First order of business: Toronto FC are in the MLS Cup Final! Last night, after ten years of existence, my hometown team finally won the Eastern Conference Championship—against rivals Montreal Impact, no less. Toronto FC will now play for the MLS Cup against Western Conference Champions Seattle Sounders FC. Coincidentally, I also spent part of my childhood in Seattle, but I’ll no doubt be supporting TFC in the final.
Second order of business is that today marks the 21-year anniversary of the first date my husband and I ever went on! That night, we saw a movie at the Uptown and had an after-movie coffee and dessert at a nearby Swiss Chalet. (We were poor students, what can I say? We also had dinner at the university cafeteria before heading out! Mmm romantic.) Both locations are now sadly defunct, but we’re still going strong!
We ordered in Swiss Chalet last night, for the first time in three or four years, to celebrate. Gotta love the Festive Special that comes with Lindor chocolates!
Finally, today’s nail polish! Today is indeed Throwback Thursday, though I’m filing it under Classics as well, since it’s the original color in a new formulation.
Back in March, one of my favorite beauty bloggers, Rachael of Helpless Whilst Drying (as a nail polish addict, I’ve gotta love that blog name!) celebrated her 2-year blogiversary and held a fantastic giveaway! I was one of the lucky runners-up and of course, I selected a Lottie London nail polish as my prize.
As it turned out, Rachael is in the UK and the Royal Mail apparently updated their international mail prohibited list to include nail polish! I felt quite awful that Rachael had spent so much effort just finding the nail color I’d requested, only to be told that she couldn’t mail it overseas to Canada, so we did what any beauty-product lovers would do: We decided to have a swap!
We set a budget (about GBP£33/CAD$60), exchanged some ideas of what we’d like from the other country, and off we went shopping! I had loads of fun shopping for Rachael’s goodies! It’s been ages since I’ve done an international swap—those are always the best to me, since I love trying out brands from other countries.
But, of course, even more fun was receiving my parcel from Rachael! I think we were blessed by the swap gods or something, because both of us received our parcels very quickly. I don’t think it took much over a week. Well done, Royal Mail and Canada Post! I guess we were also lucky that nothing got held up in customs, as well.
