Haulage! Drugstores & Cosmetic Love (Oct 2016 & Feb–Mar 2017)

Finally, everyone in the household is on the road to recovery! I managed to stay relatively illness-free, except for once when I think I might have given myself food poisoning and had an upset stomach for a night. We were all so overwhelmed over the last week and a half that my husband actually had to remind me that we forgot about our 17th wedding anniversary over the weekend.

I should really get my computer to remind me about stuff like this.

So, we celebrated last night with some dinner delivered and half a movie (The Nice Guys, if you’re interested—and that’s how we have to roll nowadays, early to bed). Plus, we’ll add a li’l anniversary money to our fun budgets!

Speaking of fun budgets, here’s some stuff I hauled over the last couple of months from drugstores. And I’m including some stuff I got from Cosmetic Love late last year, but totally forgot about under my desk.

All prices are what I paid, not necessarily the MSRP.

fivezero's IPSY Glam Bag "Much Love" February 2017

Ipsy — February 2017 Glam Bag “Much Love”

Everyone’s doing a little better today—no more fevers, just a little congestion—and Peanut made it back to school today, yay! I managed to use some of my Peanut-free time to write up my February Ipsy Glam Bag post. There are loads of goodies this month.

Seriously, Ipsy is totally killing it for me these days—and I got another nail polish!

When I saw that I was getting one of two shades of Trust Fund Beauty nail polish, I had my fingers crossed for $12 Latte, since I already have a mini of the other color, I Give Good Tweet. When I opened my Ipsy bag on Tuesday, out fell the deep, mauve-toned brown I had been hoping for. Awesome. (I’ve lucked out once before, when I received Urban Decay’s Lounge eyeshadow instead of Fireball, which I already had.)

I’ve also recently accumulated a lot of Ipsy points, mostly via referrals, so I have to give a huge thank you to those who used my referral link to join Ipsy! I was able to redeem some of the points for a couple of things last month, so I received those with my February Glam Bag.

Last time, I complained about how Ipsy’s point rewards always sold out too quickly, and that there weren’t enough of them. Lately, I’ve found it easier to jump onto the new rewards: they seem to upload refresh them on Friday nights (my time is EST). The point amounts required seem to have increased a little, but they’re also kind of inconsistent with regard to the dollar value of the rewards, too. I’ve seen an item retailing ~$6 cost ~400 pts, and an item retailing ~$40 cost ~800 pts. Who knows? Anyway, I don’t know if they really did anything or if I am just checking the rewards more often and lucking out, but it does feel like it’s been improved!

SoI love, love, love my Ipsy bag this month! Here’s what I got (four out of five are full-sized products!):

What I Redeemed 800 Ipsy Points For

  • Ren Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream (200 Ipsy Points for 30 mL deluxe sample; 50 mL full size US$45 / CA$56)
  • Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Crown of My Canopy (300 Ipsy Points for 5.4 g full size; US$4.99)
  • Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals (300 Ipsy Points for 5.4 g full size; US$4.99)

What I Received

  • Juice Beauty PHYTO-PIGMENTS Last Looks Cream Blush in Flush (3 g full size; US$24)
  • Naked Cosmetics HD Finishing Powder in Banana (0.35 oz full size; US$23.99)

Haulage! Nail Polish, Part I (Summer 2016)

Yes, indeedy, I have parts I and II for nail polish haulage in June and July 2016!

Basically, I can hardly resist a nail polish sale, so just about all of these were picked up on sale from places like Winners, Dollarama, Rexall, Shoppers Drug Mart, Amazon, and Wal-Mart.

Here’s the all damage (5 picture sets in all)…

First, several randoms from Winners, Amazon, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

  • Essie Nail Polish in Violet Auction
  • OPI Infinite Shine Nail Lacquer in Pretty Pink Perseveres (I ordered To Be Continued…, a pastel periwinkle, but a third-party seller on Amazon accidentally sent me this pale pink, instead)
  • OPI Nail Lacquer in Gelato On My Mind
  • China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Bite Me
  • L’Oréal Colour Riche Vernis à l’Huile in Grenat Irrévérent (went to three drugstores to find this product display! The bottle is awesome.)

Haulage, fivezero's nail polish, summer 2016, Essie, OPI, China Glaze, L'Oréal

Next, we have the funky, twisty new bottles of gel polish from Essie. I got the duo from Rexall and the remaining two at Amazon (Canada).

New Release: Wet n Wild — Lost in the Wild Flowers (Summer 2016)

Collection: Wet n Wild 2016 Summer, Lost in the Wild Flowers

Wet n Wild’s Summer 2016 limited edition collection is called Lost in the Wild Flowers, and it consists of new shades of MegaGlo Highlighting Powder, Color Icon Metallic Liquid Lipstick, MegaGlo All-In-One Highlighting Stick, and MegaLast Salon Nail Color!

