My November Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link) managed to arrive after the missing BLAQ Mask sample from my October Glam Bag—Ipsy were very good about re-sending the missing item, but it took a while to arrive. That’s Canada Post for you, though I am a teensy bit disappointed that Ipsy just mailed me the Mask, and nothing else to make up for the error (I’ve probably just seen too many people posting their extras, and it’s likely that Ipsy doesn’t normally do that!).
Anyway, onto this month’s bag, which I am quite happy with even thought it—gasp!—doesn’t contain a nail polish.
Ipsy November 2017 Glam Bag: “All You”, featuring actual Ipsters!
What I Received
ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Baracuda (3.2 oz full size; US$6)
Mudmasky Facial Detox Purifying Recovery Mask (15 mL sample; 60 mL for € 69)
Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment in Mother Nature #06 (0.5 oz full size; US$14.99)
tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Feisty (1.5 g deluxe sample; 5.6 g for US$29)
trèStiQue Brow Pencil in Espresso (0.005 oz mini; full size contains 0.007 oz brow pencil and 2.5 mL brow gel for US$24)
I’ve had higher bag values, but I do like pretty much everything in this bag! Except for the bag itself—I think this month’s bag is poorly designed. I received the teal bag, but it’s still kind of ugly to me.

Everyone is getting in on the unicorn action, these days, and Revlon are the newest ones to release unicorn-themed cosmetics in the form of nail polish! Aww yeah.
I bought two of them at what I thought was full price, which really goes to show how cute these are, ’cause I generally despise buying stuff at full price. Revlon Nail Enamels are usually about C$9 at Rexall (I know, what?!) but I did have a $5 coupon, so I bought two holographic shades from the new HoloChrome collection.
It turns out that they must have been on sale, even as products from a new display, and they rang up at $6.79 instead. Woohoo! Fairy Dust and Unicornicopia were mine at, after the coupon, under $5 a pop!
Also, the next day, I stopped by a Shoppers Drug Mart location that I don’t often visit and saw the same display. The makeup gods must have known that I’m on a shopping spree this month, because Revlon polishes were on sale for $5.99. I picked up two more—Galactic Pink and Hologasm—and I think that’ll be it for me from this collection, as the rest are chromes, not my favorite finish.
The HoloChromes collection polishes all come with a silvery holographic sticker around the cap.
It has been ages since I bought anything from Claire’s, the girls’ jewelry and accessories store that seems ubiquitous in North American malls. (I just took a peek at their Wikipedia page and it turns out that they may be fairly ubiquitous in European malls, too! Are there many malls in Europe? There are some photos of standalone Claire’s stores in the UK and France on that page—it’s hard for me to process a Claire’s that does not reside in a mall!)
In any case, I stopped into my local Claire’s on a whim a little before Halloween to check out their nail polishes. To my surprise, there wasn’t much in the way of seasonal collections, but I did spot emoji and unicorn collections, so I snagged 6 of them. The deal was buy 3, get 3 free; for a while, I considered just getting two polishes, but then I would only be one away from three free ones, so obviously I got suckered into the whole shebang.
Claire’s polishes are pricier than I remember, but I guess it’s been probably at least five years since I’ve shopped here. The special collection colors were also a little more expensive at CA$7 instead of the regular CA$5.50.
Today, I have one from the unicorn collection, Unicorn PWR. Party Like a Unicorn (21780) is described as a “rose gold shimmer.” It’s actually a sheer, medium rose pink shimmer with gold shimmer/microglitter. Still pretty, but not technically like rose gold.
You guys are going to help me out with the naming of this one.
Witch Hazel Bohn (2297) is a glow-in-the-dark polish I picked up from SinfulColors’ latest Halloween collection (it may be a re-release from a previous year, though…I can’t quite tell from the code). And I simply do not understand the name. Witch hazel, sure. But Bohn? What’s that? Google has failed me, as well. Is there a pun I’m not getting? Maybe Bohn sounds like bone? But why Bohn?!?!?! Is there someone famous named Hazel Bohn? SinfulColors’ description doesn’t help much, either: “You glow, ghoul! Skull-shaped glitters in a glow in the dark base are drop-dead awesome.”
I MUST KNOW!
Anyway. As usual, this ostensibly glow-in-the-dark nail polish is a greenish-yellow, and leaves that tint on the nail. Now, I haven’t tried too many glow-in-the-dark polishes in my life, but I literally can never get them to work. I don’t know if it’s because I always cheap out and get them from Claire’s or something, but I put on five coats, charge it under bright light for ages, and they never give me so much as a feeble glow.
I don’t always manage to pick up limited edition SinfulColors polishes,
but this fall I lucked out and found a SinfulColors Halloween display at a local Rexall—during a buy-two-get-two-free nail polish promo! (Somehow they weren’t ringing up with the discount, possibly because they were new shades, but the super cool cashier was very sweet and gave me the sale price, anyway. Thanks, chica!)
One of the shades I picked up was Bite Me (2332), which in the bottle appears to be a rich red shimmer with assorted, flat-black glitter shapes, including a sprinkling of hexagons.
SinfulColors says: “This dark brick red shade has flecks of black glitter for a speck-tacular and spooky effect.”
If you’re counting right, you’ll notice that my October Glam Bag only contains four products! Yes, for the first time in 29 Glam Bags, Ipsy made a mistake. I was supposed to receive a BLAQ Mask—which totally makes me think of Jet Li, and not the Batman villain—but it didn’t arrive. I contacted Ipsy and right away they told me they are sending it out ASAP.
(By the way, this month marks my 2-year Ipsy-versary, though I did have a hiatus in the middle of it—we were on a break!)
So, here’s my October Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link) with just the four items that did arrive.
Ipsy October 2017 Glam Bag: “Spellbound”
What I Received
BLAQ Mask (15 mL sample; 60 mL for US$29)
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder (3 g sample; 9 g for US$29)
Pretty Woman Nail Medic Charcoal Infused Nail Polish in Volcanic Ash (10 mL full size; US$7.99)
tarte Lifted Sweatproof Mascara (3 mL sample; 7 mL for US$23)
TonyMoly Peach Hand Cream (10 mL sample; 30 mL for US$12)
Ipsy makeup bag
Glam Bag Cost
$10 + $4.99 (shipping to Canada) = US$14.99
Total Bag Value
$7.25 + $9.67 + $7.99 + $9.86 + $4
I had a pretty low bag value this month, mostly due to the fact I only had one full-sized item in my Glam Bag! Quite a disappointment. I do like all the products I got, though, so it’s not that I’m unhappy. Yet, if I get another Pretty Woman nail polish next month while there are other cool nail brands available, I’m going to be fairly annoyed. (Seriously, I just got another Pretty Woman polish last month! I like the brand but I want to try new things.)
