Claire's Nail Polish in Party Like a Unicorn, swatch

Claire’s — Party Like a Unicorn (Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Claire’s 2017, Unicorn PWR

It has been ages since I bought anything from Claire’s, the girls’ jewelry and accessories store that seems ubiquitous in North American malls. (I just took a peek at their Wikipedia page and it turns out that they may be fairly ubiquitous in European malls, too! Are there many malls in Europe? There are some photos of standalone Claire’s stores in the UK and France on that page—it’s hard for me to process a Claire’s that does not reside in a mall!)

In any case, I stopped into my local Claire’s on a whim a little before Halloween to check out their nail polishes. To my surprise, there wasn’t much in the way of seasonal collections, but I did spot emoji and unicorn collections, so I snagged 6 of them. The deal was buy 3, get 3 free; for a while, I considered just getting two polishes, but then I would only be one away from three free ones, so obviously I got suckered into the whole shebang.

Claire’s polishes are pricier than I remember, but I guess it’s been probably at least five years since I’ve shopped here. The special collection colors were also a little more expensive at CA$7 instead of the regular CA$5.50.

Today, I have one from the unicorn collection, Unicorn PWRParty Like a Unicorn (21780) is described as a “rose gold shimmer.” It’s actually a sheer, medium rose pink shimmer with gold shimmer/microglitter. Still pretty, but not technically like rose gold.

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Queen, Please!, swatch

China Glaze — Queen, Please! (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: China Glaze 2017 Fall, Happily Never After (Halloween)

2017-10-27 EDIT: I’ve layered Queen, Please! over Crown for Whatever, and added the swatch photos at the end of this review. Worth it.

This is another stunner from China Glaze’s recently released Halloween-themed collection. I’ve previously reviewed Sin-derella, which is drop dead gorgeous.

Queen, Please! (84079) is a sheer but extremely shimmery, pale pinked champagne microglitter with a golden mint flash.

L'Oréal Colour Riche Nail Color in Tweet Me, swatch

L’Oréal — Tweet Me (Colour Riche Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: L’Oréal Spring 2012, Colour Riche Nail Color

I originally swatched this for a Throwback Thursday post, but then I realized it’s not quite old enough, being from a 2012 collection. So, here it is on a Tuesday!

Tweet Me (101) is an adorable canary yellow with golden shimmer. It is, most unfortunately, on the sheer side.

The name is, obviously, inspired by social media site Twitter, and should you wish to do as the polish says, click here.

Chanel, Le Vernis Longwear in Blanc White, swatch

Chanel — Blanc White (Le Vernis Longwear) Swatch & Review

Collection: Chanel 2017 Spring, Coco Codes

Chanel’s Spring 2017 Coco Codes collection includes basic colors of nail polish in black (Black Métamorphosis, a tinted top coat), red (Rouge Red), beige (Beige Beige), and white (Blanc White):

When beautyBOUTIQUE was running a sale, I picked up Blanc White (548), which is really more off-white than “white white”. It’s a semi-sheer ivory with a delicate, pearly finish. (I’m not sure why Chanel’s promo pic has it looking so very pink-beige!)

It’s a beautifully classic and conservative shade—really not my kind of thing at all! Ha! But as far as pretty, pale pearl polishes go, it’s really nice.

ILNP Boutique Nail Lacquer in Valentina, swatch

ILNP — Valentina (Boutique Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Brand: ILNP

I don’t often review indie brands, since I don’t buy them very much. But I recently dipped my toes a little deeper into the indie pond and picked up my first ILNP (I Love Nail Polish, of course! Fab name!), inspired by Gym Bag Makeup’s review last year.

Valentina is completely stunning in the bottle: a light robin’s egg blue with a strong pink flash. The shimmer is very fine and the formula appears sheer.

The packaging is very nice: the bottle is sleek and the box is a great touch. It’s the kind of polish box I do keep! The shade name is also handily stickered on top of the box.

Pure Ice Shine with Gel Tech Nail Polish in Good Glistener, swatch

Pure Ice — Good Glistener (Shine with Gel Tech Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Pure Ice 2016, Shine with Gel Tech Nail Polish [Launch]

Pure Ice, a brand developed with and exclusive to Walmart, is one that I haven’t tried very much in the past. I think I may have owned one or two before I recently bought this one.

Shine with Gel Tech Nail Polish is their newer line of nail polish. I believe their regular Nail Color line is still available, but it’s not on Walmart Canada’s website.

Good Glistener (1280) is a semi-opaque light taupe with gold shimmer.

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Seas and Greetings, swatch

China Glaze — Seas and Greetings (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: China Glaze 2016 Winter, Seas & Greetings

I recently picked up a 6-pack of minis from China Glaze’s Holiday 2016 collection, Seas & Greetings.

(Seas & Greetings holiday 2016 collection)

The eponymous Seas and Greetings (83781, though the mini has a different code) is a semi-sheer grape with pink shimmer.

It’s the first real dud I’ve tried in this set, but only because I’ve been so happy with the others! Honestly, this one’s just a bit ho-hum by comparison. The grape purple is a little dull and dusty, though it’s livened up nicely with some fine pink shimmer. The semi-sheer formula isn’t doing it any favors, either.
