OPI — OPI Red (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: OPI 1989 Original Launch

First of all, you’ll have to excuse my swatches today. I’ve been sick this weekend, I have a chip in one of my swatching nails, and my cuticles have been looking like hell now that winter is truly upon us! I’ll have to do better swatches of this shade at a later date.

Second of all, WE DID IT! Toronto FC are the MLS Cup Champions for the very first time, ever! Also, a few other records we broke:

  • 1st MLS team to complete a domestic treble (Supporter’s Shield, Canadian Championship, MLS Cup)
  • 1st and only Canadian team to win the MLS Cup
  • 1st and only Canadian team to win the Supporter’s Shield (most points in a season)
  • Broke LA Galaxy’s MLS regular season point record of 68 points by one point

Don’t forget to check out the victory parade if you happen to be in downtown Toronto, today!

Edit: Yes, we went to celebrate at Nathan Phillips Square this afternoon! It was freakin’ cold but worth it!

So, of course, my NOTD is the classic OPI Red, which I was saving for a Throwback Thursday, but here it is today!

OPI Red (NL L72), from OPI’s original launch, is actually one of the first OPI polishes I ever owned! Unfortunately, at the time in the mid 1990s, I decided I didn’t like the pinky red shade and swapped it off.

I saw it again recently and decided I probably should have it, albeit in the newer formulation.

It’s a slightly pink-toned medium red cream with “invisible” pink shimmer.

One Lovely Blog Award

The One Lovely Blog Award

This is straight-up embarrassing, but I was nominated for this award 1½ years ago, and I never got around to doing it! I have a minor backlog of these awards/tags, so I’m going to finish them up on Tag Tuesdays, starting today!

Becca-Anne Beauty first nominated me for this award; she hasn’t blogged for about a year now, but she still has some great makeup and beauty posts on her site!

Then, earlier this month, I was nominated for the same award by Meg Kem Magic, who’s a relatively new blogger (like, a month old!) so please go check out her lovely beauty blog!

Thanks so much to both Becca-Anne and Meg! 😁

The One Lovely Blogger Award stipulates that I need to share 7 facts about myself. Since I’m combining two nominations in one post, I’ll do 14 facts.

The One Lovely Blog Award

The rules for this award are as follows:

  • Thanking the person that nominated you and leaving a link to their blog
  • Posting about the award
  • Sharing seven facts about yourself
  • Nominating at most 15 people
  • Letting your nominees know that they’ve been nominated

7 14 Facts About Myself

I hope I haven’t repeated any of these from previous posts!

1

My favorite color was red, for the longest time. Several years ago, I somehow no longer felt like it was, and I do not currently have a favorite color. I can find most every color appealing—it just has to be used the right way!

2

Blue cheese is my favorite kind of cheese. Cashel Blue and Saint Agur are my favorites of the blues I’ve tried (I’ve gone through Auvergne, Bénédictin, Bresse, Cambozola, Gorgonzola, Maytag, Météorite, Roquefort, Stilton, and a few others). Both are so buttery and creamy, and not the most pungent blues you’ll find, so they’re great entry-level blues, too. I really should try some more, but these two are so yummy and readily available where I am that I tend not to stray!

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Rouge Noir, swatch

Classics: Chanel — Rouge Noir (Le Vernis Longwear) Swatch & Review

Collection: Chanel 2016 Spring, Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour [Launch]

First order of business: Toronto FC are in the MLS Cup Final! Last night, after ten years of existence, my hometown team finally won the Eastern Conference Championship—against rivals Montreal Impact, no less. Toronto FC will now play for the MLS Cup against Western Conference Champions Seattle Sounders FC. Coincidentally, I also spent part of my childhood in Seattle, but I’ll no doubt be supporting TFC in the final.

Second order of business is that today marks the 21-year anniversary of the first date my husband and I ever went on! That night, we saw a movie at the Uptown and had an after-movie coffee and dessert at a nearby Swiss Chalet. (We were poor students, what can I say? We also had dinner at the university cafeteria before heading out! Mmm romantic.) Both locations are now sadly defunct, but we’re still going strong!

We ordered in Swiss Chalet last night, for the first time in three or four years, to celebrate. Gotta love the Festive Special that comes with Lindor chocolates!

Finally, today’s nail polish! Today is indeed Throwback Thursday, though I’m filing it under Classics as well, since it’s the original color in a new formulation.

Annick Goutal at Le Bon Marche

Links: Recent Browsing History… (August 25, 2016)

I haven’t had the time nor the opportunity to do any swatching over the last month, so here’s a little write-up of what has been tickling my browser history, lately!

Our kitchen sink’s hot water connector burst in the middle of the night. NOT FUN. Oh, the joys of living in a condo. Sorry about that, downstairs neighbor. Going to replace all our other connectors, stat.

I didn’t realize I could turn my lonely Christmas cactus into a plethora of Christmas cacti! I have the opposite of a green thumb, so the fact that my cactus actually blooms means I need more of it.

OK, mine doesn’t look this nice.

Always thought goalkeepers had to be a bit crazy. Hope Solo given 6-month ban for being a sore loser. (‘Grats to the Canadian women on their Olympic Soccer Bronze!)

I need to revisit Annick Goutal! I have a full-sized bottle of Les Nuits d’Hadrien and a mini hotel bottle of Eau d’Hadrien, and that’s it for Mme. Goutal in my collection. Think I need something less lemon-y.

Nail Polish in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 (Hosted by Canada)

While I plan on boycotting the next two FIFA Men’s World Cups (2018 & 2022) due to the many, many controversies surrounding them (thanks for ruining soccer for my young son, FIFA), I have been watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year, which is hosted in Canada. Unfortunately, Toronto, where I live, isn’t one of the host cities due to conflict with the Pan-Am games. But the games have all been aired on various sports channels, so I’ve still been enjoying the matches.

The games have been great fun to watch so far. The group stages are just finishing up, and the knockout stages are coming! I think it’s often a breath of fresh air watching the women’s games: they really don’t seem to playact (feign injury, etc.) the way many of the men’s players seem to.

I’ve noticed that many of the amazing athletes participating in these games are sporting manicures, often in their national team colors. Here’s a small sampling! If you look closely, I think you can see a little Swiss flag on the Swiss player’s ring fingernail!
