MAC Custom Eyeshadow Palette (old): Club, Cranberry, Trax, Vex.

Throwback Thursday! I Found My Lost MAC Palette…and Much More

I doubt anyone will recall, but I’ve mentioned on my blog that since I moved over five years ago, I misplaced what I thought was a few eyeshadow palettes, including my old, custom MAC eyeshadow palette with Club, Cranberry, Trax, and Vex. I also knew a few other palettes from Stila (my less-used ones), mark. by Avon, and some cheapies were missing, but the MAC palette was the one I wanted most.

As time went by, I lost hope of finding them, and thought that perhaps they went missing during the move. I even gave up and finally repurchased those four MAC eyeshadows last year (helps that MAC dropped the price of refill pans, so that it was cheaper to buy them now than when I did around ten years ago!).

Weeeeell. Over the weekend, I threw myself into a frenzy cleaning out the kids’ bedroom. Now, we actually use this bedroom as a guest/storage room, since we still have both kids sleeping with us (in separate cribs) in our master bedroom. We all love it this way for now!

Anyway, guests are coming soon for the winter, so I need to get that guest bedroom organized. I decided to do a top-to-bottom overhaul instead of the half-assery I usually do, and ended up donating about half of my old shoes to charity, etc. (After having two kids, most of my old shoes no longer fit my ever-so-slightly wider feet, not to mention I have more weight to lose and I think my feet are currently fatter than they used to be. My right foot has always been larger than my left, and while my left still fits into many of these pairs, the right simply cannot.) So long, my Elizabeth & James heels, comfy Converse, and leopard print flats! Sniff. I am saving some of the niftier pairs for Olive, though. Heh. She’ll have awesome/horrible vintage shoes by the time she’s twelve.

Elizabeth & James Mazi Pumps / Converse Skidgrip EV Argyle Broken Heart
Seychelles Shimmy Pumps / Delman Sonya Pumps
Rockport Audry Welt Oxfords / Hayden-Harnett Laurel Flats / Puma Caroline Wedge Sneakers
Superga Cotu Classic Sneaker / Jeffrey Campbell Ring-2 Ballet Flats

On the positive side, a few pairs fit me a little better now, since they were a tad roomy before!

Hayden-Harnett Memphis Pumps / Fluevog Dig Booties / Biviel Mary Jane Zipper Pumps

Another positive: more room for handbags!

What was this post supposed to be about again? Oh right. Eyeshadow palettes!

Here we go…

Rebecca Minkoff Collection Alaina shoulder bag in Mango

Haulage! Rebecca Minkoff Collection — Alaina

I like to browse a couple of online consignment shops every now and then—specifically Yoogi’s Closet and The RealReal, which are the only ones I’ve actually purchased from—but I stepped it up this month since my birthday is coming up in a few months and I’m hoping to finally pick up a small Chloé Paraty. (Though my eye was also recently turned by a ten year-old black quilted Chloé Bay carried by Rachael Taylor’s character on The Defenders…)

Over the weekend, I browsed The RealReal’s Rebecca Minkoff section, as usual, hoping to spot an old school RM bag at a good price (this is my Holy Grail RM), and noticed a gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff Collection bag at a deep discount.

The Rebecca Minkoff Collection bags first came out around 2010, and represented a more luxe (and higher-priced) version of her usual line. Some of the bags used existing designs, like the MAB, MAC, and Nikki, adding luxe details like fancier leathers and real gold. Others were new designs exclusive to the line (I believe they may have been released 2012-ish), and I much preferred them to the blinged out classic styles.

I remain on the hunt for the Allie in Black & Pink and the Studded Elle in Iridescent, but the one I just got is the Alaina in Mango, which retailed for US$850. I snagged it, gently used, off The RealReal for a total of $61. It was listed at US$130, on sale for 30% off, with a store coupon stacked on for $30 off. Shipping to Canada was $35—eek, I know, but they shipped it FedEx International Priority, so it arrived at my door in two days.

