Collection: The Face Shop 2017 Summer, Marvel
Over the summer, The Face Shop released a collection of makeup and nail polish in collaboration with Marvel! The characters included in the nail polish were Black Widow, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Thor. Captain America’s logo was used for some of the makeup items (they were super cool-looking—kind of wish I’d picked up one of the palettes!). You can see the collection here.
I hadn’t tried The Face Shop’s nail polishes before, or any of their makeup at all, so I didn’t feel like going whole hog and ordering all four Trendy Nails Duos. I picked up two: Spidy (Spider-Man) and Thunder Storm (Thor). No idea why they didn’t just go with the original character names. And Spidey’s misspelled, to boot!
Anyway. The packaging is nice, and makes for collectible items:
Each Duo comes with two small bottles of polish.
Thunder Storm (02) comes with a magenta and green flake topper (1) and a soft metallic gold (2).
Purple and green seems better suited to the Hulk, but for whatever reason they went with Thor, instead. I’d have gone with a silver and red flake for the Norse
god—seems more obvious, no?
The brush is really nice, thick, and flexible, considering each bottle is so small. I had no real trouble applying the polish, though I’d have preferred a paddle shape.
Here’s the gold first, since I’ll be layering the glitter polish over it. It’s a very wearable shade of gold, and not overly metallic. It’s actually probably more frosty, with just minor streaking issues. Otherwise, it is pretty good to go with two coats.
The glitter polish is a bit sheerer than I’d like, so I did use about 3–4 coats to spread enough flakes over the nail. Otherwise it was fairly easy to use.
Each bottle contains 4 mL, and for each Duo, I paid $7.37 including shipping (on sale). It’s a decent price for collectible packaging, and I found the quality of the polish to be perfectly fine. Flaky glitter isn’t really my thing, but I can see this purple and green combo being really fun for Halloween!
The Face Shop Trendy Nails Duo contains 2 × 4 mL and retails for around US$6–7. The formula is free from toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP).
The Face Shop was launched in Seoul, South Korea, in 2003. Today it is one of the largest cosmetics companies in that country, and has hundreds of stores worldwide. In 2009–2010, the company was acquired by LG (yes, the home appliance maker).
