The Face Shop x Marvel Comics collection, Summer 2017

New Release: The Face Shop — Marvel Collection (Summer 2017)

Collection: The Face Shop 2017 Summer, Marvel

The Face Shop has released a new collaboration with Marvel Comics!

(Sadly, in related news, Stan Lee’s wife Joan just passed away at the age of 93. The Lees had been married for 69 years.)

The collection is flashy and fun, with a couple of skincare products targeted at guys, as well. The prices are in USD and taken from Cosmetic Love (referral link), where the collection is currently 10% off, and worldwide shipping is free.

  • Trendy Nails Duo in 4 sets: 01 (Iron Man), 02 (Thor), 03 (Spider-Man), 04 (Black Widow)
  • Anti Darkening Cushion in 4 shades: V201, N201, V203, N203 ($21.06)
  • Matte Touch Lipstick in 5 shades: PK04, PK05, RD05, RD06, OR02 ($13.13)
  • Mono Pop Eyes in 2 (9x) eyeshadow palettes: Blue & Red ($21.06)
  • Single Shadow Jelly in 4 shades: WH01, CR01, RD01, BR01 ($6.89)
  • Ink Gel Pencil Liner in 4 shades: Black, Brown, Red, Blue ($9.29)
  • 2 in 1 Curling Mascara in 4 shades: Black, Brown, Red, Blue ($14.99)
  • The Fresh for Men Hydrating Fluid ($20.06)
  • The Fresh for Men Leports Sun SPF50+ PA+++ ($14.15)
  • The Fresh for Men Sun BB Cream SPF50+ PA+++ ($14.15)

The packaging is crazy good for this collection! I’ve already splurged on two of the nail polish duos—Thor and Spider-Man—and I was quite tempted by the palettes and lipsticks, too.

Lots of pics follow (via The Face Shop)!

Happy Shopping!

Haulage! Korean Shops (And New Canadian Shipping Problems)

I’ve been getting a little obsessed with the state of my skin lately, and while it’s been super fun ordering Deciem products (items from The Ordinary, Hylamide, and NIOD lines are now in my possession!), this also meant that I hit up the online Korean beauty shops, too.

Little did I know that with my most recent Jolse order, I snuck in just before a Canadian shipping issue!

In the past, I pretty much stuck to Cosmetic Love (referral link):

  • The site is super easy to navigate, and generally I don’t have any issues with it. I personally find it nicer to look at than some of the more popular Korean beauty sites. The photos also tend to be slightly better.
  • Brand and product selection seem good to me, though there have been a couple brands I’ve been vaguely interested in and had to look for elsewhere.
  • CS is good, though I’ve never had to do more than get a quick response about a minor issue.
  • Prices are a bit higher than some other sites, but shipping is always free so I like not having to tally up the final cost. I really hate when the shipping charge differs depending on the size of your order (is it by weight? by price? gah!) and then I have to shift products in and out of my cart to get the max stuff for my money. The price is less of an issue to me since I just shop their sales, anyway. With free shipping, I can order, like, $20 worth of stuff during a sale and not have to think about spending $100+ to get free/cheaper shipping elsewhere.
  • Delivery has never been a problem for me. Yes, it takes a few weeks, and maybe a bit longer, but that’s not the store’s fault. They always ship very promptly and it’s Canadian customs that’s the hold-up. Luckily, I’ve never gotten dinged by customs, but I keep my Korean orders to around US$40 max. (Technically, orders totalling CA$20 or less are duty-exempt.)
  • They give a useful amount of samples—though it’s usually just handfuls of those single-use pouches of Tony Moly Tomatox Magic Massage Pack and Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum. I don’t think I will ever need to buy those two products.

But last year, I finally branched out a bit and ordered one test product from Jolse via Amazon (some Innisfree sheet masks, which I haven’t even bothered to use because shortly afterward, I decided I’m not really a fan of sheet masks).

Innisfree It's Real Facial Sheet Masks (15 pc)

Innisfree It’s Real Facial Sheet Masks (15 pc) (US$19.08)

Then last month, I placed a trial order from Jolse proper (and I forgot to use the $3 sign-up discount, gah!):

  • COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence (US$16)
  • Holika Holika gudetama LAZY&JOY Ceramide Capsule Cream (US$18.68)
  • Holika Holika Naked Face Illuminating Powder (US$11.88)

They sent a lot of different samples, which is awesome, but on the other hand, it’s a little useless to test a skincare product with just a single one-use sample. Cosmetic Love, by comparison, send about 10 of a product sample, but I almost always get the same two products so it’s not great that way, either.

Here are the samples I received:

Haulage! Drugstores & Cosmetic Love (Oct 2016 & Feb–Mar 2017)

Finally, everyone in the household is on the road to recovery! I managed to stay relatively illness-free, except for once when I think I might have given myself food poisoning and had an upset stomach for a night. We were all so overwhelmed over the last week and a half that my husband actually had to remind me that we forgot about our 17th wedding anniversary over the weekend.

I should really get my computer to remind me about stuff like this.

So, we celebrated last night with some dinner delivered and half a movie (The Nice Guys, if you’re interested—and that’s how we have to roll nowadays, early to bed). Plus, we’ll add a li’l anniversary money to our fun budgets!

