It’S SKIN — Macaron Lip Balm in Green Apple Review

It’s been such a long time since I’ve had to even think about “Back to School,” which is usually the day after Labo(u)r Day in North America. But today, Peanut started his first day of a full preschool year (he started preschool earlier this year, mid-term). We packed him up with all his school supplies, and he was so excited to go back and see his teachers and friends!

I hope those of you who are going back to school today—both students and staff—have an awesome day!

I’m just looking forward to having practically a whole day to little Olive and myself, since Peanut’s off for the full day this year.

I will absolutely be getting back to nail polish swatches this week, though they’ll have to be the darker shades since one of my nails is peeling, boo.

So, today, I’m reviewing the cute little lip balm that has been sitting above my keyboard: It’S SKIN Macaron Lip Balm in the Green Apple flavor.

It’S SKIN is a Korean beauty brand that generally focuses on skincare, though they also have a makeup line. Their Macaron Lip Balm is the first of their products I’ve tried, and who can blame me when this is the packaging?

As an aside, it’s been hard finding good macarons in Toronto. I haven’t tried too many (I mean, I don’t need all those extra calories), but the best ones I’ve had so far are at Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie in the Distillery. Anyone have any recommendations for better ones? The absolute best macarons I’ve ever had were at the most beautiful little coffee shop in Avignon (I think), so I’m almost definitely not getting to have those ever again!

I forgot to snap pics of the macarons, but here were some other sweet things we had at Cluny last month:

fivezero's beautyBOUTIQUE Haulage (March 2017)

Haulage! beautyBOUTIQUE by Shoppers Drug Mart (March–April 2017)

I never did get around to posting my beautyBOUTIQUE hauls (gotta love those Shoppers Drug Mart coupons and Optimum Points events!), so I’m combining five of them into one post.

Perhaps these will provide some inspiration for Mother’s Day gifts? Speaking of which, today was a special day for me because I received my first ever Mother’s Day gift from our little peanut!

Behold (the peanut clip art is covering his name):

fivezero's 2017 Mother's Day Gift from peanut

I am totally wearing that necklace on Sunday.

Anyway, here’s my fairly reasonable damage! All prices are in CA$.

Orders 1–2

First up, I received two $10 off coupons for beautyBOUTIQUE.ca when I was buying stuff at Shoppers Drug Mart. Cool. Of course, I had to use them on two orders:

Preventive Measures 101 Lips 101 After Hours Lip Balm

Preventive Measures 101 — Lips 101 After Hours Lip Balm Review

I haven’t been doing empties posts at all, since I am pretty slow at getting through my products and I also generally hate keeping empty packages around for photographing.

But I have definitely been trying to use up more products—which means less product rotation, which I am generally very fond of doing!

Lip balms are one of those products that I always rotate, though, but not so much in the sense that I deliberately choose to use different ones. I just keep a lip balm in many different places, so I end up having almost ten lip balms on the go. For example, I have one at my desk, one in the bathroom, one in the stroller, one in each handbag (and I…uh…I have a lot of handbags), and one at my bedside table.

The two I use up fastest are the ones at my desk and in the bathroom. I most recently finished up the one at my desk, which I got in an Ipsy bag last fall and is by Preventive Measures 101.

Can you believe it? I finished up a product! Huzzah!

They make both a lip balm with SPF 30 and another without, which is the one I received.

Haulage! Drugstores & Cosmetic Love (Oct 2016 & Feb–Mar 2017)

Finally, everyone in the household is on the road to recovery! I managed to stay relatively illness-free, except for once when I think I might have given myself food poisoning and had an upset stomach for a night. We were all so overwhelmed over the last week and a half that my husband actually had to remind me that we forgot about our 17th wedding anniversary over the weekend.

I should really get my computer to remind me about stuff like this.

So, we celebrated last night with some dinner delivered and half a movie (The Nice Guys, if you’re interested—and that’s how we have to roll nowadays, early to bed). Plus, we’ll add a li’l anniversary money to our fun budgets!

Speaking of fun budgets, here’s some stuff I hauled over the last couple of months from drugstores. And I’m including some stuff I got from Cosmetic Love late last year, but totally forgot about under my desk.

Haulage! beautyBOUTIQUE.ca by Shoppers Drug Mart (March 2017)

Well, my husband and I have basically spent the last several days cleaning up vomit, snot, and poop. Thanks, norovirus! Seriously, neither of us ever got this horrible bug until a few years ago, and suddenly it’s an annual thing. Of course, now that Peanut’s in preschool, life is an apocalypse movie every other weekend, too.

At this point, everyone has gotten sick but me, so I’m running on very little sleep and very little food (because I’m afraid I’m going to come down with symptoms soon and would rather not have to puke it all back). I’ve also been washing my hands a hundred times a day, so it’s eczema city on my hands, too. I sincerely hope you are all keeping healthy, because this sucks.

Here’s a haul post, because I haven’t been able to find the will to do very much else!

As I mentioned last week, Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada has been handing out $10 gift cards to their online beauty store, beautyBOUTIQUE, and well—I’ve been taking advantage.

Today and tomorrow, March 7–8, Shoppers are also running a Spend Your Points Plus promo in the form of a coupon you load onto your Optimum Card. I do not know whether this works online at beautyBOUTIQUE (their Twitter staff didn’t seem to know), but I redeemed my points, anyway, since I kind of wanted to use up the third $10 gift card I got. If the points don’t get added later on, I’ll just give the beautyBOUTIQUE people a shout to see if they’ll give me the bonus points.

Here’s what I hauled after redeeming 95k points. I spent CA$184, so in the end I paid $4 plus the tax on $184, which came to just under $27. Also, don’t forget that ebates.ca works with beautyBOUTIQUE, too! It’s 4% cashback today.

Haulage! The Body Shop Post-Holiday Sale (January 2017)

I’ve been AWOL for a while! Apologies—I’m sure we’ve all been terribly busy with the start of the new year, and it’s been the same for me.

Here’s a quick post to remind you all that The Body Shop has clearanced their holiday products and (I presume) newly discontinued items, and the sales are pretty good! I know I like to complain about their products, as quite a lot I’ve tried aren’t all that great, but damn it’s hard to beat a good sale, isn’t it? And, they do have some gems here and there.

I placed two orders, one yesterday and another today when they reduced some prices even more. Plus, I have the Love Your Body 10% discount, which expires in May, so I should take advantage of it as much as I can. I don’t expect to renew the card this year.

Here’s the combined haulage:

Vanilla Chai Body Butter, Body Scrub, & Lip Balm

Vanilla Chai is a holiday limited edition scent, and I love it! This smells to me like a sweet chai with loads of vanilla. I don’t really get the eggnog vibe that some people are talking about—I definitely get chai. I know this because last year, I ordered the Body Butter, then totally forgot what scent I ordered when I slathered it on. I instantly thought, “This smells like sweet chai!” and not, “Mmm, eggnog.” And I love eggnog. A scent for next Christmas, perhaps?

The Body Shop Body Scrub in Vanilla Chai

The Body Shop Lip Balm in Vanilla Chai

I don’t like the Lip Butters I’ve tried; hopefully this one will be better since it is called Lip Balm and comes in a tin. At least I know I’ll like the scent!
