Rimmel – Play Fast – Underground Collection, part 1

About a year ago, Rimmel released a new line of quick-dry nail polish called Play Fast. The first collection is called Underground, and while I’m not aware of any new colours they have released since, the original batch has an impressive selection. I really love these polishes, as they apply nicely, wear very well, and have very good pigmentation. The bottle design isn’t too shabby, either.

Here are a few shades I swatched recently:

Scene Stealer is awesome. It’s a sheer bronze microglitter with flashes of mauve and pink. Looks great layered, too. Rating: 4.5/5.

Out There is the ivory-white version of Scene Stealer. Very pretty with hints of blue and pink in its microglittery sparkles. Rating: 4.5/5.

Push It is exactly the sort of polish I would have loved back in 1996. Not loving it so much nowadays, but it’s a nice conservative option from the drugstore. It has fine, silver shimmer in a satin finish, to keep it from being too staid. Rating: 3/5.

Camouflage is the best green from the current drugstore options. Bright, leafy, bordering on metallic, and perfect for the winter holidays. Rating: 4.5/5.

Chill is a vibrant cornflower blue shimmer that is slightly reminiscent of Avon’s Lagoon (which I also adore). Lagoon has more of a periwinkle tone to it, while Chill is bluer and brighter. A little one-dimensional, perhaps, but very fun. Rating: 4/5.

Layered NOTD: Rimmel Scene Stealer & Sally Hansen Jamboree Beauty

I think I’ve mentioned before that I avoid swatching sheer polishes because my nails are always stained! I recently got a bottle of Rimmel Play Fast nail polish in Scene Stealer, which is a sheer, sparkly bronze. I tried swatching it but could still see my orange-stained nail underneath (not pretty!). I tried one coat of it over a deep burgundy shimmer (Sally Hansen No Chip in Jamboree Beauty) and it turned out quite marvelously! I’m not usually a big sparkles person, but this was very cool. It becomes a deep, chocolate-y brown with loads of golden bronze shimmer/sparkles. I think I probably could have used a plain black underneath and the result would have been about the same. Rating: 4/5.
