Non-Oscar Red Carpet Looks 2017: Yays & Nays

The Oscars cap off the end of awards season in Hollywood. I posted my favorite and least-favorite dresses from last night’s ceremony, but here are some of my highlights from other ceremonies that took place earlier this year.

Golden Globes: Drew Barrymore (How To Be Single, ex. producer) in Monique L’Huillier.
Golden Globes: Kristen Bell (The Good Place) in Jenny Packham.
BAFTAs: Emily Blunt (The Girl On the Train) in Alexander McQueen.

Golden Globes: Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) in Vivienne Westwood.
Golden Globes: Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) in Ralph Lauren.
Golden Globes: Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply) in Zuhair Murad.
I just learned that she is the daughter of Phil Collins. Mind blown. Nobody better tell me that Donald Glover is Danny’s son, now.
BAFTAs: Viola Davis (Fences, Suicide Squad) in Jenny Packham.
Golden Globes: Naomie Harris (Moonlight) in Armani Privé.
Ah, she should’ve worn this to the Oscars!
Golden Globes: Heidi Klum (Project Runway, producer) in J. Mendel.
Golden Globes: Brie Larson (Free Fire) in Rodarte.
Perfect! Old school glam.
Golden Globes: Judith Light (Transparent) in Balmain.
Normally, I don’t think I’d like this dress. But Angela Bower is totally killing it, isn’t she?
Golden Globes: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) in Edition by Georges Chakra.
Golden Globes: Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures, Moonlight) in Armani Privé.
Golden Globes: Mandy Moore (This Is Us) in Naeem Khan.
Golden Globes: Ruth Negga (Loving) in Louis Vuitton.
Golden Globes: Thandie Newton (Westworld) in Monse.
Golden Globes: Issa Rae (Insecure) in Christian Siriano.
Golden Globes: Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin, Deepwater Horizon) in Naeem Khan.
Golden Globes: Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) in Zuhair Murad.
SAG: Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) in Tadashi Shoji.
Golden Globes: Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen) in Vera Wang.
BAFTAs: Emma Stone (La La Land) in Chanel.
Sparkly pants under her dress!
Golden Globes: Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) in Altuzarra.

SAG: Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory).
Golden Globes: Jessica Biel in Elie Saab.
SAG: Sophia Bush (Chicago Med) in Marchesa.
Oh, this looks fine. Nothing to see here…OMG the eyes she’s a zombie.
Golden Globes: Naomi Campbell (Empire, Zoolander 2) in Versace.
Looks like one of my high school paper sculpture projects.
Golden Globes: Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloane) in Prada.
She’s too sophisticated for this dress.
Golden Globes: Anna Chlumsky (Veep) in Roland Mouret.
This fits her so poorly. I feel like she could have run to the mall and found something more suitable and flattering.
SAG: Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) in Elie Saab.
Lady Mary, say it ain’t so!
Golden Globes: Claire Foy (The Queen) in Erdem.
It’s a spangly nightgown.
SAG: Claire Foy (The Queen) in Valentino.
I get that this is her look, but…ehhh.
Golden Globes: Gal Gadot (Batman vs Superman) in Mugler.
I know she’s pregnant, here, and she is looking stunning! But the dress looks like it belongs in an ice skating competition.
SAG: Naomie Harris (Moonlight) in Lanvin.
SAG: Salma Hayek in Gucci.
She looks like a marshmallow peep.
Golden Globes: Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) in Gucci.
Just ugh.
Golden Globes: Anna Kendrick (The Accountant, Trolls) in Vionnet.
Well, if you don’t like it, why are you wearing it?
Golden Globes: Nicole Kidman (Lion) in Alexander McQueen.
Ethereal, but also a little creepy.
SAG: Nicole Kidman (Lion) in Gucci.
I will never wish for her to stray from her skin-colored column dresses, ever again.
Golden Globes: Blake Lively (Café Society) in Versace.
I wonder when they decided to add gilded pockets to this gown.
SAG: Natalie Portman (Jackie) in Dior.
Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to wear a tablecloth.
Golden Globes: Emily Ratajkowski in Reem Acra.
So cheap.
Golden Globes: Keri Russell (The Americans) in J. Mendel.
Golden Globes: Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) in Viktor & Rolf.
Either you go full Beetlejuice, or not at all.
Golden Globes: Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Beyond) in Gucci.
BAFTAs: Emma Stone (La La Land) in Valentino.
Cute, but too juvenile.
Golden Globes: Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) in Louis Vuitton.
Golden Globes: Carrie Underwood in Iris Serban.
Golden Globes: Kerry Washington (Scandal) in Dolce & Gabbana
I like some things about this dress, but mostly it makes me think of Joan of Arc.
Golden Globes: Michelle Williams (Manchester By the Sea) in Louis Vuitton.
So costume-y.
SAG: Ariel Winter (Modern Family) in Mikael D.

  1. Re: Lily Collins – the SO just had this revelation not long ago! He didn’t believe me. It just goes to show – celebrity begets more celebrity…
You’re right, that golden number on Naomie Harris would have been perfect for the Oscars – she should have worn the white one for GG.
My absolute favourite from your list is the red dress on Brie Larson at GG. Her look last night was so dated – I hated her hair too. Ugh stylists, do your jobs!
No comment on her dress, but ahhh Judith Light! ❤
I need you to find me a photo of Jessica Biel where she’s dressed nicely for an award show. Does that exist?
Hated that outfit on Nicole Kidman at GG too. Most of those off the shoulder dresses at GG were not proportioned right (see Michelle Williams). And LMAO her parrot dress – omg!
I think I saw Emily Ratajkowski’s uterus in that dress. She obviously doesn’t care.

    • Jessica Biel, 2014 Oscars:
Finally, a decent one! I mean, a bit snoozy. But pretty good.
Everything else I see is either terrible, or almost good but she screwed it up with bad hair or a goose coming out from the bottom of the dress (Cannes 2013):

  2. The gown on the 2014 is a lovely but the colour is so drab on her. And her HAIR – what the heck!
The goose at the bottom of her gown HAHAHA.
Girl needs to wear navy or deep green, maybe even maroon. Enough with these drab colours.
