This week, I’ll be posting about some little hauls I’ve made recently, rather than swatches and reviews. Here’s the haulage post schedule for this week:
- Monday: Essie, Illamasqua, Smashbox, W7
- Tuesday: Zoya
- Wednesday: Perfume (Ellen Tracy, Jennifer Lopez)
- Throwback Thursday: MAC
- Friday: Essence, L’Oréal, OPI
Today’s perfume haul is my last one this week from Winners (the Canadian TJ Maxx). Early each year, Winners runs a red tag clearance on older stock, and I snagged two scents at super-cheap prices.
Ellen Tracy makes one of my favorite perfumes (Tracy), and on the strength of that plus online rave reviews, I also bought Bronze, which remains untried in my stash. I’d been seeing a flanker, Exotic Bronze, for pretty cheap at Winners, but I didn’t want to buy it until I’d given the original a spin. However, the new red tagged price of CA$8 swayed me and now I have two untried Bronzes in my collection.
Also, I got a wonderful surprise after looking up Exotic Bronze’s notes on Fragrantica (where it seems to get mixed reviews). It turns out that one of its major notes is lychee! (See: Jelly Pong Pong’s “lychee” shower gel.) Wooooohooooo! Other notes include raspberry, peach, water lily and white tea. That combination sounds so pretty, and I can’t wait to try it now!
The bottle’s a bit odd, though. There’s something of a ’70s sci-fi movie prop about it.
I’m no celebuscent snob, and while I don’t seek them out, I’m happy to try ones that get good reviews (I do draw the line with the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, and similarly annoying celebrities, though!). Jennifer Lopez—whose career-best remains 1998’s Out of Sight, for me—has a huge line of perfumes, and since her first, Glow, never did much for me, I consequently never got into any of her perfumes. I had heard about a less popular one, Deseo, being quite nice and different, so when I saw it clearanced for CA$11, I picked it up.
Its main notes seem to be bamboo, bergamot, mimosa, orange blossom, yuzu, patchouli, sandalwood, and musk. Strangely, on first sniff, it smells like a dry, beachy coconut to me! Deseo will certainly be fun to wear this summer. I think the organic faceted bottle is pretty stunning, too.
Have you gotten any good fragrance deals lately?
I have tried Jennifer Lopez Live perfume before and it smells unbelievably good.

That Ellen Tracy perfume bottle is hideous! But the JLo one is fab! I do wonder how much of a factor perfume bottle design play into purchasing decisions!
On paper, both of these scents sound lovely! Lychee yes! Coconut yes yes yes!
I recently bought Bobbi Brown Beach and it’s VERY interesting – truly a mix between Coppertone sunscreen and Off bug repellent. But it somehow just works. 😋
