Ipsy fivezero's Glam Bag "Carpe P.M." December 2016

Ipsy — December 2016 Glam Bag “Carpe P.M.”

I was going to moan about yet another nail polish-less Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link), but it turns out that there weren’t even any nail polishes distributed by Ipsy this month!

A few of things I did notice that Ipsy have recently changed:

  1. They updated the Profile Quiz, so retake it if you’re a subscriber! They’ve added some more detail.
  2. You can’t seem to review individual items in your Glam Bag, anymore—just the bag as a whole. I hope this isn’t really the case, as I’m not sure how they will be able to tailor your the Glam Bags as well. (How else will I complain about getting endless black eyeliners and haircare products?!) They giveth with the Profile Quiz, and taketh away with the product ratings…
  3. You have four months to finish reviewing items from previous Glam Bags.

This month’s bag is pretty decent, nevertheless! I did get an email from Ipsy last month asking me to choose one of the items I would receive, which was cool. The options given were:

  • Ciaté Liquid Velvet Matte Lipstick in Pin Up
  • City Color Be Matte Blush Trio
  • Hanalei Lip Treatment
  • NYX Prismatic Shadow in Bedroom Eyes
  • NYX Prismatic Shadow in Jaded
  • OUAI Wave Spray
  • tarte Deluxe Maracuja Oil

I almost picked the tarte Maracuja Oil, as I’ve been wanting to try it for a while, now, but in the end I’m a sucker for nail and lip stuff, so I went with the Ciaté lipstick.

Turns out I received the Ciaté lipstick, plus the tarte Maracuja Oil, plus the Hanalei Lip Treatment. Score!

What I Received

  • Ciaté Liquid Velvet Matte Lip Slick in Pin Up (2 mL mini; 6.5 mL full size US$19)
  • Hanalei Lip Treatment (5 mL mini; 15 mL full size US$20)
  • OFRA Eyeshadow/Highlighter in Bliss (4 g full size pan; pan in compact US$15)
  • Royal & Langnickel MODA Angle Shader Brush (full size, comes in a six-brush set USD$19.99)
  • tarte Maracuja Oil (7 mL deluxe sample; 15 mL travel size US$15/CA$19, 50 mL full size US$48/CA$60)

Teaser: Ciaté Mani Marker Nail Polish Pen

In September, Ciaté London will release a new nail polish product called the Mani Marker!

They claim their newest innovation will give “a flawless mani in under 3 minutes”.

From Ciaté:

Never be caught without perfectly polished nails again with Ciaté London’s MANI MARKER. Featuring an easy to use precision tip, this nail polish pen is your ultimate on-the-go quick fix saviour! High coverage colour with one-stroke application makes this your mani’s new best friend.

Use on bare nails only for even application
Step 1: Shake well and push the nib down for 45-60 seconds to release product
Step 2: Apply one coat of colour only onto bare nails, making sure to keep the same pressure from cuticle to tip
Step 3: Once dry apply glossy topcoat

The pens will retail for US$12 each.

What do you think of applying your polish with a pen? I wonder how portable it would be—though whatever they say, I’d probably still be leery of sticking it in my favorite handbag!

Ciaté Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar

Ciaté — Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar: Part I (December 1–16) Swatch & Review

Apologies for the late post today. Photobucket is having major upload/delete issues, and I am not getting any useful feedback from them! Well, that, and…Christmas!

Collection: Ciaté 2015 Winter, Mini Mani Month

I received the Ciaté Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar as a gift last month, and I meant to post about it by the week in December, but obviously things have gotten too hectic!

So, now I’m in a rush to get these babies all swatched up before Christmas is actually upon us! It’s just crazy how as a kid, I got so excited for Christmas, and it seemed like a week would go by like a whole year. Now, as an adult and having to prepare Christmas for the family (who can be a little ungrateful at times, or is it just me? Ha! I kid. Mostly it’s just the peanut batting at ornaments when he knows he’s not supposed to…), it seems like Christmas sneaks up and jumps on me before I even realize it’s not November anymore.

Calvin & Hobbes, Hobbes jumping on Calvin

Here we are in the middle of December, nine days from Christmas, and instead of cleaning house, preparing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals, buying booze, and enjoying time with the family, I’m furiously swatching Ciatés for the blog!

