My November Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link) managed to arrive after the missing BLAQ Mask sample from my October Glam Bag—Ipsy were very good about re-sending the missing item, but it took a while to arrive. That’s Canada Post for you, though I am a teensy bit disappointed that Ipsy just mailed me the Mask, and nothing else to make up for the error (I’ve probably just seen too many people posting their extras, and it’s likely that Ipsy doesn’t normally do that!).
Anyway, onto this month’s bag, which I am quite happy with even thought it—gasp!—doesn’t contain a nail polish.
Ipsy November 2017 Glam Bag: “All You”, featuring actual Ipsters!
What I Received
ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Baracuda (3.2 oz full size; US$6)
Mudmasky Facial Detox Purifying Recovery Mask (15 mL sample; 60 mL for € 69)
Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment in Mother Nature #06 (0.5 oz full size; US$14.99)
tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Feisty (1.5 g deluxe sample; 5.6 g for US$29)
trèStiQue Brow Pencil in Espresso (0.005 oz mini; full size contains 0.007 oz brow pencil and 2.5 mL brow gel for US$24)
I’ve had higher bag values, but I do like pretty much everything in this bag! Except for the bag itself—I think this month’s bag is poorly designed. I received the teal bag, but it’s still kind of ugly to me.

Over the last year or so, I’ve tried several cleansing oils, both Western and Korean, but I wasn’t 100% sold on them and decided to branch into cleansing balms. However, I goofed and accidentally ordered a cleansing cream. Because I’m loath to waste products, I’ve been using it for a couple of months now.
The most famous cleansing cream in North America is probably Pond’s, which I last used over twenty years ago, back in high school! (Just for kicks, I actually bought a jar each of Pond’s Cold Cream and Moisturizer last week, when it was on sale. I am curious to see how the cleansing cream compares with this K-beauty version.) It was then that I decided I wasn’t much of a fan of cleansing creams, which you apply to your skin and then wipe off with a tissue.
So, It’s Skin Mangowhite Cleansing Cream is basically the second cleansing cream I’ve ever tried.
From It’s Skin:
Mango white body line containing tropical fruit mangosteen for refreshing mind and brightening skin
The product comes in a large 200 mL tub, and the cream inside is a soft white with a sprinkling of little, dark pink specks. I don’t know what the specks are, but they’re definitely not for exfoliation—they dissolve away when you rub them. My guess is they’re nuggets of certain ingredients, or possibly just for visual appeal.
If you’re counting right, you’ll notice that my October Glam Bag only contains four products! Yes, for the first time in 29 Glam Bags, Ipsy made a mistake. I was supposed to receive a BLAQ Mask—which totally makes me think of Jet Li, and not the Batman villain—but it didn’t arrive. I contacted Ipsy and right away they told me they are sending it out ASAP.
(By the way, this month marks my 2-year Ipsy-versary, though I did have a hiatus in the middle of it—we were on a break!)
So, here’s my October Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link) with just the four items that did arrive.

I had a pretty low bag value this month, mostly due to the fact I only had one full-sized item in my Glam Bag! Quite a disappointment. I do like all the products I got, though, so it’s not that I’m unhappy. Yet, if I get another Pretty Woman nail polish next month while there are other cool nail brands available, I’m going to be fairly annoyed. (Seriously, I just got another Pretty Woman polish last month! I like the brand but I want to try new things.)

Over the summer, The Face Shop released a collection of makeup and nail polish in collaboration with Marvel! The characters included in the nail polish were Black Widow, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Thor. Captain America’s logo was used for some of the makeup items (they were super cool-looking—kind of wish I’d picked up one of the palettes!). You can see the collection here.
I hadn’t tried The Face Shop’s nail polishes before, or any of their makeup at all, so I didn’t feel like going whole hog and ordering all four Trendy Nails Duos. I picked up two: Spidy (Spider-Man) and Thunder Storm (Thor). No idea why they didn’t just go with the original character names. And Spidey’s misspelled, to boot!
Anyway. The packaging is nice, and makes for collectible items:
Each Duo comes with two small bottles of polish.
Thunder Storm (02) comes with a magenta and green flake topper (1) and a soft metallic gold (2).
Purple and green seems better suited to the Hulk, but for whatever reason they went with Thor, instead. I’d have gone with a silver and red flake for the Norse
god—seems more obvious, no?
Now, orders from Korean online beauty stores usually take between 3–5 weeks to arrive to me in Canada. I assume a large part of this time is spent in Canadian customs, as well, though I think these orders are exempt from duties and tax because of a trade deal Canada recently signed with South Korea.
Get this. My August Jolse order shipped (August 8) five days after I ordered it (August 3). It arrived to me ten days (August 18) after shipping. I received my order in a record fifteen days.
I was delighted, but also wondered if this was merely a fluke, so for science (haha) I placed a second order:
Before I start with my September Glam Bag, I just wanted to provide an update on my missing Ipsy bag from August. When August 23 rolled around, I noticed that Landmark tracking said it was delivered on the 17th but I had never received it. I contacted Ipsy and they immediately sent out a new bag for me, which arrived by the end of the month. I was super happy with their customer service—the bag was exactly what I was supposed to get, except for an item from theBalm which they replaced with a different item from the same brand. I will have to save the extra items for a giveaway.
Well, it turns out that earlier this month, my original Ipsy bag arrived! So much for Landmark’s tracking, huh? (I’ve had an issue with them before on a Julep order—Julep were similarly wonderful and quickly sent a new package; the original has never turned up.) I’d never heard of this Landmark company until this year; suddenly I’m getting more packages from the US handled by them. They also never responded to my inquiries regarding my lost Julep package. Hrmph.
Anyway, September’s Ipsy Glam Bag (referral link) arrived in good time (well, the 19th, which is a little later than usual but I did have a points redemption item in the mix, too).

It’s been such a long time since I’ve had to even think about “Back to School,” which is usually the day after Labo(u)r Day in North America. But today, Peanut started his first day of a full preschool year (he started preschool earlier this year, mid-term). We packed him up with all his school supplies, and he was so excited to go back and see his teachers and friends!
I hope those of you who are going back to school today—both students and staff—have an awesome day!
I’m just looking forward to having practically a whole day to little Olive and myself, since Peanut’s off for the full day this year.
I will absolutely be getting back to nail polish swatches this week, though they’ll have to be the darker shades since one of my nails is peeling, boo.
So, today, I’m reviewing the cute little lip balm that has been sitting above my keyboard: It’S SKIN Macaron Lip Balm in the Green Apple flavor.
It’S SKIN is a Korean beauty brand that generally focuses on skincare, though they also have a makeup line. Their Macaron Lip Balm is the first of their products I’ve tried, and who can blame me when this is the packaging?
As an aside, it’s been hard finding good macarons in Toronto. I haven’t tried too many (I mean, I don’t need all those extra calories), but the best ones I’ve had so far are at Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie in the Distillery. Anyone have any recommendations for better ones? The absolute best macarons I’ve ever had were at the most beautiful little coffee shop in Avignon (I think), so I’m almost definitely not getting to have those ever again!
I forgot to snap pics of the macarons, but here were some other sweet things we had at Cluny last month:
