L’Oréal — New Money (Colour Riche Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Spring 2013, Trend Setter

Pantone just announced that Color of the Year 2017 will be Greenery (web color #88B04B), a bright, medium-toned yellow-green! I totally love that kind of color, and am going to be happy to rock it all year long—especially since I wasn’t all that keen on 2016’s double bill of Serenity and Rose Quartz (baby blue and baby pink).

butter LONDON has a collaboration out with Pantone, so you can actually buy the exact color in nail polish form. I don’t have it, though, so I rummaged through my nearby Helmers to see if I could grab a similar pea green shade for today’s swatch.

(Some polishes I’ve swatched in the past that fall into this yellow-green category are: Misa Gravitron, OPI My Gecko Does Tricks, Zoya Midori, and Zoya Tilda. I used to have a Misa called Green with Envy, as well, but I believe it’s closer to this L’Oréal—possibly even more yellow—than it is to Greenery.)

New Money (108) by L’Oréal is the closest I could find with a cursory search, so here it is. I’ve been jonesing for it for some time, and finally picked it up in a L’Oréal haul back in late spring. It’s rather a lighter shade of green than Greenery is, and definitely more yellow, but it’s kind of in a similar range. The color is right on the edge of being pastel, and it’s quite bright.

The formula is semi-sheer, and requires two thick coats or three thin ones for opaque coverage. These kinds of just-about-pastel colors, especially in yellow-y shades, tend to be tricky, so I was reasonably pleased with this formula. It did have a slightly gluey feel to it, but the slim brush with a rounded paddle end performed well.

This shade is quite unique, especially in the drugstore, so I do recommend it if this is the kind of color you like.

As a parting note: unless you’re a Seattle Sounders fan, please wish Toronto FC luck in the MLS Cup Final on Saturday night! 😀 It’ll actually be played on home turf, at BMO Field. Wish I could be there!

Colour Riche Nail Color is 0.39 US fl oz / 11.7 mL and retails for about US$4.99 / CA$6.99. The polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde, camphor, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). It is made in the USA.

L’Oréal was founded in 1909 and is the largest cosmetics company in the world. It is based in Clichy (a suburb of Paris), France. Its first product was a hair dye called Auréale, which presumably led to the development of the company’s present name.

  1. So does this mean there’s no Sephora + Pantone this year?
Unsurprisingly I do not own anything like this colour in my collection. NONE.
Yeah I’m rooting for the Toronto FC! I hope it’s not too cold that night.
