Happy National Handbag Day! (October 10, 2018)

It’s the 6th National Handbag Day!

I actually haven’t acquired any new handbags for some time, nor do I have any seriously on my wishlist. So, to mark the occasion on this blog, I’ll do a quick roundup of 10 bags in my collection that I need to wear more often.

Adrienne Vittadini

Lenox Drawstring Pouch in Silver

I bought this ages ago, and I’m not sure why I rarely use it, since it is actually extremely comfortable to wear and holds a good amount! The leather is soft and subtly metallic. Aaah, I need to dig it out now!

Badgley Mischka

Jill Crossbody in Black

The main reason I don’t wear this as much is that the strap is a bit too long. I need to just go get an extra hole or two punched into the strap.

Chloé

Marcie Medium Satchel in Tan

My second-favorite bag of all-time, and yet, I don’t wear it as often as I should. Honestly, it is heavy and that is why I use it infrequently. Note to self: work out more so you can take Marcie out! Chloé has actually recently released a slightly smaller version of the Marcie which is just perfect for me. Maybe next year…

National Fragrance Day: 20 Favorite Bottle Designs in My Perfume Collection

It’s National Fragrance Day! To celebrate, I’ve compiled a list of favorite perfume bottles in my collection. I’ve previously done a list of perfumes I want just for the bottles, so I thought this would be a fun one to do, as well.

I’m not wearing any of these scents today, though. Test driving ’90s classic Tommy Girl (which comes in a perfectly serviceable bottle, but it’s certainly not one of my favorites).

ANNICK GOUTAL — Heure Exquise & Les Nuits d’Hadrien

Many of Annick Goutal’s fragrances come in this signature bottle and tagged with a ribbon and a card. The style is old-fashioned and very beautiful. The glass bottle’s ribbing is reminiscent of gathered tulle.

My Top 10 Blind (Unsniffed) Perfume Buys

A few people commented on Tuesday’s post about my penchant for buying fragrances unsniffed, so I thought I’d do a roundup of the successes and failures of this habit of mine. Now, while I do tend to buy unsniffed, I do not tend to buy unresearched, so my hit-to-miss ratio is actually pretty good.

Also, I tend not to buy unsniffed if I can sample the fragrance in person, or, failing that, obtain a sample online (Lucky Scent and The Perfumed Court were my go-tos when I was doing more sample-buying). Some perfume houses also do their own samples, and I’ve gotten some that way (Ava Luxe—or at least she used to, Czech & Speake, Grossmith, Les Parfums des Rosine).

Without further ado, here are my 10 favorite fragrances that I have ever bought unsniffed:

Badgley Mischka edp
Badgley Mischka — Badgley Mischka. This is an intense, jammy fruit blend—really gourmand and rich. It almost reaches the point where the fruit starts to seem overripe and on the verge of fermenting. I’ve smelled some similar fragrances and hated them, but this one just works for me. It’s not for everyone, but I love it on a cold winter day. The bottle is very luxe in heavy, faceted glass. I found it a few winters back at Winners.Read More »

Haulage! @ Winners (April 7, 2015)

This haul does include a nail polish, so I think I’m within my rights to post it! Heehee.

I have a Winners (TJ Maxx/Marshalls in the US, and TK Maxx in the UK & Ireland) very near to where I live, so it can be quite difficult to avoid going there a lot.

What I found today (not what I bought!):

  • A mini red Alexander McQueen shoulder bag that I saw there last week, too. They want something like $1,300 for it. Eep!
  • NARS on clearance. I saw Coup de Coeur lipgloss for about $14, but I am always leery of buying lipgloss at Winners since it may have been opened and contaminated by other shoppers. Also, they had a few Multiples, and Space Odyssey nail lacquer for $13 or so, but I am not paying that much for silver glitter.
  • Some cute Badgley Mischka wallets, some with bows, some quilted, and some with floral prints on saffiano leather. They were all continental zips like this one, but I don’t like that style of wallet for myself. If the floral wallet was a turnlock, like this one (yes, I know the one in the pic is a handbag!), I’d have been sorely tempted @ $79.99! Not that I need a new wallet.
