Julep Nail Color in Signe, swatch

Julep — Signe (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Julep 2017 Summer, June “Bask In the Heat”

I didn’t realize it before, but I really ended up with a lot of the shades from Julep’s June 2017 collection: Elsie, Kaitlyn, Marisol, and today’s polish, Signe. I’m only missing Fran, a hot red cream, and Jaydra, a sheer pink-mauve holographic. Think I’ll have to pick them up along the way; Julep has a tendency to discontinue shades (“back in the vault,” as they like to call it), though they do bring them back on occasion.

Signe is described as a “Red-Hot Coral Shimmer.” I have to warn you that this shade actually photographs brighter than it looks in real life. It’s still quite vibrant, but it’s not so fully saturated as it appears in my swatches.

I also find that it pulls more orange than coral-pink, at least on my hands. This is disappointing, as I hoped for the picture color! But on me in actuality, it’s a reddish-orange, like a persimmon, with gold shimmer. It’s still pretty, but it’s not what I expected. Worse, the photos really make it look quite different!

Julep — Marisol (Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Julep 2017 Summer, June “Bask In the Heat”

Here’s the other Julep polish I chose in my first Maven Box.

The Spanish name Marisol is a shortening of Maria de la Soledad (Mary of Solitude), referencing the Virgin Mary. In English, I see a combination of marigold (derived from Mary, as well) and sun (Latin sol), so it definitely gives me a misconception of golden yellow. Presumably, the polish namers at Julep thought so, too, because Julep describes Marisol as a “Golden Amber Metallic.”

L'Oréal Colour Riche Le Vernis à l'Huile in Coral Trianon, swatch

L’Oréal — Coral Trianon (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

Just a quick note to everyone: Sephora (at least on the Canadian site) is currently discounting selected Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss and eye shadow. The lip glosses on sale are shown ($11, reg. $21); the eye shadows do not have a special sale section yet, and you have to click on the individual shades to see the discount ($8, reg $16).

I found that if I bought 8 shadows and 2 empty eyeshadow palettes, I was able to get the $13 discount for regular-priced eye shadows! So go check it out. Here’s my damage, by the way. So glad I didn’t splurge on these during the VIB sale! [By the way, it was pointed out that if I had just placed 2 separate orders of 4 shadows and 1 palette, I would have gotten $13 off each order! That works out better even if you pay for shipping, and you get 2x freebies. D’oh!]

Also, don’t forget ebates.ca (referral link) with 8% cash back today, and Sephora has really good codes now for multiple samples: SUNVIBES for VIB/VIB Rouge, SUNSOUT for Beauty Insiders.

[Thanks to this reddit post for the heads-up.]

FYI, the sale eye shadows are:

  • China Rose (Metallic)
  • Dark Chocolate Shimmer (Shimmer)
  • Fawn (Matte)
  • Gem (Satin)
  • Gold Rush (Metallic)
  • Mermaid (Metallic)
  • Sateen (Metallic)
  • Smoke (Matte)
  • Soft Gold (Metallic)

Happy Shopping! And now, back to your regularly scheduled program:

Collection: L’Oréal Summer 2016, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer [Launch]

L’Oréal launched Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes in Canada last summer, and I’ve fallen deeply in love with this drugstore line.

Coral Trianon (442) is from the original launch, and it’s a superbly rich and juicy coral orange cream. It has a teeny touch of white to brighten it up nicely. The pigmentation is fantastic, especially for a drugstore brand.

trianon, by the way is a small villa, like a châlet, especially one that is situated on a larger ground, like the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon (big and small) at the Palace of Versailles.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Zahara, swatch

Zoya — Zahara (Professional Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Zoya 2016 Spring, Petals

I posted three nail polish swatches on Monday in a 3 Spring Favorites post, and today I’m reviewing one of them.

Zahara (ZP838) is described by Zoya as a “brilliant shimmering coral made modern with an opalescent effect”. It’s from Zoya’s 2016 Petals collection, which included four shades with shimmery, glass flecked finishes. I love a glass fleck effect (some of China Glaze’s older ones are particularly stunning) so I bought three of the shades.

I describe Zahara as a gentle, translucent pinked peach with a mixture of pink and silver glass fleck shimmer. It is semi-opaque.

[Incidentally, Zahara is not the last of all Zoya’s polishes, alphabetically! There are not one, not two, but at least seven Zoya polishes that come after Zahara, though some are discontinued. Zoya’s Z polishes are: Zahara, Zanna, Zara, Ziv, Zoe, Zooey, Zsa Zsa, and Zuza. I’m waiting on Zelda and Zinnia… Seriously, how have they not done Zelda, yet? Or Zoya, for that matter? I guess the owner is a modest woman!]

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Tulle, swatch

Chanel — Tulle (Le Vernis Longwear) Swatch & Review

Collection: Chanel 2017 Spring, Rouge Coco Gloss

Tulle (568), from one of Chanel’s Spring 2017 collections, is not the same as an old (circa 2004) Chanel polish with the same name, which was apparently a pink shimmer. The new Tulle, in Chanel’s new Le Vernis Longwear line, is a pastel apricot cream.

It’s totally my kind of shade: a clean blush peach with just a pinch of pink. I picked it up very recently from beautyBOUTIQUE.

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Pumpkin Spice, swatch

Trust Fund Beauty — Pumpkin Spice (Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Brand: Trust Fund Beauty

After trying my first Trust Fund Beauty nail polish, Champagne Socialite, I was pretty smitten and took advantage of a 35% off Ipsy coupon code to order some more. Later, I saw that Ipsy released a second coupon for 40% off, so now I have a lot of Trust Fund Beauty polishes to swatch.

Ordering from Trust Fund Beauty, from Canada

For Canadians, TFB ship from Canada, so you only have to pay Québec tax and shipping costs—no customs fees. I believe they have warehouses in the US (and their website pricing is all in USD), so US orders ship from within that country.

Haulage from Trust Fund Beauty

For order #1, I used an Ipsy code for 35% off. I ordered one full-sized polish (17 mL) and one set of six minis (3 mL each):

  • Resting Bitch Face (full-sized; couldn’t not get this for the name!)
  • Got Yacht? (mini)
  • I Give Good Tweet (mini)
  • Game Changer (mini)
  • Major Eye Roll (mini)
  • Champagne Problems (mini)
  • Denim with Diamonds (mini)

The polishes all come in paper boxes. This is the only actual complaint—and it’s a very minor one—that I have with TFB: while their bottles and brushes are very nice, the boxes and sticker labels on the bottom of the bottles seem a bit cheap. I normally keep my polish boxes (like for Chanel, Illamasqua, etc.) but I tossed the TFB boxes. The print on them is cute, but the boxes just look a bit disheveled after being opened, and they’re not terribly sturdy, anyway. The minis are also too small for the box they come in, so they’re just sliding around in there.
