It’s rare for me to find my name in a cosmetic item—even though I really do not have an uncommon English name—and I almost always buy a similar-named one when I see it. Over the years, I’ve picked up NARS Christina lipstick and nail polishes Zoya Christinna, NYX Christine, and Julep Chrissy, Christi, and Christa. Only one of those is my actual name!
So, when Julep ran a $4 charity sale back in September, I took the opportunity to pick up Christa, which was originally released in a 2015 Mystery Box. Julep calls it a “Purple Twilight Liquid Holographic.”
Julep’s stock photos make this look pinker than it is; to me, it’s a more neutral—and probably even bluer—purple with a silvery finish. The holo is on the subtler side, so in some light it just looks like a silver purple shimmer. In bright sunlight, you’ll see a stronger pink shift and soft holo effect.
I thought I was being good by skipping my November Maven Box (not a great fan of frosts), but in the end, I bought a bunch of stuff from Julep, anyway. Blast these holographic holiday sets, Mystery Boxes, and GWPs!
$24.99. This box is currently still available at Julep (referral link) through today, plus you get a chance to win a pair of 1 carat diamond earrings—and don’t forget eBates cashback if you do buy anything!
Products in the Mystery Box may vary, except for Maxine and Reina polishes which are guaranteed.
Who needs a diamond ring? Let every finger shine bright with this dazzling mystery box.
Includes two NEW multi-faceted nail colors (including our most brilliant holographic EVER!) + other beauty & nail surprises.
Plus, one special mystery box includes a pair of 1 carat diamond stud earrings! Will you be the one to find them?
This mystery box definitely includes:
- Maxine (Bombshell) – Prismatic Ultra-Holographic
- Reina (It Girl) – Black Holographic Textured Microglitter
Make it yours, make it fun. BRAVE PRETTY
Offer expires on 11/21/2017 at 11:59PM PT, or while supplies last. Every Bling It On Mystery Box will include Maxine (Bombshell) and Reina (It Girl). Other products vary.
Well, I doubt I’ll be lucky enough to win the diamond studs (imagine my mom’s face at Christmas, eh?), but I am still really pleased with the selection of products I got!
I’ve been dying to try a Julep Mystery Box, but the only ones (one?) they’ve had since I’ve been a subscriber have not come with polishes I’ve been interested in. This time, they had two new holo/metallic shades, so I was definitely in—and I was not disappointed!
Julep’s December 2017 collection consists of seven new sparkly shades for the holidays. And, the final addition to their 2017 Zodiac collection is a new shade for my own sign, Sagittarius (November 23–December 21).
Julep have also introduced more Holiday Nail Sets (the first couple are listed in my post about the November 2017 collection). The Royal Suite set and a couple of the smaller sets contain some new shades:
Royal Suite ($42 / Maven $24) consists of 6 new holographic shades in mini 3 mL bottles. Of course, I’ve already bought this!
Here’s a roundup of SinfulColors’ newest collections for Winter 2017!

Everyone is getting in on the unicorn action, these days, and Revlon are the newest ones to release unicorn-themed cosmetics in the form of nail polish! Aww yeah.
I bought two of them at what I thought was full price, which really goes to show how cute these are, ’cause I generally despise buying stuff at full price. Revlon Nail Enamels are usually about C$9 at Rexall (I know, what?!) but I did have a $5 coupon, so I bought two holographic shades from the new HoloChrome collection.
It turns out that they must have been on sale, even as products from a new display, and they rang up at $6.79 instead. Woohoo! Fairy Dust and Unicornicopia were mine at, after the coupon, under $5 a pop!
Also, the next day, I stopped by a Shoppers Drug Mart location that I don’t often visit and saw the same display. The makeup gods must have known that I’m on a shopping spree this month, because Revlon polishes were on sale for $5.99. I picked up two more—Galactic Pink and Hologasm—and I think that’ll be it for me from this collection, as the rest are chromes, not my favorite finish.
The HoloChromes collection polishes all come with a silvery holographic sticker around the cap.
I said on Tuesday that I’d be back swatching this week, and it may be Friday today, but here’s a promised nail polish swatch!
Elsie is one of the polishes I received in my first ever Julep Maven box, back in June. It’s a great way to kick off my Julep subscription, because I am so in love with it!
Described by Julep as a “Strawberry Popsicle Holographic Jelly,” the color description is spot on. It is also labeled as a sheer, though I’d really call it a semi-opaque. And don’t let the “jelly” descriptor fool you: it’s not a proper jelly, and doesn’t have that thick, cushy feel. It actually applies quite thinly, though it is still well-pigmented and is nearly opaque with two, easily applied coats.
