I started this blog ten years ago today! Many thanks to all who have been reading and supporting my blog over the years. Much love.
I don’t have much to say here…just wanted to mark the day. The only real news I have is that I’ve finally had some time to concentrate more on the nail polish tracker, so hopefully I’ll have something ready, soon!
This is straight-up embarrassing, but I was nominated for this award 1½ years ago, and I never got around to doing it! I have a minor backlog of these awards/tags, so I’m going to finish them up on Tag Tuesdays, starting today!
Becca-Anne Beauty first nominated me for this award; she hasn’t blogged for about a year now, but she still has some great makeup and beauty posts on her site!
Then, earlier this month, I was nominated for the same award by Meg Kem Magic, who’s a relatively new blogger (like, a month old!) so please go check out her lovely beauty blog!
Thanks so much to both Becca-Anne and Meg! 😁
The One Lovely Blogger Award stipulates that I need to share 7 facts about myself. Since I’m combining two nominations in one post, I’ll do 14 facts.
The One Lovely Blog Award
The rules for this award are as follows:
Thanking the person that nominated you and leaving a link to their blog
Posting about the award
Sharing seven facts about yourself
Nominating at most 15 people
Letting your nominees know that they’ve been nominated
7 14 Facts About Myself
I hope I haven’t repeated any of these from previous posts!
My favorite color was red, for the longest time. Several years ago, I somehow no longer felt like it was, and I do not currently have a favorite color. I can find most every color appealing—it just has to be used the right way!
Blue cheese is my favorite kind of cheese. Cashel Blue and Saint Agur are my favorites of the blues I’ve tried (I’ve gone through Auvergne, Bénédictin, Bresse, Cambozola, Gorgonzola, Maytag, Météorite, Roquefort, Stilton, and a few others). Both are so buttery and creamy, and not the most pungent blues you’ll find, so they’re great entry-level blues, too. I really should try some more, but these two are so yummy and readily available where I am that I tend not to stray!
Hi everyone! Hope you’re all having a swell Friday!
I’m going to be in the process of changing web hosts this weekend, so hopefully everything will go smoothly and both the blog and the nail polish database will be up and running properly by Monday.
My blog should still be working now, but there may be hiccups here and there (for example, right now my sometime image host is down, so some of my pics are not showing up).
I’m seriously toying with the idea of self-hosting with WordPress.org, like my other blog is. Part of the reason I set it up was to mess around with self-hosted WordPress, and I have to say I like it! The main drawback is then the blog can’t show up on WordPress Reader, unless you’re already subscribed to it, I believe. I think the benefits might outweight the cons, though.
Anyway, I won’t have a fivezero blog post up today (due to the image host issues), but I do have a Rolo candy review up at julesfifty, if you’re so inclined.
My peanut is going trick-or-treating for the first time this year. He’s going as Batman—I totally got him to do the Christian Bale “I’m Batman!” growl—and he’ll be using a Jack-O-lantern pail that my brothers used back when they were kids, so it’s got to be at least twenty years old.
I just wanted to mention that I’ve started a new blog for non-beauty product reviews at Julesfifty, and the first two reviews are Halloween-related (well, just about). I hope you’ll go check it out if you’re interested in home goods, food & drink, baby & kid stuff, movies & TV, and whatever random things I’m interested in at the moment.
I thought about giving out the Meiji biscuits as Halloween treats, but it turns out it’s a good thing I didn’t! My Halloween goodies this year do include Hot Wheels cars, Frozen & My Little Pony sticker packs, Crayola markers, and the usual yummy treats like Snickers, Rolos, KitKats, Minions-branded cookies, and chocolate-free Lucky Charms granola bars. I did manage to save a Bounty bar for the husband and myself to share…
Last month, one of my favorite beauty bloggers, Stash Matters, ran an amazing giveaway to mark her first blogiversary, and I was so lucky to be one of the winners!
Since we live in the same city, Stashy suggested we meet up, and earlier this week, we finally did for the first time! Neither one of us had done such a meetup before, so it was a new experience for us both.
I was a little nervous at first, but was immediately at ease upon meeting her for the first time—the meetup ended up being a lot of fun! I had my peanut with me, as well, and he took to Stashy instantly (a great sign, because I tell you he can sense evil!). We both chatted for a while and then had a leisurely stroll through the shiny new Saks that had just opened up downtown.
Of course, we did a little gift exchange, too, which is what this post is mostly about! I was only meant to receive five items from her giveaway, but of course, Stashy had to go and throw in some excellent extras, as well!
Here’s what I received, all delivered in a cute, reusable shopping tote:
adorable card with drawings of luxe handbags!
Annabelle Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil in Cocoaloco
Bath & Body Works Waikiki Beach Coconut Eau de Toilette
Bath & Body Works Waikiki Beach Coconut Ultra Shea Body Cream
Clarins Pure & Radiant Mask with Pink Clay
C.O. Bigelow Supreme 2X Lip Shine in Spearmint
MAC Pro Longwear Eye Shadow Pro Palette Refill in Uninterrupted
Nicole by OPI Oil to Go Cuticle Oil
Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in Tiramisu
Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick Mini in RS612 Gilded Wine
I usually keep my blogging camera—Samsung DSLR, a gift from my camera-mad dad several years ago—in my DIY lightbox, where it’s pretty safe and nobody touches it.
I usually don’t break things, because I’m usually very aware of my immediate surroundings.
And, I should have taken the shoulder strap off the camera ages ago, since I rarely take this camera on outings.
But, yesterday, I inexplicably left the camera on the edge of my desk—you know, right next to where my hand goes on the keyboard. I got distracted when I heard a loud noise outside the window, and turned sharply. My leg snagged the trailing shoulder strap and the camera fell onto the hard floor, lens-first.
