 items in each curated Luxe Box (I got 5 full-sized items and 2 trial-sizes this season). I did not take up the $10 “Beauty Surprise” option, even though I was pleased with what I got the one time I did.

What I Received

All prices in CA$, unless otherwise noted.

  • BIODERMA Sébium AI Correcteur 2-in-1 Tinted Skin Perfecting Care for Acne Prone Skin in Light/Clair (30 mL, full size) [MSRP is I think ~US$24.95]
  • JELLY PONG PONG Softening Shower & Bath Gel in Lychee Gel (30 mL, full size) [MSRP US$15.95]

  • MORGAN TAYLOR Professional Nail Lacquer in Eye Candy (15 mL, full size) [MSRP $15.83—holy heck! What?!]
  • POP BEAUTY Kajal Pen in Inky Purple (0.9 g, full size) [MSRP US$10]
  • SCHICK Hydro Silk Razor (1 reusable razor & 1 cartridge) [MSRP $12.64]

Random Additional Items

  • BENEFIT coupon for 3500 Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Bonus Points when purchasing The POREfessional (if you shop online at beautyBOUTIQUE, you can use the code NOPORES, which expires April 16, 2016)
  • SCHICK coupon for $5 off any Hydro Silk refills

Here’s a quick rundown of what I think about each item (sorry, I don’t have pics of each individual item as my camera’s acting up again; guess I need to fiddle with it some more pics added!):

Quick Rundown

BENEFIT The POREfessional Primer
(3 mL, sample) [MSRP $37 for 22 mL]
I don’t really use primer, so this is kind of meh for me. BeneFit stuff seems excessively pricy to me, and I’ve rarely liked any of the few BeneFit items I’ve tried.

BIODERMA Sébium AI Correcteur 2-in-1 Tinted Skin Perfecting Care for Acne Prone Skin in Light/Clair
(30 mL, full size) [MSRP is I think ~US$24.95]
I’m nearly five months pregnant now and that nice “pregnancy glow” I got last time around is totally missing! I believe it has to do with not getting anywhere near as much sleep this time, due to having to watch my little peanut. The first time, I slept like a hibernating bear. So yeah, I could use a little help on the acne front, and look forward to giving this product a try! I hope the shade Light/Clair is not too light for me.

JELLY PONG PONG Softening Shower & Bath Gel in Lychee Gel
(30 mL, full size) [MSRP US$15.95]
I received a Jelly Pong Pong item once from a Birchbox but have yet to try it. Since this one is a shower gel and smells like one of my favorite fruits, lychee, I’m gonna try it ASAP! I still can’t believe this is actually the full-sized shower gel, though. It’s pretty wee (and pricy) at 30 mL.

MASKERAIDE All Eyes On Me Hydrating Eye Gel Patches
(4.7 g, 1 single-use pair of eye gels) [MSRP $25/box of 4 pairs]
Lack of sleep means I need to use these babies soon.

MORGAN TAYLOR Professional Nail Lacquer in Eye Candy
(15 mL, full size) [MSRP $15.83—holy heck! What?!]
Coincidentally, I ordered my first ever Morgan Taylor polish late last year, and reviewed it not long ago. It was nice enough, but would I pay almost $16 for it? Hell no. I found mine at Nail Supplies for US$3.25, but they have hardly any stock left. I’m glad to receive this one, though: the dark lavender shade looks pretty for spring.

POP BEAUTY Kajal Pen in Inky Purple
(0.9 g, full size) [MSRP US$10]
I don’t think I’ve tried any Pop Beauty before, so this purple eyeliner will be fun to use. I’m just so happy it’s not black! I tend to use every deep eyeliner color except for black.

SCHICK Hydro Silk Razor
(1 reusable razor & 1 cartridge) [MSRP $12.64]
I was actually just thinking last month that I should buy a reusable razor handle, because I currently use Gillette Daisy razors, which are disposable, but generate quite a bit of waste. I’ve delayed this for years already, mostly because it takes me forever to go through a 16-pk of Daisies, so it seems like less waste for me. I wasn’t really planning on going with Schick, but I certainly don’t mind giving this a try. Saved me $12 for now!

My Verdict

Hmm, once again, I’m undecided. I feel that if I end up liking the Bioderma tinted moisturizer, this will have been well worth the $25. The other stuff is fun but I would not have bought any of them myself—though the razor is, as I mentioned, a product I would have purchased, just from a different brand.

We’ll see whether or not I “forget” to cancel my Summer Luxe Box…

  1. Oooh you finally mentioned your pregnancy in a post! Unless I missed it elsewhere… Of course congrats again! 😊
Funny, the item I’m liking the most from this box is the Jelly Pong Pong lychee shower gel, not the makeup! 😋
The nail polish shade is pretty but $16 price tag is a joke.

    • Heh, yeah I think this is the first time I mentioned it, thanks 😉

Isn’t the Jelly Pong Pong packaging cute as heck?! I think that’s why I really dig it. Hahahaha what a sucka.

I don’t understand the Morgan Taylor pricing at all…

  2. I received my Luxe Box yesterday and I received a Model Co Bb cream which is really the only thing I’m interested in. At least you got those eye pads – I got a sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer which was super lame. So disappointed this time!

  3. I also got my first luxe box. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I got some no-name brands of pink lipgloss, lip crayons, and black eyeliner (of which are I’ll never use) and eye gel pads, handcream and the razor… and the same nail polish. with NO product card in a plain nylon bag…. CANCLED immediately after. I’d rather spend 25 dollars on what I want and get a medium to high end product.
