Diesel Loverdose Tattoo EDP 50 mL

Haulage! Diesel — Loverdose Tattoo, & Perfume Notes (December 2017)

After the disappointment that was Oscar de la Renta Blue Orchid, I felt like I wanted a pick-me-up, and I usually like my birthday/Christmas money to go to perfume.

I was craving a rice pudding scent, and the fragrant folks over at the Fragrantica boards reminded me that Diesel Loverdose Tattoo EDP was a perfect choice for that scent. I had actually tested—and loved!—Loverdose Tattoo when it first came out, and somehow I had forgotten all about it. I think I may have been waiting in vain for it to show up on Shoppers Drug Mart’s clearance shelves. But after snagging both Loverdose and Loverdose Red Kiss 30 mL bottles for $19.99 a pop, I guess my luck has run out.

I had one of those big bonus Optimum Points offers (18,500 points for a $100 spend) loaded onto my Shoppers Optimum card, so I picked up Loverdose Tattoo EDP in the 50 mL bottle and added some grocery items (COFFEE) and small holiday gifts (CANDY) to reach $100. Not a bad deal at all, though I’m sad to report that the cosmetician didn’t give me any free beauty samples! It’s so random. Once I spent less than $5 on nail polish, and a different cosmetician gave me a nice skincare sample. This time I got a $67 perfume and nada. Should I be pushy and ask next time?

If I’d ordered via beautyBOUTIQUE online, I’d have gotten a free deluxe sample Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick and three additional free samples, plus had the opportunity to use Ebates. I’m not sure the Bonus Optimum points would have counted, though—it might have just been an in-store offer.

By the way, if you’re wondering, my favorite online grey market perfume reseller, FragranceX, also had Loverdose Tattoo. The 75 mL was the only size available, and it was priced the same as the 50 mL I got. I’m not fussed about the extra 25 mL, since it takes me forever to use up perfume. 50 mL is plenty for me. The only real advantages would have been no tax and the 10% discount I get with my loyalty points, though I would have had to add another small item to my order to get free shipping. I think the Optimum Points work out better, and, I get instant gratification buying it from the drugstore down the street.

Anyway, here’s the rundown on my latest perfume acquisition, and notes on several other perfumes I’ve tried in-store over the last week.

Oscar de la Renta Blue Orchid EDT (100 mL)

Oscar de la Renta — Blue Orchid EDT Review

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been spotting mysterious 100 mL bottles of Oscar de la Renta perfumes on the $19.99 shelf at various Shoppers Drug Mart locations. Googling does not help at all—especially couple of months ago—when just about nothing turned up on these scents.

I was beyond curious! The first ones I saw were Rose and Jasmine. The bottles made them look like flankers of the very wonderful Esprit d’Oscar, the brand’s younger, more modern version of their 1970s classic, Oscar.

But I did not bite.

Then, over the last week or so, I’ve been seeing more of these popping up! Midnight Amber! Blue Orchid! Tropicale! Online, there is brief chatter of Ruby Velvet and Orange Flower. Curiouser and curiouser.

And a little less curious today, because I just picked up a bottle of Blue Orchid. I hemmed and hawed between it and Tropicale, but decided to go with Blue Orchid because I didn’t think I needed more coconut/pineapple/suntan lotion-smelling perfumes. Blue Orchid sounds more mysterious, doesn’t it? And I’m always game for a blind-buy.

Shoppers Drug Mart Spend Your Points Plus Event 2017 Shoppers Optimum

Sale Alert: Spend Your Points PLUS Event at Shoppers Drug Mart (Canada Only, November 25–26, 2017)

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃  to all the American readers out there!

I’m an American living in Canada, so I’ll be whipping up a mostly-traditional Thankgiving dinner tonight, while prepping for the Shoppers event this weekend. Ha!

For all the Canadian readers: this Saturday and Sunday (November 25–26), Shoppers Drug Mart is offering a Spend Your Points PLUS Event.

The deal is pretty much the same as usual, but you get additional Optimum Points (rather than additional cash off a purchase).

Spend the following Optimum Points and receive (edited my mistake below!):

  • 50,000 points for $85 off, plus $15 $20 worth of Optimum Points
  • 95,000 points for $170 off, plus $30 $40 worth of Optimum Points

The bonus points get added to your account a week or so later.

This event works online at Shoppers’ beautyBOUTIQUE, as well. Don’t forget that ebates.ca (referral) works with beautyBOUTIQUE online!

Since Shoppers Optimum is merging with PC Plus in February 2018, I’ve been looking to redeem as many of my points as possible (the new program allows you to pick up points from other Loblaw-owned grocery stores, but the value of the new PC Optimum points will drop a little bit compared with Shoppers Optimum points).

In all honesty, the merger comes at an “opportune” time for me, personally, since most of the reason I rack up so many Optimum Points (besides using the app and coupons religiously) is that I purchased a lot of baby supplies there over the last four years. Now that we will be rarely purchasing diapers and baby food, I think my Shoppers spending will be going down fairly drastically.

So, earlier this month, I redeemed 95k points without waiting for an event, but I’m honestly a little surprised to see that an event is being run so soon after the merger announcement!