As an overall note, these are all Ciaté mini bottles (there is one full-sized bottle in the Advent Calendar, but it’s reserved for the 24th), which hold 5 mL. The brush is a proper, full-sized brush: slightly thick and flat, and easy to handle. Ciaté definitely makes one of the nicer mini bottles!

And off we go! Ciaté Mini Manis for Dec. 1–16:

Dec. 1: Heirloom (PPM116)

Stunning in the bottle: a fine glitter with raspberry plum, antique gold, and a splash of deep bottle green iridescence. On the nail, it’s desperately sheer and needs at least three coats to get a bit of color on. This is probably awesome layered over a deeper shade; I’ll have to try it over black!

Haulage! November, Part I

Since November is my birthmonth and it also coincides with Sephora’s fall VIB sale and seemingly worldwide Black Friday sales, I was a very spendy girl this month!

I do have to admit that it’s really nice having extra birthday money to spend when all the sales come out of the woodwork. I’m also coming off a semi-successful low-buy, so I gotta say the shopping was fun!

I’ll just dive right into them. Here are the items that are in my possession. I’ll do a Part II when the rest of the ordered items show up.

I hope you have fun reading this, and that you’ll comment if you’ve tried anything I got! I look forward to checking out others’ hauls (I always love to read them, even though they make my wishlist grow like crazy!). The prices I’ve added are calculated after sales and eBates cashback.

First off, my Shoppers Drug Mart haul from last Saturday! I redeemed 95k Optimum Points for $200 worth of products. I spent $23 on a gift, and the rest was a nice birthday haul:

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points haulage, November 2015, Elie Saab Le Parfum, Chanel Distinction gloss, Chanel Singulière nail polish
Elie Saab Le Parfum 50 mL edp ($107; this is cheaper at FragranceX, but then I’d have to spend money…), a perfume I’ve lusted over for a year or two, Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Distinction ($42), & Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Singulière ($31).

Haulage! Ciaté Mini Mani Month (2015)

My awesome little brother just sent me a birthday gift of nail polish! Normally I would not think he’d be great at selecting beauty products, but I suspect he’s researched my blog and concluded that I don’t have enough of Ciaté (true! I only have four).

They stacked them, so I don’t have to.

From Ciaté:

Ciaté’s Mini Mani Month is the ultimate holiday beauty haul, packed with 17 mini paint pot polishes, three mini nail treatments to pamper nails for longer lasting mani’s, and two decorative nail toppers to put you in the party mood! You’ll also find our mini Crystal Nail file plus a full size Paint Pot in an EXCLUSIVE SHADE. Shape, treat, paint and create endless nail looks – this mani-filled month is our favourite time of the year!

Nail. Polish. Overload! And there’s zero overlap with the three Ciatés I already have.

New Release: Ciaté — Broken Ballerina Collection (Fall 2015)

Collection: Ciaté, Fall 2015, Broken Ballerina

Ciaté has released Broken Ballerina for Fall 2015!

Ciaté Broken Ballerina Collection, Fall 2015

The four shades in the new collection are:

  • Fool for Tulle, a glossy hint of pink
  • Pliés Please Me, a moody grey
  • Raising the Barre, a passionate deep red
  • Prima Ballerina, a soft mink

From Ciaté:

Nails take a moody turn in the Ciaté Broken Ballerina collection, packed with ballet slipper silk shades paired with cloudy greys. Silk Satin additives help to provide strength and stamina to nails, elongating polish wear-time.

I think this is a beautiful collection, and hope I can find it somewhere near me. That deep red…ooh la la!

Ciate Broken Ballerina Nail Kit contains 4 Mini Paint Pots (5 mL) and retails for US$25.

Ciaté Paint Pots in Speed Dial

Ciaté — Speed Dial (Paint Pots) Swatch & Review

Brand: Ciaté

Ciaté is one of those brands that’s been on my radar for quite some time. The company name is pronounced “see-ar-tey” (I find the “ar” a bit odd, but I suppose it might be a British thing). It’s actually an acronym standing for “Colour, Innovation, Aspiration, Trend, and Extraordinary”.

I had not tried before Ciaté until this week. Shamefully, I actually already owned two Ciatés (Island Hopping and a mini Talent Scout), and received a third, Brocade Parade, earlier this month in my first Luxe Box.

This week, I received a fourth Ciaté in my latest Topbox, and decided enough was enough—I was going to try it!

Speed Dial (PP008) is described by Ciaté as “an extremely juicy orange”. It’s a fiery tangerine orange cream.
