Yves Rocher Botanical Colour Nail Polish in Mint / Menthe

Yves Rocher — Mint / Menthe (Botanical Colour Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Yves Rocher 2015 Summer, Botanical Colour Nail Polish [Launch]

So, I’ve been completely smitten by Yves Rocher’s new line of Botanical Colour Nail Polish and I’ve taken advantage of their many sales and ordered even more colors. I mean, they end up coming in at around CA$3 a pop. What’s not to love?

Today, I’m reviewing Mint / Menthe (71). It’s a surprisingly dusty shade of pastel green, with a subtle jade tone. I’m kind of in love.

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Mintilicious

Rimmel — Mintilicious (60 Seconds Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Brand: Rimmel

I’ll be honest—this is the first Rimmel nail polish I have bought in many years! The last ones were probably the Underground Play Fast collection from 2007. They were awesome polishes (definitely doing them for Throwback Thursday sometime!).

However, recent reviews I’ve seen for the new Rita Ora collections have not been glowing.

But since I hadn’t tried Rimmel in such a long time, I thought I’d pick one up. I mean, they’re pretty cheap (~C$3), and I think the little bottles are really cute, anyway. I goofed, though, and picked up a color from the core collection instead of one from a Rita Ora collection. Pretty dumb, considering the Rita Oras have Rita Ora stickers on their caps, and the core colors have Union Jack stickers. I guess I really liked the color!

Essie Nail Polish in Fashion Playground

Essie — Fashion Playground (Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Essie Spring 2013

Essie calls Fashion Playground a “pistachio green shimmer”. Honestly, the shimmer is very subtle and this reads more like a cream. The shimmer is in the form of clear microsparkles, when you can see them. They do give the polish a little more dimension, though, which is not a bad thing.

We’ve seen loads of light green polishes over the last several years. Fashion Playground is a little different from the usual white-mint green in that it’s a touch muted, and reminds me of a pastelized arsenic green.

Application’s thin and a little tricky, fairly typical of a pastel. I used three coats, but you could ostensibly use four. Once it’s on, though, it looks great!

Essie Nail Polish retails for US$8.50 / CA$9.99–$10.99 and is 0.46 US fl oz / 13.5 mL. The polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). It is made in the USA.

Essie Cosmetics, founded in 1981, is based in Westfield NJ, USA. In 2010, Essie was acquired by the L’Oréal Group.

Hard Candy Nail Color (20th Anniversary) in Mint

Hard Candy — Mint (20th Anniversary Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Hard Candy, Summer 2015, 20th Anniversary

This week, I’m reviewing the five Hard Candy 20th Anniversary Nail Colors I recently bought. The packaging for this collection is a throwback to the old school Hard Candy polish bottles, and it was the main reason I was keen to pick them up! The five I got are Claws Up!, Coconut, Mint, Scam (all re-releases from the original polishes), and Zombie (one of three new shades).

Today’s review is for Mint, one of the five re-released shades in the collection. It’s a pale, pastel mint green with subtle shimmer.

Haulage! Hard Candy 20th Anniversary Collection & Comparison with Older Bottles

Collection: Hard Candy, Summer 2015, 20th Anniversary

Wal-Mart isn’t someplace I shop at very often. I’m not a fan of their business practices, and anyway, the nearest location is not really easy for me to get to these days. But of course, the nail polish fanatic in me just had to make a trip over to see if I could get my grubby hands on Hard Candy‘s 20th Anniversary Collection. (Hard Candy makeup is available online on Wal-Mart’s US and Canadian websites, but not this limited edition collection.)

Back in the 1990s, Hard Candy was priced like a mid-to-high end brand; for nail polish, it was positively expensive for a college student! I picked up a few of their polishes here and there via sales, eBay, and swapping. They were awesome colors, even if the formula was not actually super fantastic. Plus, they came with cute little color-coordinated rings, and Alicia Silverstone wore it, and Hard Candy was a pretty big deal.

Fast forward to the 10s and Hard Candy is now exclusively sold at Wal-Mart. Whaaaa?

To be fair, I never thought the Hard Candy makeup I tried (some eyeshadows and lip stuff) were especially good quality. It was all funky colors, glitter, cool packaging, and hype. So perhaps they have done well to re-position themselves as a low-end, mass-market brand appealing to teens.

Once they made the move to Wal-Mart, the entire line was revamped. The nail polish is currently packaged in cheap-looking little cylinders. Very boring.

But, earlier this year, Hard Candy celebrated their 20th Anniversary and dutifully released a collection of 8 polishes packaged in their original square bottles! Retailing for $4! WITH the cool little rings! And 5 of the colors are from the original collection! As a 90s girl, I say AAAAAAAAH!

So now I’m kicking myself for waiting until now to get over to Wally World. Luckily, they still had the display up, and the rings, which are (not very well-)sealed to the bottle, were all still attached. I was able to get five colors, but not Sky, which made Hard Candy hugely popular when it was worn by Alicia Silverstone on The Late Show with David Letterman. 😥

butter LONDON — High Tea Set…er, Part Deux (3 Free Nail Lacquer)

Collection: butter LONDON Spring 2015, High Tea

butter LONDON 3 Free Nail Lacquer High Tea Set

In March, I posted swatches of the four Nail Lacquers in butter LONDON’s High Tea Set: Green Fairy, High Tea, Ruby Murray, & Tiddly.

I’ve just been going through and editing a backlog of photos I’ve taken over the last few months, and I found a bunch of photos from this particular set that I’d neglected to post, so here they are. I’ll just reiterate here how much I adore all of the colors in this collection, and that BL’s mini bottles are amazeballs!

butter LONDON — High Tea Set: Ruby Murray, High Tea, Tiddly, & Green Fairy (3 Free Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Sale Alert: Today only (March 23, 2015), butter LONDON (not affiliated) is offering select lacquers at US$7.50 each, with the code HAUL323. They only ship to the UK and USA at this time.

Canadians can now order from butter LONDON Canada (not affiliated), which is not running this sale, as far as I can see.

Collection: butter LONDON Spring 2015, High Tea

butter LONDON 3 Free Nail Lacquer High Tea Set

I just picked up the new spring High Tea 4-piece mini lacquer set from butter LONDON, and I am really, really loving it! It comes with four mini sized nail lacquers from their High Tea collection (it doesn’t include Cheers!, Kip, and Sloane Ranger):

  • Ruby Murray, a deep cranberry sauce cream
  • High Tea, a sophisticated beige cream
  • Tiddly, a bright coral pastel cream
  • Green Fairy (set exclusive, also available briefly from their website earlier this month), a correction-fluid mint green cream

The packaging is utterly adorable and each 6 mL polish is very like a small version of the full sized (11 mL) polish, right down to the rectangular outer cap and the little bird logo on the inner, ridged round cap. The brush is the same size, as well. This is how minis should be done!
