My local Shoppers Drug Mart was clearancing some Quo by Orly polishes, and although some of the shades available were kind of dried out (really, Shoppers?), I managed to rescue two polishes (here is my review of the other one) that were in good shape. I guess I’ll see in a few months whether these also dry out…
Beyond the Sea (59376) is a vibrant cobalt blue with matching and aqua blue microglitter. The color, though not the finish, is similar to Chanel Vibrato, a striking cobalt blue cream.
Chanel’s Blue Notes / Blue Rhythm collection for Summer 2015 introduced two vibrant blues, Fortissimo (a shimmer) and Vibrato (a cream).
Vibrato was exactly the kind of blue I was looking for, particularly after I’d ordered YSL Bleu Majorelle during a Hudson’s Bay sale, but due to a goof-up by either them or Canada Post, my order got returned and I didn’t bother to re-order.
I’m lucky because my husband doesn’t really want much “fun” stuff for himself at Shoppers Drug Mart. You can redeem your Shoppers Optimum Points for electronics like laptops, game consoles, and cameras, but he’s pretty much an Apple guy, doesn’t want to upgrade to PS4 (yet), and just got a free camera from work. So for the time being, he’s happy for me to splurge on myself with the points.
Yesterday, Shoppers Drug Mart, a Canadian drugstore chain, held an unusual Spend Your Points Event which gave you 30,000 Points back if you redeemed 95,000 Points for $170 worth of free merchandise.
I just want to note for other Canadians that it is really not hard to rack up those Optimum Points if you sign up for SDM’s emails and get their mobile app! They send out Bonus Points deals, some tailored to your personal shopping habits, and it can really be worth it to take advantage of these coupons.
So, off I went to my nearest SDM with a Chanel makeup counter! I typically only like to redeem for brands that don’t tend to go on sale (as far as I know, the best discount I can get on Chanel in Canada is 10% + eBates at Hudson’s Bay whenever they run a cosmetics sale, which is so not better than 100% off!). I’ve wanted a couple of Chanel nail polishes for a while, so this was the perfect opportunity to get them.
Here’s the haul (all prices are obviously in Canadian dollars), with more photos:
Had to wait until yesterday to see the premiere episode of Hannibal, Season 3. It did not disappoint. This is without a doubt the most stunning show on television. (Don’t watch it while having dinner, though.) This season’s guest stars include Zachary Quinto, Richard Armitage, and Joe Anderson.
Here are some nail polishes to go with Ms. Anderson’s superb cobalt blue hat and coat:
