Julep — Marisol (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Julep 2017 Summer, June “Bask In the Heat”

Here’s the other Julep polish I chose in my first Maven Box.

The Spanish name Marisol is a shortening of Maria de la Soledad (Mary of Solitude), referencing the Virgin Mary. In English, I see a combination of marigold (derived from Mary, as well) and sun (Latin sol), so it definitely gives me a misconception of golden yellow. Presumably, the polish namers at Julep thought so, too, because Julep describes Marisol as a “Golden Amber Metallic.”

Julep’s brush is very nice: a little wide, a little paddle-shaped, and really well-sized for my smaller nails.

The square black cap actually removes to reveal a small, ridged cap underneath. I find this a bit difficult to remove at times (I couldn’t remove it at all for Elsie), and I don’t actually find it bad to use the square cap, so I won’t be bothering with the smaller cap in the future.

You’ll also notice that the top of the square cap has a “Swatch Me!” sticker on it. I guess Julep’s bottles nestle together very neatly, so a swatch on top would be very handy for identifying shades from a top view. I’d personally rather the “Swatch Me!” had the color name on it, instead…the bottom sticker has the color name, of course.

Marisol is a honeyed amber glitter with a metallic sheen. I really love the color, since I find that a lot of glittery polishes in this color family can be too brassy gold or too browned.

The glitter is on the finer side, and two coats gives semi-opaque coverage. This would be a fine glitter topper, though I’m happy to wear it on its own.

  1. Wow, this is such a gorgeous fiery shade! I bet it’d look amazing over a dark cream.
That’s a smart little feature with the “Swatch Me!” sticker. You know a nail polish hoarder came up with that…

  2. That is actually quite pretty on its own, normally I do not like the sheer look but Marisol looks perfect at two coats! It would be super pretty over a dark blue or green, especially for the fall. Or over a burnt orange… :]
