Ipsy — June 2016 Glam Bag “Rebel Rebel”

Whew, finally a proper makeup post! My June 2016 Ipsy (referral link) bag arrived a while ago—obviously, it’s a week into July already!—but I haven’t been able to get this posted until now.

Honestly, I know this product retails for US$14, but there’s nothing about this brand that makes me think of it as mid-tier. The name and logo are also a little downmarket, to me. The tube packaging is plain but reasonably nice—however, the plastic shrinkwrap around it was such a pain to remove! It was actually stuck to the bottom of the tube, and even now there’s a small bit of sharp plastic still stuck there that I can’t be bothered to remove. By now, I’m pretty bored of getting Be a Bombshell products from Ipsy (I also purchased one of their eyeshadow quads last year, to some disappointment even though I got it at a cheap price). [Made in China.]

I’ve been wanting to try ColourPop for ages, and actually just placed my first order (eyeshadows and lipstick, natch!) around the same time this Ipsy bag arrived! This is a coppery, rose gold-ish eyeliner, which looks fantastic and I don’t have another eyeliner color like it. The alternative shade Ipsters got was Swerve, which is just plain black, so I think I lucked out! I am slightly disappointed, though, that the pencil’s cap doesn’t fit over the end of the pencil, though! Why on earth would it be designed that way? Yeah, yeah, not a dealbreaker in the least. Can’t wait to try this one! [Made in USA.]

I’ve been striving to take a little better care of my hair, lately. Normally, I get irritated at receiving hair products in my subscription boxes, but this looks interesting and it’s meant for my hair type—dry. [Made in USA.]

Rodial Stem Cell Cleansing Cream (sample)

Pretty expensive stuff for a cleanser made in China. I can always use another facial cleanser, but I’m forever skeptical when products make dumb claims like plant stem cells in a cleanser are going to make your skin more youthful. Erm, those stem cells are dead, and that’s not how they work, anyway. That said, I do love Andalou Naturals’ shampoo that claims to youthify your hair with fruit stem cells. Pretty sure it’s not the dead stem cells, though… [Made in China.]

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lounge (deluxe sample)

I was delighted to get this in the shade Lounge, because I’d already received the other Ipsy option, Fireball, in an Urban Decay order I previously made! Lounge is one of those iridescent, multi-dimensional colors that I go gaga for. It’s a really hefty size for a sample, too. Just not sure which palette I’m going to stick these samples in. The Ipsy makeup bag isn’t really doing it for me this month, but no biggie.

Some other Ipsy items this month that I would have liked to try:

  • Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink
  • Seraphine Botanicals Happy Hibiscus Blush
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Duo in Block Party & Geo-Mint-Ric
  • Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser
  • Jouer Highlighter in Tiare

I’m still waiting to get more nail polish from Ipsy, from brands they haven’t already sent me! C’mon, guys, it’s in the profile!

  1. I equate the brand Be a Bombshell with Hard Candy at Walmart!
Uh, makeup product design pet peeve #62: caps that can’t be put on the end of the pencil. The designers are just laughing at us, hoping we’d lose the cap, that’s why!
What, the Rodial cleanser is made in China?! You know, so far I’ve not come across many skincare made in China. This is astounding!
Oooh I want to try ANYTHING by Jouer.

    • Oh man, now you’re making me miss the original Hard Candy! The Wally World stuff just doesn’t cut it.

I was a little shocked to see the pricy Rodial brand made in China. WTF. But I guess everything is made in China, these days, even pricier goods.
