MAC Custom Eyeshadow Palette (old): Club, Cranberry, Trax, Vex.

Throwback Thursday! I Found My Lost MAC Palette…and Much More

I doubt anyone will recall, but I’ve mentioned on my blog that since I moved over five years ago, I misplaced what I thought was a few eyeshadow palettes, including my old, custom MAC eyeshadow palette with Club, Cranberry, Trax, and Vex. I also knew a few other palettes from Stila (my less-used ones), mark. by Avon, and some cheapies were missing, but the MAC palette was the one I wanted most.

As time went by, I lost hope of finding them, and thought that perhaps they went missing during the move. I even gave up and finally repurchased those four MAC eyeshadows last year (helps that MAC dropped the price of refill pans, so that it was cheaper to buy them now than when I did around ten years ago!).

Weeeeell. Over the weekend, I threw myself into a frenzy cleaning out the kids’ bedroom. Now, we actually use this bedroom as a guest/storage room, since we still have both kids sleeping with us (in separate cribs) in our master bedroom. We all love it this way for now!

Anyway, guests are coming soon for the winter, so I need to get that guest bedroom organized. I decided to do a top-to-bottom overhaul instead of the half-assery I usually do, and ended up donating about half of my old shoes to charity, etc. (After having two kids, most of my old shoes no longer fit my ever-so-slightly wider feet, not to mention I have more weight to lose and I think my feet are currently fatter than they used to be. My right foot has always been larger than my left, and while my left still fits into many of these pairs, the right simply cannot.) So long, my Elizabeth & James heels, comfy Converse, and leopard print flats! Sniff. I am saving some of the niftier pairs for Olive, though. Heh. She’ll have awesome/horrible vintage shoes by the time she’s twelve.

Rockport Audry Welt Oxfords / Hayden-Harnett Laurel Flats / Puma Caroline Wedge Sneakers
Superga Cotu Classic Sneaker / Jeffrey Campbell Ring-2 Ballet Flats

On the positive side, a few pairs fit me a little better now, since they were a tad roomy before!

Another positive: more room for handbags!

What was this post supposed to be about again? Oh right. Eyeshadow palettes!

Here we go…

CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Oil Free Foundation

CoverGirl — Ready Set Gorgeous Oil Free Foundation Review

Last year, Revlon saw fit to discontinue my drugstore stalwart foundation, Nearly Naked (Nude 150), which was a wonderful formula for my dry skin. The shade match was pretty good, too, though it sort of landed in-between my winter and summer shades, making it a tad too dark or a tad too light for most of the year. But hey—it was cheap and it was certainly good enough for everyday use!

I didn’t discover Revlon’s treachery until earlier this year, and then I went about buying up several bottles of Nearly Naked foundation. Finally, I came to my senses and realized what I really needed to do was to find a new Holy Grail drugstore-priced foundation.

I’ve accumulated quite a few new ones, and I’ll be testing and reviewing them this spring and summer.

The first one in my rotation is a new formula from CoverGirl called Ready Set Gorgeous Oil Free Foundation. I’ll be straight with you: I mainly bought it because it was on sale for CA$5.99, which is like, dirt cheap. (L’Oréal and Revlon foundations regularly go for upwards of $15 here, for reference. Even CoverGirl’s newest foundation, Vitalist Elixir, is retailing at Shoppers Drug Mart for around $17! Eeep!)

I also found that CoverGirl have stepped up their shades since I last used any of their foundations—probably in high school when I had few options and wore a way-too-Calamine-lotion-pink shade of Clean Liquid Foundation—which they still make! I gotta try it again just for kicks! Apparently it was introduced in 1961.

But lo and behold, I found a relatively good shade match in the new line.

And so CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Oil Free Foundation in Medium Beige (210) came into my possession.

From CoverGirl:

Get insta-gorgeous with Ready Set Gorgeous! This liquid foundation’s oil-free formula provides medium coverage to even skin tone and cover imperfections. The result is a flawless, natural look that lasts all day.

The built-in powder system fights against shine, pulling oil and sweat AWAY from your face instead of trapping them under your foundation. Pair with the entire instaGLAM collection for a glam look on the go.

Haulage! Drugstores & Cosmetic Love (Oct 2016 & Feb–Mar 2017)

Finally, everyone in the household is on the road to recovery! I managed to stay relatively illness-free, except for once when I think I might have given myself food poisoning and had an upset stomach for a night. We were all so overwhelmed over the last week and a half that my husband actually had to remind me that we forgot about our 17th wedding anniversary over the weekend.

I should really get my computer to remind me about stuff like this.

So, we celebrated last night with some dinner delivered and half a movie (The Nice Guys, if you’re interested—and that’s how we have to roll nowadays, early to bed). Plus, we’ll add a li’l anniversary money to our fun budgets!

Speaking of fun budgets, here’s some stuff I hauled over the last couple of months from drugstores. And I’m including some stuff I got from Cosmetic Love late last year, but totally forgot about under my desk.

Haulage! SaleEvent.ca (Feb & Mar 2017)

Since I don’t have a car, it can be pretty hard for me to get to warehouse sales and discounters out in suburbia, which is why SaleEvent.ca is an online store I love to shop at for cheap nail polish and other makeup items. A lot of it is discontinued stuff, as well, so it’s a good source for harder-to-find products and shades.

I’ve also had nothing but positive experiences with the shop—with my most recent order, I experienced a technical browser error, and their customer service dealt with it superbly. My orders always come well-packed and the items are always in fine condition.

Here are my combined two most recent orders, from February and March, made partly because I found out that my favorite drugstore foundation (Revlon Nearly Naked in Nude) was discontinued last year and I wanted to stock up.

All prices are in CA$.

Tag Tuesday: Lip Lovin’

It has been eons since I did a Tag post, partly because I haven’t been tagged for anything in a while. Sniff! 😦

Anyway, I came across this tag at The Makeup Honey—the blogger, Sian, created the tag herself—and thought it’d be fun to do.

Tag Tuesday: Lip Lovin’

1. What was the first lipstick you ever owned?

CoverGirl in Honeyplum Glow! I can’t remember if my mom let me buy it, or if she gave it to me. Or maybe I just “borrowed” it and she never said anything! I used it all through high school. JUST ONE LIPSTICK. Boggles my mind, now.

2. Which lip product has been the biggest disappointment?

Lipstick Queen’s Sinner Lipstick in Berry. Horrid. I also hate all those pastel lipcolors that end up so chalky and showing every line and bit of dry skin on the lips! I’m looking at you, CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in Coral Cat and MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Fashion City! Another two fails I remember well were Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Blackberry and Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in Flashing Lights.

3. Which lipstick is your holy grail product?

Quick Photo — A Peek at Some of My Old Nail Polish

I haven’t opened either of these large shoeboxes in a very long time: they house a bunch of my older (pre-2010) drugstore nail polishes. I’m in the process of assembling some newly-acquired IKEA HELMER file cabinets which will become new homes for my polishes that currently reside in various boxes and bins.

I took a couple of shots of these boxes today. Recognize anything? And, yes, there are some StreetWears in that mostly-Revlon box!

P.S. The five Revlons in the featured image at the very top are new to me; I’ll be posting about that haul, shortly!
