Happy Nail Polish Day! L’Oréal — Bleu Nu (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Spring 2018, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer

Happy Nail Polish Day, everyone!

I am still reeling from the effects of watching the series finale of one of my very favorite shows of the last decade, The Americans. (It aired on Wednesday, but Mr. Fivezero and I didn’t have time to watch it until last night.) It was the best series ending I’ve seen for…I don’t even know how long. It was brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, brilliantly directed. It’s gut-wrenching, haunting, and the show remained true to itself to the very last frame. I cannot recommend this series enough, if you were not lucky enough to have watched it from the beginning.

Anyway, onto the polish! This is my first nail polish swatch in eons. Pardon my cuticles.

Bleu Nu (442) is a newer release in L’Oréal’s fantastic line of Colour Riche Vernis à l’Huile nail polishes. I spotted it in stores earlier in the spring, but didn’t feel like ponying up $11.99 for a couple of bottles. Luckily for me, I did manage to pick up two from the collection on clearance last month. I got Bleu Nu, Sable Tuileries, and I thought I was getting Rouge Opéra, the red from the collection, but it was just Rouge Amour which I already owned. D’oh! Ah well, can you ever have enough red creams?

This one is a deeper, electric blue shimmer. My favorite thing about this shade is that it should seem flashier, but actually it has an elegance to it. Really quite nice, though probably fairly easily duped elsewhere.

L’Oréal — Coral Trianon (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

SALE ALERT

Just a quick note to everyone: Sephora (at least on the Canadian site) is currently discounting selected Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss and eye shadow. The lip glosses on sale are shown ($11, reg. $21); the eye shadows do not have a special sale section yet, and you have to click on the individual shades to see the discount ($8, reg $16).

I found that if I bought 8 shadows and 2 empty eyeshadow palettes, I was able to get the $13 discount for regular-priced eye shadows! So go check it out. Here’s my damage, by the way. So glad I didn’t splurge on these during the VIB sale! [By the way, it was pointed out that if I had just placed 2 separate orders of 4 shadows and 1 palette, I would have gotten $13 off each order! That works out better even if you pay for shipping, and you get 2x freebies. D’oh!]

Also, don’t forget ebates.ca (referral link) with 8% cash back today, and Sephora has really good codes now for multiple samples: SUNVIBES for VIB/VIB Rouge, SUNSOUT for Beauty Insiders.

Collection: L’Oréal Summer 2016, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer [Launch]

L’Oréal launched Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes in Canada last summer, and I’ve fallen deeply in love with this drugstore line.

Coral Trianon (442) is from the original launch, and it’s a superbly rich and juicy coral orange cream. It has a teeny touch of white to brighten it up nicely. The pigmentation is fantastic, especially for a drugstore brand.

trianon, by the way is a small villa, like a châlet, especially one that is situated on a larger ground, like the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon (big and small) at the Palace of Versailles.

L'Oréal Colour Riche Le Vernis à l'Huile in Nymphea, swatch

L’Oréal — Nymphea (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Summer 2016, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer [Launch]

L’Oréal launched Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes in Canada last summer, and I’ve fallen deeply in love with this drugstore line.

Nymphea (226) is from the original launch, and it’s not the usual sort of thing I go for, but I dig these polishes so much that it’s got me buying the hot pinks! This is a surprisingly wearable fuchsia cream, with both cool and warm tones so I think it actually looks pretty decent on me! This will be perfection for a summer mani or pedi.

I’ve liked the application for all of these polishes that I’ve tried, but this one is especially good! It’s probably almost as good as the formula for Rouge Sauvage (red creams tend to apply very well). Two coats gives perfect, even coverage.

This polish is scented, and when dry it has that unique L’Oréal lipstick fragrance.

These polishes are pretty much priced like Essie (both owned by L’Oréal), at CA$9.99 vs. a buck or two more for Essie in Canada. When they go on sale, the prices are essentially the same. If you like a wider paddle brush, these are definitely a superior option to Essie’s polishes, which have slender, rounded brushes.

L’Oréal — Vert Époque (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Spring 2017, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer

L’Oréal launched Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes in Canada last summer, and I’ve fallen deeply in love with this drugstore line. I’m happy to report that they’ve released several new shades for the spring, and while I haven’t been able to find all of them in stores by me—I’ve only seen two or three, one being a plain black cream, Noir Noir—I did manage to pick up one lonely new shade.

Here’s Vert Époque (770), a gorgeous midtoned turquoise cream. It’s bright enough to be spring-y, yet subdued enough to be effortlessly chic. This could very well be my new pedi shade for the spring!

The shade name literally means “green era/epoch”, though I’m unsure whether there’s a more specific meaning in French.

L'Oréal Colour Riche Le Vernis à l'Huile in Greige Amoureux, swatch

L’Oréal — Greige Amoureux (Colour Riche Le Vernis à l’Huile) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Summer 2016, Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquer [Launch]

Since L’Oréal’s Le Vernis à l’Huile polishes launched in Canada last summer, I’ve accumulated—how do I say this elegantly—a metric buttload of them. Yes, I kind of love these polishes! The formula is one of the best in the drugstore, the colors are lush and trendy, and the bottle is pretty as a jewel.

Here’s Greige Amoureux (664), one of the original launch colors. It’s a beautiful taupe grey cream that dries on the nail a shade or so deeper than the color in the bottle. It’s a bit of a shame, as I think I prefer the bottle color, but it still remains a very chic grey.

Time to ‘fess up: over the last month, L’Oréal’s Le Vernis à l’Huile Nail Lacquers have been going on sale, and I’ve splurged—especially since they’ve released some new spring shades, as well.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Deliciously Shiny Nail Colour in Denim Jacket, swatch

Guerlain — Denim Jacket (La Petite Robe Noire Deliciously Shiny Nail Colour) Swatch & Review

Collection: Guerlain Summer 2016

Earlier this year, Guerlain released La Petite Robe Noire Deliciously Shiny Nail Colour, the polish in the adorable bottles with the ridiculously long product name. The first shade I tried was Black Perfecto, and you can read a more detailed review of this polish line in that post.

Over the summer, Guerlain released a new limited edition shade, Denim Jacket (008), and I picked it up during one of Shoppers Drug Mart’s Spend Your Points events. It’s the sweetest soft blue cream, barely light enough to qualify as a pastel, with hints of powdery grey and cornflower.

Paired with the shimmery pink My First Nail Polish and you have the perfect set for a baby shower!
