OPI Nail Lacquer in Don't Talk Bach To Me, swatch

OPI — Don’t Talk Bach to Me (Nail Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: OPI 2012 Fall, Germany

Don’t Talk Bach To Me (NL G17) is a color so difficult for me to wear that I would not have bought it, even at the discount price of $3, were it not Halloween this Saturday. But something about this holiday inspires me to try out some unusual shades, so here we go!

It’s equal parts straw yellow and pea green, with a grey undertone and fine, silvery shimmer. A dusty chartreuse. Sound appealing, yet?

I am actually quite a fan of chartreuse, with the caveat that it is pretty much a disgusting color on my skintone. Yellowish greens and yellowish browns in general just look like death on me. It can be a tremendous color, however:

Yves Rocher Botanical Colour Nail Polish in Metallic Gold / Or métallisé

Yves Rocher — Metallic Gold / Or métallisé (Botanical Colour Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Yves Rocher 2015 Summer, Botanical Colour Nail Polish [Launch]

So, I’ve been completely smitten by Yves Rocher’s new line of Botanical Colour Nail Polish and I’ve taken advantage of their many sales and ordered even more colors. I mean, they end up coming in at around CA$3 a pop. What’s not to love?

Today, I’m reviewing Metallic Gold / Or métallisé (92), a light-to-midtoned gold frost. The gold is strongly yellow-toned, with a delicious butterscotch flavor: just the right balance of orange and brown in it. It reminds me of a lighter and more wearable version of Creative Nail Design’s (back before they went all modern with “CND”) Flounce, and oldie that I’ll have to swatch one of these Throwback Thursdays.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Bekka

Throwback Thursday! Zoya — Bekka (Professional Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Zoya 2008 Summer, Chit-Chat

I’m just squeezing in the summery, citrusy shades before fall really kicks in!

Bekka (ZP446) is described by Zoya as a “bright, light yellow with lime green undertones and fine gold shimmer”.

Zoya covered the color description perfectly—Bekka reminds me of Mountain Dew.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Creamy

Throwback Thursday! Zoya — Creamy (Professional Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Zoya 2007 Summer, Candy

This week’s Throwback Thursday isn’t quite as old as some of the other polishes I’ve posted, but it’s going on a good eight years, and I’m thinking anything seven years and older is gonna qualify. Seven’s a magic number, dontchaknow.

Creamy (ZP405)—who names their kid Creamy, Zoya?!—is described by Zoya as a “bright yet soft banana-peel shade of yellow creme”. It definitely has that candy banana look, rather than real banana, going on.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Piaf

Zoya — Piaf (Professional Lacquer) Swatch & Review

Collection: Zoya 2013 Spring, Lovely

I’m not usually one for golds, but this Zoya called to me since I saw it more like a shimmery yellow in the bottle. Plus, it was on clearance at Winners for CA$2, so I really could not pass on it, you know?

Piaf (ZP652) is described by Zoya as a “fresh forsythia yellow metallic”. It’s a light, brightened gold with metallic shimmer, with a touch of “old” gold to it (i.e., a hint of olive). I particularly like that the shimmer isn’t all gold—there’s also a silvery shine to Piaf.

When I wore it, I felt like this:

However, it’s most likely named for French cabaret singer Édith Piaf.

Dollarama haulage, OPI & Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquer

Haulage! Dollarama (Canada) — OPI, Nicole by OPI, Sally Hansen, & Minions

My local Dollarama (Canadian dollar store chain) usually just has some Sally Hansen, Wet n Wild, snakeskin Essies and loads of odd brands like Mariposa.

But I lucked out this week and found some OPI and Nicole by OPI (they usually have the latter, but in really boring/unfortunate colors) that piqued my interest.

Minions, Despicable Me, excited applause

I guess browns and golds are not as popular, so they end up at the dollar store! The masses’ loss is my gain!

Yves Rocher Botanical Colour Nail Polish in Lemon / Citron

Yves Rocher — Lemon / Citron (Botanical Colour Nail Polish) Swatch & Review

Collection: Yves Rocher 2015 Summer, Botanical Colour Nail Polish [Launch]

So, I’ve been completely smitten by Yves Rocher’s new line of Botanical Colour Nail Polish and I’ve taken advantage of their many sales and ordered even more colors. I mean, they end up coming in at around CA$3 a pop. What’s not to love?

Today, I’m reviewing Lemon / Citron (51). It’s more of a marigold yellow to me than a lemon yellow, since it has a stronger orange tone. The finish is a cream, and it’s not whitened enough to qualify as a pastel. It’s just a nice, bright sunny yellow.

It has a stronger gold tone than Zoya Darcy, but otherwise they are similar.
