TIFF 2017: Red Carpet Roundup

It occurred to me that I had a red carpet roundup opportunity right in my own backyard last week with the Toronto International Film Festival!

I didn’t spot any stars around, but I don’t usually hang out at the trendy spots, either. I mean, Angelina Jolie’s not going to swing by my local grocery store to pick up a mesh bag of avocados.

As with yesterday’s Emmys roundup, I’m starting off with my favorites:

Top 7 TIFF 2017 Looks
(in alphabetical order)

Halle Berry at the Kings premiere

This is perfect on someone like Halle—is that a hint of nipslip, though?

• • • • •

Jessica Chastain at the Molly’s Game premiere

Elegant, and the stardust sparkles are a pretty touch.

• • • • •

Bella Heathcote at the Professor Marston & The Wonder Women premiere

I wish she’d done simpler shoes with this, but I’m still loving it.

Emmy Awards 2017 Red Carpet roundup

Emmy Awards 2017: Red Carpet Roundup

I didn’t manage to catch the Emmys this year and, honestly, I rarely ever do. I think part of the reason is that they continuously ignore a lot of shows I think are fantastic. I can rattle off many recent examples: Hannibal, Justified, Black Sails, Community, Orphan Black, Legion, and until this year, The Americans…but the most egregious snub of all-time is probably The Wire!

Well, at least a few of my favorites got a lot of love this year (The Handmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things, Westworld), and even The Americans picked up a few nominations in what was possibly their least exciting season.

In any case, I did manage to check out the red carpet looks after the fact and here are my very inconsequential judgments.

We’ll start with my favorites!

Top 10 Emmy 2017 Looks

Ellie Kemper in Jenny Packham

I love this dress on its own, but it gets a boost with
a dazzling Ellie Kemper. This is a fabulous color on a redhead.

Rashida Jones in J. Mendel

Lovely. There’s a little bit of the zig zag girl illusion going on in the middle.

The Blogger Recognition Award 2: Game of Snubs

Last month, I was nominated for another Blogger Recognition Award by a most hilarious blogger, Diversion3000. She’s not the typical blogger I follow (i.e., she doesn’t review nail polish and lipstick), but I’ve giggled and snickered at enough of her posts that I’ve become a follower of this engaging 8th grader. Thank you for the nomination, D3! (God, 8th grade was such a long time ago. strokes beard)

Blogger Recognition Award Rules

  1. Write a post explaining why you started blogging along with a few tips.
  2. Nominate some of your fellow bloggers.
  3. Comment on their blogs to let them know you’ve nominated them.

My Answers

I’ve already responded to one of these here.

My Nominees

The Beauty Blogger Award 4: The Blogger From U.N.C.L.E.

In August, fellow nail polish fan Mirror the Love nominated me for a Beauty Blogger Award! She’s based in Ireland and her blog is focused on cruelty-free and eco-friendly products. Her writing is really wonderful and she covers a range of beauty and lifestyle topics. Please visit her blog if you haven’t already!

I’m really flattered and delighted to answer her 10 questions today.

Mirror the Love’s Questions

Any blogging regrets?
Going on “hiatus” for several years is the big one.

Biggest beauty trend regret?
I have more of a tendency to not follow beauty trends, so it’s probably more like a regret that I didn’t follow one of the good ones!

One product you think everyone should have?
The perfect moisturizer for your skin type.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra Comfortable Face Cream, Day, for Dry & Sensitive Skin
Not a Holy Grail product, but I like this a lot: Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra Comfortable Face Cream, Day, for Dry & Sensitive Skin.

Liebster Award

Liebster Award 2: Toe In the Mail

I’ve been double-nominated for another Liebster Award!

I think Jenni is probably the youngest blogger I’m following. She’s 13 but you wouldn’t necessarily know it from the way she writes. She’s a breath of fresh air, and I’m looking forward to more posts from her!

My fine blogging buddy Chubbychicsdiary recently nominated me, as well. She’s a wonderfully positive person and this always comes through on her blog!

Thanks so much to both of them for thinking of my blog, and please go and visit them, if you haven’t already!

Questions from Jenni

what are some of your hobbies?
I’m a huge movie/TV buff, and I collect nail polish.

The Big Lebowski movie poster
John Goodman, Jeff Bridges, and Tara Reid’s green pedicure in The Big Lebowski‘s movie poster.

what’s the best part about blogging?
Getting a bit of writing done, and discovering others’ blogs!

best part of summer so far?
It’ll be over, soon! The tail end has gotten way too hot for my liking, and I cannot wait for fall weather to return. Of course, we tend to jump straight from hot summer weather into cold winter weather here, with about a week or two of nice fall weather in between. It’s barely enough for my favorite season!

Blogger Recognition Award

Last month, I was nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by one of my favorite bloggers, Katie at Plus+ Beauty. I am really flattered—thank you, Katie!

Blogger Recognition Award Rules

  1. Write a post explaining why you started blogging along with a few tips.
  2. Nominate some of your fellow bloggers.
  3. Comment on their blogs to let them know you’ve nominated them.

My Answers

I actually started my blog back in 2008, but let’s be honest—I was pretty half-assed about it! I always think back now and regret that I hadn’t put more effort into it, but I guess life gets in the way sometimes. I’m now at a stage in my life where, despite the fact that I’m definitely busier than I was several years ago, I now have the drive to get my blog posts out on a regular basis, and I’m enjoying it tremendously. It’s so much fun to interact with other bloggers and gab about the things that we are passionate about. There’s also so much pleasure to be taken from accomplishing something every day, even if it’s just something as simple as publishing a little blog post.