Here’s what I got:

  • Chanel Le Vernis Longwear in Rose Caché
  • Chanel Le Vernis Longwear in Rose Confidentiel
  • Chanel Le Vernis Longwear in Rose Energie
  • Chanel Le Vernis Longwear in Rose Prodigious
  • Dior Diorific Vernis in Emerald
  • Estée Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick in Ripped Raisin

I have more points so I will be redeeming them this weekend. A few more Chanel polishes are on my wishlist, but I’m not entirely sure yet what I will fill out my order with. I’m even running out of Christmas gifts to buy—look at me being so organized with my holiday shopping!

If you need more ideas, here are links to some of my other previous Shoppers Drug Mart/beautyBOUTIQUE hauls, mostly from redeeming Optimum Points:

For reference, here’s all the fine print from Shoppers:

Spend 50,000 points and get up to $85 OFF* PLUS get $20 worth of points back. That’s a $105 savings value! OR spend 95,000 points and get up to $170 OFF* PLUS get $40 worth of points back. That’s a $210 savings value!

Offer valid from Saturday, November 25, 2017 to Sunday, November 26, 2017.

*You may only redeem at the points level specified in this offer and in a single transaction. Taxes are payable on the full purchase price prior to the application of the discount reward. Offer is a reduction off your total pre-tax purchase price of products eligible for point redemption. Points are not redeemable for cash or credit. All other reward levels remain in effect during this promotion. Offer excludes prescription purchases, products with codeine, non-pointable items, tobacco products (where applicable), stamps, passport photos, lottery tickets, event tickets, transit tickets and passes, gift cards, prepaid phone cards, prepaid card products and Shoppers Home Health Care locations. Not to be used in conjunction with any other Shoppers Optimum Points® promotions or promotional card offers. Valid Shoppers Optimum Card® must be presented at time of purchase. Shoppers Optimum Points® have no cash value but are redeemable under the Shoppers Optimum program for discounts on purchases at Shoppers Drug Mart. The savings value of the points set out in this offer is calculated based on the Shoppers Optimum Program® rewards schedule in effect at time of this offer and is strictly for use of this limited time promotion. The savings value obtained by redeeming Shoppers Optimum Points will vary depending on the Shoppers Optimum Program reward schedule at time of redemption and other factors, details of which may be found at shoppersdrugmart.ca. The $20 worth of points back on 50,000 points level redeemed is equivalent to 16,000 Shoppers Optimum Points®. The $40 worth of points back on 95,000 points level redeemed is equivalent to 30,000 Shoppers Optimum Points®. Shoppers Optimum Points will be awarded by December 8, 2017. See cashier for details. ® 911979 Alberta Ltd.

News: Loblaw Merging Shoppers Optimum & PC Plus (Canada)

Well, it’s the end of an era. However, I can’t say we didn’t see this coming once Toronto-based Loblaw acquired Shoppers Drug Mart in 2013.

The Shoppers Optimum and PC Plus loyalty programs are now being merged into the PC Optimum program. The conversion will happen on February 1, 2018.

The points exchange does not appear to be consistent; when I use their points calculator, I get these wonky results:

Shoppers Optimum Points PC Optimum Points Exchange Rate
95,000 170,000 0.559
50,000 85,000 0.588
100 125 0.800
50 63 0.794
10 13 0.769
1 1 1

PC Plus points are converted to PC Optimum points at a 1:1 ratio (1 PC Plus point = 1 PC Optimum point).

Another change is that the new PC Optimum points may be redeemed in increments of 10,000 points. The Shoppers Optimum points had to be redeemed in amounts of 50,000 or 95,000. So, in the new system, you’ll be able to redeem faster (for presumably lower amounts than if you’d saved up more points, of course).

fivezero's beautyBOUTIQUE haulage, Shoppers Optimum Points redemption (September 2017) Chanel, Dior, Estée Lauder

Haulage × 2! beautyBOUTIQUE (July & September 2017)

This post covers two Optimum Points redemption orders I placed in July and September 2017.

I’ve been racking up the points via the Shoppers app, and redeemed 95k points for $170 worth of product (all prices in CA$) in both July and September during two PLUS Bonus Events. Here’s July’s order:

  • ARTDECO Art Couture Nail Lacquer in Silver Willow (978)
  • Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules (60 Capsules)
  • Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in 1N2 Ecru
  • Soap & Glory Flake Away Spa Body Polish

Free samples (I forgot to take pics of these):

  • Elie Saab Le Parfum EDT (sample)
  • Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Overnight Firming Mask (sample)
  • Vasanti Brighten Up! New Skin Amplifying Moisturizer (sample)

beautyBOUTIQUE actually made the first ever mistake I’ve ever had with them: they sent me the wrong shade of ARTDECO Nail Lacquer.

  • ARTDECO Art Couture Nail Lacquer in Rose Peony (953)

ARTDECO Nail Lacquer in Rose Peony 953

They only asked me to send a picture, which I did, and then they sent out Silver Willow right away. I got to keep Rose Peony, as well. I was really pleased with their excellent handling of an error. Plus, when they sent me the correct nail polish, they also included three free samples!

  • Lise Watier HydraForce Hydra-Protective Creme-Gel (sample)
  • PRADA Candy EDP (sample)
  • Sekkisei Clear Brightening Mask (sample)

My current beautyBOUTIQUE wishlist includes:

I was also very excited about the launch of Chanel’s newest fragrance, Gabrielle, but reviews make me think I will probably not care for it. Either way, I have yet to go sniff it in-store.