Olympia Le-Tan x Lancôme LE Fall 2017 Collection, Olympia's Wonderland Icon Palette

New Release: Olympia Le-Tan × Lancôme – Olympia’s Wonderland Icon Palette (Fall 2017)

No nail polish in this collaboration between Lancôme and clutch book designer Olympia Le-Tan (though I do want to try some from the recent Lancôme collection), but this Icon Palette is so pretty that I wanted to post it!

Olympia’s Wonderland Icon Palette, Limited Edition for Fall 2017, contains 4 eyeshadows, blush, and four lip colors in the form of lipstick powder. Very old school, no?

Olympia Le Tan and Lancôme unveil a wildly desirable collector’s item: the first make-up palette to perfectly mirror the designer’s minaudière clutch-books. Just like the handbags that inspired it, this unprecedented palette is sheathed in cotton embroideries patterned like the cover of an antique book. An imaginary book, as it happens…

Inside, blusher, eyeshadow and lipsticks bring back the glamour of the Fifties with an ultra-contemporary twist. An important detail to note: each of these shades is a reworked version of a colour Olympia Le-Tan chose from Lancôme’s archives and updated.

Eyeshadows:

  • Nommé Désir 1971 (muted white)
  • Paradis 1956 (deep burgundy)
  • Brun Nacré 1965 (slightly iridescent taupe)
  • Gris Argent 1988 (glittery steel)

Lip Powders (to be used over La Base 1960):

  • Rouge de Rose 1955 (cold violet)
  • Olympia 1980 (flamboyant red)
  • Anémone 1959 (cherry)
  • Couture 1962 (vintage rose)

Other:

  • Pink blush, embossed with a ribbon motif taken from a 1950s Lancôme powder compact
  • La Base 1960 (universal colour-fixative base)
  • Double-ended makeup brush

The palette retails for CA$100.

The collection also includes lip-shaped lipstick bullets! I don’t see them on the Lancôme Canada website yet, however.

Happy Shopping!

11 Facts About Me

I shall pull a Chanelle here and link you to my previous award posts and tag posts, in which you will learn more than you ever wanted to about yours truly.

Chanelle’s 11 Questions

1. Pineapple on pizza, yes or no?

OH YES. YES INDEEDY. Hawaiian pizza (actually invented by a Canadian!) is probably my favorite pizza. Maybe a white seafood pizza, with capers, comes close. I also love artichokes and mushrooms on pizza. I really like pizza.

2. Do you believe in soul mates?

One Lovely Blog Award

The One Lovely Blog Award

This is straight-up embarrassing, but I was nominated for this award 1½ years ago, and I never got around to doing it! I have a minor backlog of these awards/tags, so I’m going to finish them up on Tag Tuesdays, starting today!

Becca-Anne Beauty first nominated me for this award; she hasn’t blogged for about a year now, but she still has some great makeup and beauty posts on her site!

Then, earlier this month, I was nominated for the same award by Meg Kem Magic, who’s a relatively new blogger (like, a month old!) so please go check out her lovely beauty blog!

Thanks so much to both Becca-Anne and Meg! 😁

The One Lovely Blogger Award stipulates that I need to share 7 facts about myself. Since I’m combining two nominations in one post, I’ll do 14 facts.

The One Lovely Blog Award

The rules for this award are as follows:

  • Thanking the person that nominated you and leaving a link to their blog
  • Posting about the award
  • Sharing seven facts about yourself
  • Nominating at most 15 people
  • Letting your nominees know that they’ve been nominated

7 14 Facts About Myself

I hope I haven’t repeated any of these from previous posts!

1

My favorite color was red, for the longest time. Several years ago, I somehow no longer felt like it was, and I do not currently have a favorite color. I can find most every color appealing—it just has to be used the right way!

2

Blue cheese is my favorite kind of cheese. Cashel Blue and Saint Agur are my favorites of the blues I’ve tried (I’ve gone through Auvergne, Bénédictin, Bresse, Cambozola, Gorgonzola, Maytag, Météorite, Roquefort, Stilton, and a few others). Both are so buttery and creamy, and not the most pungent blues you’ll find, so they’re great entry-level blues, too. I really should try some more, but these two are so yummy and readily available where I am that I tend not to stray!
