China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Crown for Whatever, swatch

China Glaze — Crown for Whatever (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: China Glaze 2017 Fall, Happily Never After (Halloween)

I don’t usually pick up mattes, but Crown for Whatever from China Glaze’s recently released Halloween-themed collection still caught my eye. (I’ve previously reviewed Queen, Please! and Sin-derella from this collection.)

Crown for Whatever (84083) is a deep, indigo purple with extremely subtle, fine fuchsia shimmer. It dries matte. I am not usually a huge fan of the matte look, but this one is quite striking and I probably the first matte I’d consider wearing without a glossy top coat over it!

Bourjois So Laque Glossy Nail Enamel in Amande défilé, swatch

Bourjois — Amande défilé (So Laque Glossy Nail Enamel) Swatch & Review

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

Here’s the trailer to my new favorite Irish movie, Sing Street, which I mini-reviewed last month:

Brand: Bourjois

I tried Bourjois’ So Laque Nail Enamel many years ago, having picked one up on a trip to England. They’ve changed the product name slightly, but it’s still under the “So Laque” line and comes in the same bottle. Finally, last year, I got a new So Laque from Shoppers Drug Mart.

Amande défilé (04)—which translates to the lovely idea of an “almond parade”, and not anything to do with defiling!—is a beautiful pistachio green cream, very soft and the perfect kind of pastel to me—that is, with a base that isn’t too chalky white.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Black and Blue layered over Tropic Thunder, swatch

Sally Hansen — Black and Blue (Complete Salon Manicure) Swatch & Review

Brand: Sally Hansen

Don’t be fooled by the swatch above! Today’s shade is Black and Blue (580) from Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure line, and it’s actually a very sheer topper. The photo above shows one coat of Black and Blue over two coats of Tropic Thunder, a vampy blue cream from the same product line.

Here’s the bottle of Black and Blue. It’s a very sheer, light teal blue shimmer with purple iridescence. Gorgeous, right?

It’s also sheer as heck, which makes it a fine topper, but don’t buy it thinking it’s going to look just like it does in the bottle. Here it is, alone, with two coats:

Ciaté Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar

Ciaté — Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar: Part I (December 1–16) Swatch & Review

Apologies for the late post today. Photobucket is having major upload/delete issues, and I am not getting any useful feedback from them! Well, that, and…Christmas!

Collection: Ciaté 2015 Winter, Mini Mani Month

I received the Ciaté Mini Mani Month Advent Calendar as a gift last month, and I meant to post about it by the week in December, but obviously things have gotten too hectic!

So, now I’m in a rush to get these babies all swatched up before Christmas is actually upon us! It’s just crazy how as a kid, I got so excited for Christmas, and it seemed like a week would go by like a whole year. Now, as an adult and having to prepare Christmas for the family (who can be a little ungrateful at times, or is it just me? Ha! I kid. Mostly it’s just the peanut batting at ornaments when he knows he’s not supposed to…), it seems like Christmas sneaks up and jumps on me before I even realize it’s not November anymore.

Calvin & Hobbes, Hobbes jumping on Calvin

Here we are in the middle of December, nine days from Christmas, and instead of cleaning house, preparing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals, buying booze, and enjoying time with the family, I’m furiously swatching Ciatés for the blog!

As an overall note, these are all Ciaté mini bottles (there is one full-sized bottle in the Advent Calendar, but it’s reserved for the 24th), which hold 5 mL. The brush is a proper, full-sized brush: slightly thick and flat, and easy to handle. Ciaté definitely makes one of the nicer mini bottles!

And off we go! Ciaté Mini Manis for Dec. 1–16:

Dec. 1: Heirloom (PPM116)

Stunning in the bottle: a fine glitter with raspberry plum, antique gold, and a splash of deep bottle green iridescence. On the nail, it’s desperately sheer and needs at least three coats to get a bit of color on. This is probably awesome layered over a deeper shade; I’ll have to try it over black!

Banila Co. Fall in Love Tomorrow Twin Nail in Garosu Feminine

Banila Co. — Garosu Feminine (Fall in Love Tomorrow Twin Nail) Swatch & Review

Collection: Banila Co. 2015 Fall, Fall in Love Tomorrow Twin Nail

I’ve been picking up Korean nail polishes here and there, since I’m new to those products and I love to try new brands. So far, I’ve reviewed Etude House and Missha polishes on my blog, and I recently got in some more from Banila Co. and Innisfree.

Today, I’m reviewing a duo set from Banila Co., released this fall in their “Fall in Love” collection. One of their usual nail polish lines is called Tomorrow Nails, and this collection introduced three Twin sets of two Tomorrow Nail shades. The one I chose is Garosu Feminine, which includes one sheer pink with gold sparkle, and one poppy cream.

I didn’t buy the vampies! Imagine that.

Happy Canada Day! Canadian Products by Cocoon Apothecary and Coco & Lulu (by Cake Beauty) Swatch & Review

Featured Image: livingbetweenwednesdays.com

Firstly, Happy Canada Day to all those in the great white north! Canada is celebrating its 148th birthday today. I didn’t grow up in Canada, exactly (if anyone’s ever wondered why I don’t spell the Canadian/British way, this is why), but I’ve spent the vast majority of my adult years here and I could not be happier to be raising my baby son in this country.

Secondly, I apologize for reviewing a recently discontinued line of nail polish today, but it’s the only Canadian brand from which I own a red polish!

But, I am reviewing two Canadian products today, and the second product is by Cocoon Apothecary, which is definitely available! It is currently also 25% off at Well.ca (referral link, sale runs through this Sunday).

Brand: Coco & Lulu (by Cake Beauty)

I’ll cover the nail polish first. Coco & Lulu was a line of 3 Free Nail Lacquer created in 2013 by Toronto-based Cake Beauty for the Canadian books & lifestyle chain, Indigo/Chapters. I’m not 100% sure that the line is dead, but Indigo/Chapters no longer sells it online, and the line’s Twitter hasn’t been updated since, well, 2013.

The set a Paris-themed holiday release, which I bought the following January, for $14 on clearance. It included three colors: Champagne, Eiffel Tower, and Left Bank. I’ll review Eiffel Tower another day, but my Canada Day mani this year is Left Bank + Champagne.
