Milani Baked Blushes in Bella Bellini & Rosa Romantica

Milani — Bella Bellini & Rosa Romantica (Baked Blush) Swatch & Review, Plus NARS Orgasm & Deep Throat

Earlier this year (or possibly late last year), Milani introduced two new shades of their highly popular Baked Blushes: Bella Bellini and Rosa Romantica.

I noticed them in a Rexall last month (Canada often gets new drugstore releases fairly late) and have been stalking the weekly sales ever since. Last week, they finally had Milani products on Buy One, Get One 50% off so they came to $6.29 each—yeah, Rexall’s sales can be pretty meh—and I had to run to a larger Rexall to snag both shades. Ideally, I’d have waited for a sale at where Baked Blushes are a smidge cheaper, but they didn’t have the new shades at all.

But anyway, I am so happy I got them because they’re utterly gorgeous!

They have the same lovely, soft, highly-pigmented texture of all the other Baked Blushes (see my Megapost here! I think I have all of them except for Red Vino, which I can never find and may have to purchase in the US).

Bella Bellini (12) is a stunner. Milani calls it a “rose gold”, though I think it’s a lot more intense pink than rose gold usually inspires. It’s an azalea pink loaded with golden shimmer: very NARS Orgasm, except with even more shimmer.

Below, I have a swatch comparison of the following blushes:

  • Milani Baked Blush in Bella Bellini (12)
  • Milani Baked Blush in Corallina (08)
  • Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso (05)
  • NARS Blush in Deep Throat
  • NARS Blush in Orgasm

Haulage Week (& Throwback Thursday)! MAC

This week, I’ll be posting about some little hauls I’ve made recently, rather than swatches and reviews. Here’s the haulage post schedule for this week:

  • Monday: Essie, Illamasqua, Smashbox, W7
  • Tuesday: Zoya
  • Wednesday: Perfume (Ellen Tracy, Jennifer Lopez)
  • Throwback Thursday: MAC
  • Friday: Essence, L’Oréal, OPI

Last week, MAC decided to drop their prices on Pro Palette Eye Shadow refill pans (they used to be CA$12, and now they’re CA$8), so I picked up four that had been on my wishlist for some time.

Pardon some of the slightly out-of-focus photos; I should be getting my new camera lens soon!

I got Soft Brown, Nocturnelle, Concrete, and Bamboo, another Large Duo Pro Palette, and an Eyeshadow x15 Insert, as well as a free sample of Pro Eye Makeup Remover (6 mL):

Essie Nail Polish in Shall We Chalet?, swatch

Essie — Shall We Chalet? (Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Essie Winter 2015, Virgin Snow

Shall We Chalet? (943) is described by Essie as a “seductive ruby”. It’s a midtoned red cream with a hint of a jelly to its formula. The red itself is fairly neutral, with perhaps a slight lean to the cool side. The shade is bright, though I would not call it vibrant.

It is very, very close to an older, classic Essie, Fishnet Stockings (which I’ll post for Throwback Thursday, is a slightly more intense shade.

In my usual lightbox photo, you can’t really tell a difference (Fishnet Stockings is on my thumb! Have you ever seen my thumb before?!):

They look more different in the bottle:

Hard Candy Nail Color, 20th Anniversary Collection (Mint, Zombie, Claws Up!, Coconut, Scam))

Haulage! Hard Candy 20th Anniversary Collection & Comparison with Older Bottles

Collection: Hard Candy, Summer 2015, 20th Anniversary

Wal-Mart isn’t someplace I shop at very often. I’m not a fan of their business practices, and anyway, the nearest location is not really easy for me to get to these days. But of course, the nail polish fanatic in me just had to make a trip over to see if I could get my grubby hands on Hard Candy‘s 20th Anniversary Collection. (Hard Candy makeup is available online on Wal-Mart’s US and Canadian websites, but not this limited edition collection.)

Back in the 1990s, Hard Candy was priced like a mid-to-high end brand; for nail polish, it was positively expensive for a college student! I picked up a few of their polishes here and there via sales, eBay, and swapping. They were awesome colors, even if the formula was not actually super fantastic. Plus, they came with cute little color-coordinated rings, and Alicia Silverstone wore it, and Hard Candy was a pretty big deal.

Fast forward to the 10s and Hard Candy is now exclusively sold at Wal-Mart. Whaaaa?

To be fair, I never thought the Hard Candy makeup I tried (some eyeshadows and lip stuff) were especially good quality. It was all funky colors, glitter, cool packaging, and hype. So perhaps they have done well to re-position themselves as a low-end, mass-market brand appealing to teens.

Once they made the move to Wal-Mart, the entire line was revamped. The nail polish is currently packaged in cheap-looking little cylinders. Very boring.

But, earlier this year, Hard Candy celebrated their 20th Anniversary and dutifully released a collection of 8 polishes packaged in their original square bottles! Retailing for $4! WITH the cool little rings! And 5 of the colors are from the original collection! As a 90s girl, I say AAAAAAAAH!

So now I’m kicking myself for waiting until now to get over to Wally World. Luckily, they still had the display up, and the rings, which are (not very well-)sealed to the bottle, were all still attached. I was able to get five colors, but not Sky, which made Hard Candy hugely popular when it was worn by Alicia Silverstone on The Late Show with David Letterman. 😥

Blush Comparison: Illamasqua Naked Rose vs. Milani Romantic Rose

Blush Comparison: Illamasqua Naked Rose vs. Milani Romantic Rose

This is just a quick post for Stashmatters, who wanted to know how Illamasqua Powder Blush in Naked Rose compares with Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose.

In the pan, they do look a little dupe-y, with Romantic Rose appearing a bit deeper. However, when swatched, you can see that, at least on my warm skintone, Romantic Rose isn’t really darker, but it is warmer. Naked Rose skews blue-pink when compared directly with Romantic Rose, which by comparison looks a tad peachy-pink.

I have not actually tried Romantic Rose yet, but Naked Rose is wonderful and one of my faves.

HTH! 🙂

Givenchy Le Rouge Lip Color in Framboise Velours

Givenchy — Framboise Velours (Le Rouge Lip Color) Swatch & Review

From my earlier review of NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera:

I was on a plummy/berry lipstick kick over the last year, and simultaneously bought NARS Vera and Givenchy Le Rouge in Framboise Velours. They turned out to be nearly the same lipstick color. I have to do a little more research, next time!

I slightly prefer the Audacious Lipstick over this Le Rouge, partly because Vera suits me a bit better due to its warmer tone, but also because I feel the Audacious formula is slightly superior.

NARS — Vera (Audacious Lipstick) Swatch & Review

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera

Last fall, NARS launched a new line of lipsticks, Audacious, priced a little higher than the regular NARS lipsticks. I picked up Vera from Sephora, and if all the shades perform the way Vera does, then Audacious Lipsticks are well worth the price hike.

I was on a plummy/berry lipstick kick over the last year, and simultaneously bought NARS Vera and Givenchy Le Rouge in Framboise Velours. They turned out to be nearly the same lipstick color. I have to do a little more research, next time! I feel that I slightly prefer Vera, so I’m reviewing it first.
