Julep Nail Color in Signe, swatch

Julep — Signe (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Julep 2017 Summer, June “Bask In the Heat”

I didn’t realize it before, but I really ended up with a lot of the shades from Julep’s June 2017 collection: Elsie, Kaitlyn, Marisol, and today’s polish, Signe. I’m only missing Fran, a hot red cream, and Jaydra, a sheer pink-mauve holographic. Think I’ll have to pick them up along the way; Julep has a tendency to discontinue shades (“back in the vault,” as they like to call it), though they do bring them back on occasion.

Signe is described as a “Red-Hot Coral Shimmer.” I have to warn you that this shade actually photographs brighter than it looks in real life. It’s still quite vibrant, but it’s not so fully saturated as it appears in my swatches.

I also find that it pulls more orange than coral-pink, at least on my hands. This is disappointing, as I hoped for the picture color! But on me in actuality, it’s a reddish-orange, like a persimmon, with gold shimmer. It’s still pretty, but it’s not what I expected. Worse, the photos really make it look quite different!

L'Oréal Colour Riche Le Vernis à l'Huile in Coral Trianon, swatch

L’Oréal — Coral Trianon (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

SALE ALERT

Just a quick note to everyone: Sephora (at least on the Canadian site) is currently discounting selected Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss and eye shadow. The lip glosses on sale are shown ($11, reg. $21); the eye shadows do not have a special sale section yet, and you have to click on the individual shades to see the discount ($8, reg $16).

I found that if I bought 8 shadows and 2 empty eyeshadow palettes, I was able to get the $13 discount for regular-priced eye shadows! So go check it out. Here’s my damage, by the way. So glad I didn’t splurge on these during the VIB sale! [By the way, it was pointed out that if I had just placed 2 separate orders of 4 shadows and 1 palette, I would have gotten $13 off each order! That works out better even if you pay for shipping, and you get 2x freebies. D’oh!]

Also, don’t forget ebates.ca (referral link) with 8% cash back today, and Sephora has really good codes now for multiple samples: SUNVIBES for VIB/VIB Rouge, SUNSOUT for Beauty Insiders.

Collection: L’Oréal Summer 2016, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer [Launch]

L’Oréal launched Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes in Canada last summer, and I’ve fallen deeply in love with this drugstore line.

Coral Trianon (442) is from the original launch, and it’s a superbly rich and juicy coral orange cream. It has a teeny touch of white to brighten it up nicely. The pigmentation is fantastic, especially for a drugstore brand.

Deco Miami Nail Lacquer in Rosé All Day, swatch

Deco Miami — Rosé All Day (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Brand: Deco Miami

Last November, I spotted Deco Miami‘s beautiful, jewel-like bottles of nail polish on Ashley’s blog (Short Nail Swatcher), and immediately placed my own order. Like, the next day.

Brickell Blue, Champagne Mami, Rosé All Day, & Tied Down.

Just. Look. At. Them.

Russell Crowe Gladiator entertained meme, are these not the cutest little things

So yes, I bought five of them all in one go and haven’t played with them until last month! The packaging was just so spring-y to me that I buried them all winter…but now it’s time for them to come out and play!

I’ll do a little review here of Deco Miami’s online store, too. Ordering was super easy, and they delivered to Canada, no problem (US$12.99 for my five polishes). They arrived in about a week, and included was a surprise free glass file with Swarovski crystals! Yay! I think it may have been because I bought five, because right now there’s a promo on their site for a set of five Winter 2016 polishes that comes with a free glass file.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Zahara, swatch

Zoya — Zahara (Professional Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Zoya 2016 Spring, Petals

I posted three nail polish swatches on Monday in a 3 Spring Favorites post, and today I’m reviewing one of them.

Zahara (ZP838) is described by Zoya as a “brilliant shimmering coral made modern with an opalescent effect”. It’s from Zoya’s 2016 Petals collection, which included four shades with shimmery, glass flecked finishes. I love a glass fleck effect (some of China Glaze’s older ones are particularly stunning) so I bought three of the shades.

I describe Zahara as a gentle, translucent pinked peach with a mixture of pink and silver glass fleck shimmer. It is semi-opaque.

[Incidentally, Zahara is not the last of all Zoya’s polishes, alphabetically! There are not one, not two, but at least seven Zoya polishes that come after Zahara, though some are discontinued. Zoya’s Z polishes are: Zahara, Zanna, Zara, Ziv, Zoe, Zooey, Zsa Zsa, and Zuza. I’m waiting on Zelda and Zinnia… Seriously, how have they not done Zelda, yet? Or Zoya, for that matter? I guess the owner is a modest woman!]

Color Club Professional Lacquer in Safari Sunset, swatch

Color Club — Safari Sunset (Professional Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Color Club 2014 Spring, Safari Garden

A while back, I scored a pack of six Color Club polishes, plus a clear top coat, marked down to CA$5 at Winners.

Color Club Professional Nail Lacquer, Safari Garden collection

The Color Club packs sold at Winners are typically unlabeled, but the colors all looked like the ones in Color Club’s Spring 2014 Safari Garden collection. I’ll have to label the bottles myself.

Color Club Professional Nail Lacquer in Safari Sunset

Safari Sunset (1023) is a rather unique shade of orange: it’s a peachy amber with honey-gold frost. The African-inspired collection reminds me of those honeypot ants (no pic ’cause it’s a bit icky if you’re not into this stuff).

Maybelline Colorama 5 Day Nail Color in Sunrise Sensation, swatch

Throwback Thursday! Maybelline — Sunrise Sensation (Colorama 5 Day Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Brand: Maybelline

In my last Maybelline nail polish post, I wrote this:

Back in the early 2000s, and possibly the late 90s, as well, Maybelline nail polishes came in these cute, squat little bottles. No matter what line it was (Express Finish, Wet Shine, Wet Shine Diamonds, and so on), this was the bottle. The exception was, if I recall correctly, Colorama polishes, which came in teeny and hilarious looking bottles with little dunce caps. And you know what? Maybelline nail polishes totally rocked back then. They were some of the best nail polishes in the drugstore, for my money. Apart from Express Finish—those were kind of crap, albeit with some awesome colors.

Last month, I dug out some boxes of my drugstore oldies. Can you recognize any of the brands?

fivezero's stash of old drugstore nail polish

Yup, some of those little white/grey dunce caps belong to Maybelline Coloramas. So, today, I have another old Maybelline for Throwback Thursday, this time from the adorable Colorama line.

Maybelline Colorama 5 Day Nail Color in Sunrise Sensation, bottle

Sunrise Sensation is a coral tangerine with silvery, frosty, microglitter. It’s very fun for summer, though I understand if you’re not totally on board with frost finishes.