Speaking of fun budgets, here’s some stuff I hauled over the last couple of months from drugstores. And I’m including some stuff I got from Cosmetic Love late last year, but totally forgot about under my desk.

All prices are what I paid, not necessarily the MSRP.

Luxe Box (Canada) — Summer 2016

I just canceled my Luxe Box (referral link) subscription. It wasn’t a terribly hard decision to make, apart from the fact that I was sad to not be able to continue supporting a Canadian beauty box! That now makes it both Topbox and Luxe Box that I have unsubscribed from—both are operated by Topbox, the Ipsy-equivalent.

Today, I’ll show you what I got in my Summer 2016 Luxe Box, and give you the reasons I decided to discontinue this service.

Luxe Box is a seasonal box that costs $26 per quarter, though you can get a slight discount for signing up for more boxes at a time. I signed up with the semi-annual option: two boxes for $25 each. The annual option gives you four boxes for $24 each. Shipping is included, at least for the Canadian options.

You receive 7–8 items in each curated Luxe Box (I got 5 full-sized items and 2 trial-sizes this season). I did not take up the $10 “Beauty Surprise” option, even though I was pleased with what I got the one time I did.

What I Received

All prices in CA$, unless otherwise noted. Also, I didn’t receive my product card or any additional coupons with this quarter’s Luxe Box. The outer box it was packed in was unsealed, so I don’t know whether they just fell out, or if the card(s) were just never packed in the first place. This means I don’t have access to full information about all the products I received. (Incidentally, Ipsy’s website is great in that you can see all the details of all the products you’ve ever received from them, plus links to each product’s official website. Luxe Box’s website is totally useless in this regard. You can’t even see what you got this quarter, let alone your purchase history! As someone who worked in website design, I can’t bring myself to support their hopelessly useless website any longer.)

Luxe Box

  • AMIKA Perk Up Dry Shampoo with Sea Buckthorn Berry (0.75 oz / 21.3 g, sample) [MSRP US$9.00 for 1 oz, or US$24 for 5.3 oz; sample works out to ~US$6.75]
  • BAREFOOT VENUS Lip Bliss Ultra-Repairing Lip Balm in Spearmint (8 g, full size) [MSRP US$7.50]
  • HARVEY PRINCE Body Cream in Sincerely (15 mL, sample) [MSRP US$6.50, based on the 50 mL fragrance + body cream set they have on their website]
  • MIRABELLA Pearls & Pastels Eyeshadow Pigment in Refreshmint (4.7 g, 1 single-use pair of eye gels) [MSRP $25/box of 4 pairs]
  • MORGAN TAYLOR Professional Nail Lacquer in I’m the Good Witch (15 mL, full size) [MSRP US$9]
  • MORGAN TAYLOR Professional Nail Lacquer in Nautically Inclined (15 mL, full size) [MSRP US$9]
  • NOVEX Brazilian Keratin Extra Deep Hair Care Cream (3.5 oz / 100 mL, sample) [MSRP US$6.99 for 7.4 oz, or US$16.99 for 34 oz; sample works out to ~US$3.31]
  • pūr~lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream, not sure which shade but probably Medium? (10 mL, travel size) [MSRP US$10 for 10 mL, or US$32 for 40 mL]

Random Additional Items

  • Nada this quarter. Don’t know if they forgot it, if it fell out of the box, or there just aren’t any this time.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I think about each item:

Quick Rundown

AMIKA Perk Up Dry Shampoo with Sea Buckthorn Berry
(8 g, full size) [MSRP US$7.50]

Guess I can use a travel-sized dry shampoo. I’m not generally happy getting hair products from my subscription boxes, though, and it’s listed that way in my profiles. The packaging is super cute, however!

Topbox July 2015

Topbox (Canada) — July 2015

My second Topbox arrived yesterday, and I had high hopes because I’ve recently cancelled my Ipsy subscription, and I don’t want to be left with no subscription boxes at all, haha!

Luckily, it turned out to be a pretty decent box, and leaves me looking forward to future boxes. One great thing about the Canada-based Topbox is that it only costs CA$12, so after Ontario tax, it comes to CA$13.56. Since the Canadian dollar has been falling against the US dollar, Ipsy and Birchbox now cost now costs Canadians over CA$19! [2015-08-05: I was corrected by Natalie in the comments! Birchbox Canada charges in CAD, not USD, so it ends up costing CAD$14.95 per month. Thank you so much, Natalie!] Granted, you get 4 deluxe samples with Topbox instead of 5 with Birchbox and Ipsy.

What I Received

  • BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara (1.5 mL sample) [MSRP CA$23 for 10 mL]
  • Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 (three 10 mL sample tubes in 3 shades) [MSRP CA$23.99 for 50 mL]
  • OFRA Universal Eyebrow Pencil (1.13 g, full-sized) [MSRP US$13 for 1.13 g]
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (14 mL, full-sized) [MSRP CA$9.95]
  • Topbox patterned cylindrical cardboard container
  • Missha coupon for a GWP if I spend $14.99 on Missha at Topbox.ca