I don’t believe I’ve tried their MegaLast line, so this might be a fun time for me to give it a whirl (along with their new 1 Step Wonder Gel line)!

The four bright (possibly neon?) shades are:

  • Poppy Culture (coral cream)
  • Cherry Blossom on Top (pink cream)
  • Leaf Me Be (lime cream)
  • Wild Wild Violet (purple cream)

Haulage! Makeup on the Cheap (Late 2015)

Late last year, I hauled a little more nail polish—and makeup— than I’d let on here. There’s no real rhyme or reason: I’m just sharing a bunch of cheapies that I picked up and haven’t yet shown to you guys!

ALMAY Lipstick, Lipgloss, Eyeshadow, Eyeliner, and Foundation! Honest to goodness, I cannot remember the last time I purchased any makeup from drugstore stalwart Almay (who, incidentally, are owned by Revlon). The brand just seems so boring, doesn’t it? I did have some Almay nail polishes way back in the 90s—they weren’t very good, but the shimmery nude shades they offered were gorgeous—and I may have tried a random product here and there, but I can’t recall any other specifics. The sole reason I hauled Almay late last year was because my local Shoppers Drug Mart was clearancing the brand! Like, crazy cheap (ahem, for Canada).

  • Clear Complexion Makeup (CA$4.25) in 300 Naked
  • Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm (CA$2.62) in 950 Truffle Kiss
  • Eyeliner Pencil (CA$2.62) in 205 Black
  • Intense i-Color All Day Wear Powder Shadows (CA$3.12) in:
    • 105 Everyday Neutrals (Brown Eyes)
    • 125 Party Brights (Brown Eyes)
    • 140 Party Brights (Green Eyes)
  • Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks (CA$2.62) in:
    • 10 Berry (Light) [not pictured]
    • 20 Pink (Light) [not pictured]
    • 30 Nude (Light)
    • 50 Berry (Light/Medium)
    • 60 Pink (Light/Medium)
    • 70 Nude (Light/Medium)
    • 80 Red (Light/Medium)
    • 90 Berry (Medium)
    • 100 Pink (Medium)
    • 110 Nude (Medium)
    • 120 Red (Medium)

I despise the awkward numbering/naming systems they use for the eyeshadow and lipstick. I think this lack of imagination really contributes to Almay’s staid reputation, in my mind—not that this seems to affect the product quality! I’ve been using the Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick in 80 Red (Light-Medium), and even though I’m not into the whole balmy lipstick thing, I think this is a really nice, dummy-proof red lipstick and I prefer it to the comparable Revlon and Maybelline products I’ve tried, which seem waxier to me. I feel like the Almay Butter Kiss Lipstick is just about up there with the Clinique Butter Shine Lipsticks. The Clear Complexion Makeup is also super nice—I think I might actually prefer it to my current favorite drugstore foundation, Revlon Nearly Naked in Nude! 300 Naked is a better skintone match for me, and it has a pump dispenser that the Revlon should really adopt. Ahh, thank goodness this product is still being carried by the Rexall near me. I probably won’t be able to pick it up again for $4 a bottle, though.Read More »

Wet n Wild Wet Shine Nail Color (2015) in Who is Ultra Violet?

Wet n Wild — Who is Ultra Violet? (Wild Shine Nail Color) Swatch & Review

Collection: Wet n Wild 2015 Spring, Wild Shine Nail Color Re-Launch

Early this year, drugstore stalwart Wet n Wild revamped their Wild Shine Nail Color line, which is apparently the first product they ever launched back in 1979!

I’ve liked the previous incarnation of the Wild Shine polishes, but haven’t actually bought any in a long time, since I didn’t have a Wet n Wild source nearby. I do now, and they recently ran a sale on the new polishes. These are a cool 99¢ in the US, but $1.99 in Canada; my shop sells them at $2.29! So when the polishes went on sale for $1.48, I decided I’d snap up a bunch of them.

The color selection isn’t perfect at my drugstore; there are 24 colors in all, but they only carry about 14 or 16. I’ve also seen these, individually packaged, at Dollarama for $1.50, but the color selection there is worse, maybe four shades. I guess the next time I trek out to a Wal-Mart, I’ll have to be sure to pick up the remaining ones that interest me. (Unfortunately, both Walmart.ca and Well.ca don’t sell this particular line of polish online.)

Who is Ultra Violet? (488B) is the first shade I’m reviewing from my little Wet n Wild Haul. It’s an orchid purple cream that actually goes on a little brighter on the nails than how it looks in the bottle.
