New Release: Julep — May 2018 “Golden Hour”

Collection: Julep 2018 May “Golden Hour”

Julep’s May 2018 collection consists of four new and four repromoted shades of bright nail color, plus three new shades of Skip the Brush Crème-to-Powder Blush Sticks in Rose Gold, Pearl Glow, and the first matte shade, Muted Mauve (6 g for $24 / $19.20 Maven):

Julep Skip the Brush Crème-to-Powder Blush Sticks in Rose Gold, Pearl Glow, Muted Mauve (May 2018)

This month’s Nail Color shades are mostly brights in creme and shimmer finishes. Afton (described as a “modern camel creme” when it was released in last winter’s QVC box), April, and Sam are repromotes.

From Julep:

Go for contrast and full saturation with polish shades that sing of fruity drinks, blooming flowers, and life in full color. These punchy brights are sure to bring a smile.

Here are the eight polishes for May:

Julep April 2018 nail color collection

New Release: Julep — April 2018 “Sweet Escape”

Collection: Julep 2018 April “Sweet Escape”

Julep’s April 2018 collection consists of four new and four repromoted shades of bright nail color, plus eight new shades of a reformulated lip sheer: Way Butter Hydrating Lip (3.2 g for $20 / $16 Maven).

Finally, I am digging some of these new shades! I have skipped my Maven boxes for the last few months because I haven’t been Julep’s new releases—apart from two polishes I just ordered, I’ve been Julep-free for a while. This month changes that!

From Julep:

Think cotton candy, mint ice cream, and confetti cake. The bright colors are half the fun. These new polish shades are the stuff of sugar-sweet dreams with shimmery and iridescent finishes as the icing on top.

This month’s collection is a little different in that it’s half repromotes! Granted, two of the repromoted shades, Maureen and Samma, were released in a 2017 QVC holiday set, so they weren’t really available to regular Julep Maven subscribers until now.

Here are the eight polishes for April:

Julep March 2018 Matter of Time collection

New Release: Julep — March 2018 “Matter of Time”

Collection: Julep 2018 March “Matter of Time”

Julep’s March 2018 collection consists of eight new shades of matte nail color and two new skincare products in stick form: Dream Big Nightly Renewal Pressed Serum with BHA (15 g for $36 / $28.80 Maven) and You Got This Pressed Serum Daily Moisturizer (17 g for $36 / $28.80 Maven).

Julep is doing a great job of saving me money, with all the nail colors this month being matte! Eek—not my favorite nail polish effect. I shall be skipping yet another month.

Admittedly, the stick skincare looks a bit interesting, but I kind of feel like I’d rather try the Korean versions, first. Also, I am trying to get through my massive skincare backlog, so I am not really buying any skincare at the moment.

One other quick note: Julep released a Mystery Box (Express Yourself) last month, which included two polishes: Dora (Exotic Magenta Iridescent Shimmer), which I already have, and a new color, Ximena (Pink Sugar Iridescent). I’d probably have gone for it if Dora had been a second new color, instead.

Includes two better-than-candy nail colors
with a fluttering heart cosmetic bag + more beauty surprises.

Look for some extra glimmer. There’s a chance you’ll win
a Tiffany & Co. necklace in your mystery box.

Anyway, here are the eight new polishes for March:

Julep’s February 2018 collection consists of seven new shades of nail color and a new skincare product, So Awake Depuffing Gel Eye Cream (12 g for $38 / $30.40 Maven).

The new nail colors strike me as being decidedly fall-like, which is not really a bad thing as fall collections are typically my favorites!

Smitten in the Stars
Inspire endless intrigue with soft, moonstruck shades
in subdued sheers and cozy neutrals.

Julep Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil

Julep — Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil Review

This review is part of my week of facial cleanser reviews!
Here are the links to the other products I talked about:

Monday
Rodial Stem Cell Cleansing Cream

Tuesday
DECIEM NIOD Sanskrit Saponins

Wednesday
The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil

Thursday
Julep Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil

Friday
philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser

The fourth face cleanser I’m reviewing this week is another cleansing oil, this time from Julep, an American brand. They started off making nail polish, but have successfully expanded their line to include makeup and skincare, and their skincare in particular is inspired by Korean beauty (Julep founder Jane Park is Korean-American). You’ll find in their skincare lineup products like cleansing sticks, konjac sponges, sheet masks, and the first item of Julep skincare I’ve tried: Love Your Bare Face Hydrating Cleansing Oil.

From Julep:

A lightweight, antioxidant-rich oil blend that melts away makeup and impurities without stripping your skin. This Korean skincare secret is formulated for all skin types.

To use: Pump into dry hands and massage over dry face to dissolve makeup, dirt, and impurities. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. For best results, use with a Konjac Sponge.

At this point, I’ve still only used three cleansing oils: Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil, The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil, and Julep Love Your Bare Face. Josie Maran’s has a thick, honey-like texture; The Face Shop’s has a runny, liquid texture. Julep’s is closer to Josie Maran’s, but maybe a smidge less thick, which means it doesn’t drag as much when applied on dry skin. Like Josie Maran’s, it also has a similar citrus-y smell and yellow hue. In this review, I’ll be comparing Julep’s cleansing oil a lot with Josie Maran’s cleansing oil, since I found the two of them to be fairly similar in texture and performance.

Julep January 2018 "Advantage Point"

New Release: Julep — January 2018 “Advantage Point”

Collection: Julep 2018 January “Advantage Point”

Julep’s January 2018 collection consists of six new and one repromoted shades. We also start a new 2018 Zodiac collection with a new shade for the sign of Capricorn (December 22–January 19).

Along with the Nail Color collection, Julep typically also releases some new makeup and/or skincare. This month’s new non-nail polish product is Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil (25 mL for $36 / $28.80 Maven). I’ve kind of gone off facial oils, personally—I don’t think my face likes them very much (clog city!) even if rosehip oil definitely brightens well for me—so this won’t be making it into my customizable Maven box this month.

The new nail colors are on the subtler side, a bit of a respite from the bling of the holidays!

These new polish shades are suitably chic with loads of wear-anywhere potential. Shifting seamlessly from a job interview to a celebratory night on the town, your nails can stay perfectly on point in all situations.

Julep Nail Color in Christa, swatch

Julep — Christa (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Julep 2015 Summer, July “Holo Nights/Days Mystery Box”

It’s rare for me to find my name in a cosmetic item—even though I really do not have an uncommon English name—and I almost always buy a similar-named one when I see it. Over the years, I’ve picked up NARS Christina lipstick and nail polishes Zoya Christinna, NYX Christine, and Julep Chrissy, Christi, and Christa. Only one of those is my actual name!

So, when Julep ran a $4 charity sale back in September, I took the opportunity to pick up Christa, which was originally released in a 2015 Mystery Box. Julep calls it a “Purple Twilight Liquid Holographic.”

Julep’s stock photos make this look pinker than it is; to me, it’s a more neutral—and probably even bluer—purple with a silvery finish. The holo is on the subtler side, so in some light it just looks like a silver purple shimmer. In bright sunlight, you’ll see a stronger pink shift and soft holo effect.
