Julep January 2018 "Advantage Point"

New Release: Julep — January 2018 “Advantage Point”

Collection: Julep 2018 January “Advantage Point”

Julep’s January 2018 collection consists of six new and one repromoted shades. We also start a new 2018 Zodiac collection with a new shade for the sign of Capricorn (December 22–January 19).

Along with the Nail Color collection, Julep typically also releases some new makeup and/or skincare. This month’s new non-nail polish product is Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil (25 mL for $36 / $28.80 Maven). I’ve kind of gone off facial oils, personally—I don’t think my face likes them very much (clog city!) even if rosehip oil definitely brightens well for me—so this won’t be making it into my customizable Maven box this month.

The new nail colors are on the subtler side, a bit of a respite from the bling of the holidays!

These new polish shades are suitably chic with loads of wear-anywhere potential. Shifting seamlessly from a job interview to a celebratory night on the town, your nails can stay perfectly on point in all situations.

Here they are:

tarte — Maracuja Oil Review

I received this Deluxe (7 mL) bottle of tarte’s popular Maracuja Oil in a recent Ipsy bag, and I was so excited because I’d really been wanting to try it.

My skin has always been dry, but now that I’m in my late 30s, I have found it getting drier and flakier each winter. Using facial oil layered over my moisturizer has helped to keep my skin less dry.

In the past, I’ve tried Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil, Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil, Mitchell & Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil, and Cocoon Apothecary Organic Rosehip Oil Moisturizing Serum. My favorite by far has been the rosehip oil, which noticeably helps my skin to heal when it has redness and blemishes. The other oils have not been particularly outstanding—they work fine as oils to keep moisture in my skin, but there have been no other improvements to my skin’s appearance when using them.

tarte’s Maracuja Oil is derived from the Passiflora edulis plant, a species of passion flower native to Brazil. The oil itself is extracted from the seeds in the passion fruit.

Ipsy fivezero's Glam Bag "Carpe P.M." December 2016

Ipsy — December 2016 Glam Bag “Carpe P.M.”

I was going to moan about yet another nail polish-less Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link), but it turns out that there weren’t even any nail polishes distributed by Ipsy this month!

A few of things I did notice that Ipsy have recently changed:

  1. They updated the Profile Quiz, so retake it if you’re a subscriber! They’ve added some more detail.
  2. You can’t seem to review individual items in your Glam Bag, anymore—just the bag as a whole. I hope this isn’t really the case, as I’m not sure how they will be able to tailor your the Glam Bags as well. (How else will I complain about getting endless black eyeliners and haircare products?!) They giveth with the Profile Quiz, and taketh away with the product ratings…
  3. You have four months to finish reviewing items from previous Glam Bags.

This month’s bag is pretty decent, nevertheless! I did get an email from Ipsy last month asking me to choose one of the items I would receive, which was cool. The options given were:

  • Ciaté Liquid Velvet Matte Lipstick in Pin Up
  • City Color Be Matte Blush Trio
  • Hanalei Lip Treatment
  • NYX Prismatic Shadow in Bedroom Eyes
  • NYX Prismatic Shadow in Jaded
  • OUAI Wave Spray
  • tarte Deluxe Maracuja Oil

I almost picked the tarte Maracuja Oil, as I’ve been wanting to try it for a while, now, but in the end I’m a sucker for nail and lip stuff, so I went with the Ciaté lipstick.

Turns out I received the Ciaté lipstick, plus the tarte Maracuja Oil, plus the Hanalei Lip Treatment. Score!

What I Received

  • Ciaté Liquid Velvet Matte Lip Slick in Pin Up (2 mL mini; 6.5 mL full size US$19)
  • Hanalei Lip Treatment (5 mL mini; 15 mL full size US$20)
  • OFRA Eyeshadow/Highlighter in Bliss (4 g full size pan; pan in compact US$15)
  • Royal & Langnickel MODA Angle Shader Brush (full size, comes in a six-brush set USD$19.99)

Happy Canada Day! Canadian Products by Cocoon Apothecary and Coco & Lulu (by Cake Beauty) Swatch & Review

Featured Image: livingbetweenwednesdays.com

Firstly, Happy Canada Day to all those in the great white north! Canada is celebrating its 148th birthday today. I didn’t grow up in Canada, exactly (if anyone’s ever wondered why I don’t spell the Canadian/British way, this is why), but I’ve spent the vast majority of my adult years here and I could not be happier to be raising my baby son in this country.

Secondly, I apologize for reviewing a recently discontinued line of nail polish today, but it’s the only Canadian brand from which I own a red polish!

But, I am reviewing two Canadian products today, and the second product is by Cocoon Apothecary, which is definitely available! It is currently also 25% off at Well.ca (referral link, sale runs through this Sunday).

Brand: Coco & Lulu (by Cake Beauty)

I’ll cover the nail polish first. Coco & Lulu was a line of 3 Free Nail Lacquer created in 2013 by Toronto-based Cake Beauty for the Canadian books & lifestyle chain, Indigo/Chapters. I’m not 100% sure that the line is dead, but Indigo/Chapters no longer sells it online, and the line’s Twitter hasn’t been updated since, well, 2013.

The set a Paris-themed holiday release, which I bought the following January, for $14 on clearance. It included three colors: Champagne, Eiffel Tower, and Left Bank. I’ll review Eiffel Tower another day, but my Canada Day mani this year is Left Bank + Champagne.
