Last fall, I noticed my local Shoppers Drug Mart holding a charity sale, in which they had pre-bundled goodie bags of higher-end skincare samples for $10. I can’t remember which women’s charity it was for, but considering it was October, it may have been for Breast Cancer research.
Of course I picked up one bag (I’ve reviewed the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser)!
Despite the fact that I hated this cleanser, I thought the charity bag idea was a dandy one and I was delighted to see that Shoppers has stepped it up!
A week ago, I noticed more charity bags at the same store, but only in the beauty department. (Previously they were at the regular checkout.) The goody bags now costed $5 and contained an assortment of full-sized makeup and nail polish from the mass market lines like Revlon, L’Oréal, Maybelline, and in-house brand Quo, instead of skincare samples from the likes of Nuxe and La Roche-Posay.
I didn’t get a chance to grab one then, but yesterday I hit up that Shoppers again, and they had packaged up some new bags that contained foundations and lipsticks.
The SA said the charity was Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Nice to see a local cause!
Here’s the goody bag I got:
- L’Oréal Colour Riche Lipstick in Jennifer’s Nude (370)
- L’Oréal True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in W2 Light Ivory
- Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Blushing Bud (705)
- Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in 50 Creamy Natural
I looked up the retail values of the products on Well.ca, which can be a touch higher, and on Walmart.ca, which are a touch lower. I didn’t have time to go looking for them in the actual drugstore, and I find that Shoppers’ prices can vary by location, as well. All prices are in CA$, and Well.ca/Walmart.ca.
- L’Oréal Colour Riche Lipstick [$9.34 / $8.96]
- L’Oréal True Match Super-Blendable Makeup [$18.79 / $15.96]
- Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick [$8.49 / $7.96]
- Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation [$18.49 / $11.96]
So, taking the averages from each store, the retail value of the $5 charity bag was $49.98.
Not too shabby…
I have a feeling the L’Oréal foundation is a tad too light for me—I love this foundation and usually use W3. The Maybelline looks too tan and cool-toned. (Maybe I should mix them together, ha!) But if I even like one of the lipsticks, $5 was a decent deal. If I end up using 2–3 items, then it’s a total steal!
Keep an eye out for these at your local Shoppers Drug Mart!
